There were many nice things about the house, and with a few improvements it could become a property that guests would want to return to year after year. At this point it felt like we were intruding in someone’s space rather than being a welcomed guest. The biggest issue upon arrival was a strong cigarette smell throughout the house. Management worked to address it and explained that it was caused by a previous stay by the owners’ son, but first impressions matter and odor removal between stays would make a significant difference. Booking a non-smoking property is critical to our decision, since we have a child with asthma. A few maintenance and usability items could also improve the guest experience. Instructions for operating the dishwasher would be helpful. The dryer’s lint trap appears melted and does not fit properly, which resulted in several swimsuit straps becoming caught and broken. The bedroom light remote also controls both the dining room and bedroom lights, which was confusing.The kids’ bathroom would benefit from having a bathtub plug available so younger guests can actually take baths.It was also unexpected to have repairs performed by a neighbor rather than through the management company, and to have personal deliveries for the owner sent to the property during our stay.A few small additions and updates would go a long way, such as adding a pizza cutter to the kitchen and replacing some of the older pillows and mattresses. One pillow even had “Billy’s Pillow” written on it in pen, and the twin mattresses were thin enough that the children could feel the wooden slats underneath.Overall, while we enjoyed aspects of the property, the condition and amenities did not align with expectations for the price point. Addressing these items would likely improve guest satisfaction and encourage repeat bookings.
