About this property
End Unit;walk to lifts,or take free bus winter; Ski History Exhibit
Mt. Crested Butte 1st floor end unit that has Kitchenette, king bed( probably medium soft; definitely not firm),large shower and living room with new smart TV; sofa and work table can also be used for dining. There is a one bedroom 2nd floor unit you could also rent if u have a larger group. The 2 units have a common entry area but each unit has their own separate entry door. The kitchenette has microwave, fridge, coffee pot,( no coffee)hot plate with skillet and saucepan and small crockpot, dishes etc. There is a deck off of the bedroom that faces Mt Crested Butte as well as a patio in summer. In winter it is covered in snow. The outside spaces are great in Summer, Spring,Fall because of small covered deck and large wooden patio with canopy and flowers and trees. People tell me it is relaxing. The West Wall Quad Lift is a short walk up hill (ONLY Dec 20- March 5 and then snow starts to melt) or the free condo loop bus stops at our driveway every 1/2 hour, in winter. From April thru November ( or anytime) you can walk 15 minutes to base area. ( if u live at this altitude it is less than 10 minutes). There is parking for 1 car as this unit only sleeps 2. The unit has no safety features for toddlers. There are biking and hiking trails nearby. This unit is no smoking on the property and no pets due to owner's allergies and regular guest's allergies. The owners live in the house so u may see us outside and this is a caretaker unit. We do not allow atv's or dirt bikes or trailers on the property. This is a dead end street and quiet neighborhood with a lot of locals. Entire unit is decorated in museum quality free-style ski exhibits from the 70's. It would be rare to find a condo with an exhibit like this. Paul is on the editorial board of ISHA. (International Ski History Assoc) . There is a lot of ski art and ski exhibits so if you are a minimalist, this may not be for you. Maximum stay of 5 nights is best since it only has a kitchenette, but you could stay longer if you like to eat out. NOTE: we have a fan in bedroom in summer if it becomes hot. There is NO air conditioning. We have windows that open. NOTE: The 1st floor and 2nd floor units can be rented separately or together and each unit has a separate vrbo#. Please do NOT bring BIKES inside. You can leave bikes locked on your vehicle or park behind your unit. A special note: The unit is disinfected according to cdc guidelines after each guest- clean towels, sheets, blanket; EACH guest. General surfaces, are cleaned & dusted after each guest. The unit is 30 years old and the Saltillo tile is steam cleaned once per year and then vacuumed and mopped after each guest, but it is worn in some places, so be aware it is clean but dated and priced accordingly. Our guests seem to love the unit and its art, outdoor space and proximity to everything. You can walk to many hiking, biking trails and restaurants. If you have questions, please email ahead before you book. thanks STR 305568 For emergency contact/Local Representative contact information, go to the Town of Mt. Kathy was very welcoming. She was informative about the area, the shuttle bus schedule and our rental unit. All the amenities worked well. The ski history exhibits are one of a kind. They are fun, entertaining and displayed very professionally. It's really something special.
Terrific place! Just the right size and amenities for a weekend getaway. Well furnished, clean, and great vintage ski decor. Kathy and Paul were always quick to answer any of our questions and we will definitely be looking forward to returning again.
This is a charming unit with all the needed kitchen utensils and rich in ski lore and history. The Hooges were excellent and helpful hosts and provided valuable tips on wildflower viewing spots and cultural events. My wife and I loved our stay.
We had a very good experience at the rental.Kathy was very responsive and attentive. The unit was clean and had everything we need. Great location and price. Will come back
The property was perfect. The location was ideal as it was very close to the ski resort. The bed is incredibly comfortable, and the place had everything we needed for a quick weekend getaway. The hosts were very responsive and accommodating. We would definitely stay here again the next time we are in crested butte.
We had such a great time at Kathy’s place. The place is super cute and very close to the mountain and bus. Kathy was a great host and went above and beyond. We will be coming back!
Nice size living room and bedroom. Washer and dryer were great to have since we were on a long road trip. The host has added lots of small things like sandwich bags and sunscreen. Quiet place and conveniently located. Easy to get to town and to hiking trails.
What an awesome property and perfectly cozy spot to spend a few days in CB! So clean, so quiet, so easy to get around. Near stunning mountain trails and a very convenient shuttle to town. Such a unique place filled with a plethora of Vintage Ski memorabilia. The owners are super friendly and thoughtful! We can’t wait to return.

Paul graduated from Ohio State University with a PhD in art education and played varsity hockey from 1963-1966. Kathy graduated from Ohio State University with an education degree and business. She worked as an office manager at real estate offices for 17 years in Crested Butte and Flatiron Sports for 22 years. We bought this lot in 1993 and built this home with caretaker unit in 1994. As of 2025 we’ve been married 55 years❣️
Why they chose this property
You can walk to the lifts and it is decorated in ski history memorabilia. From June 15- Sept 15, we put up a canopy for shade on the patio/deck. One picture shows the deck with canopy and the rest of the year it is still wonderful, but due to snow, cannot have canopy. The price is reasonable because it is a caretaker unit and owners live in house; it is not fancy, and it is an older unit but our guests like it because it is clean and close to everything and has a great ski exhibit. If u want a fancy unit, this is not it as it is casual. Most guests use this unit for 2 nights but I have had guests stay for 6 if they like minimalist cooking since it only has kitchenette.
What makes this property unique
This is a reasonable unit because it is attached to our house but has its own entrance so you have privacy. You can walk to WestWall lift and Castle Road is on free condo loop bus system in winter and close to hiking and biking trails. Unit is just off of Rt 135 (Gothic Rd) so it is easy to find. The unit is Decorated in 1960's and 1970's freestyle skis and posters and is a museum quality exhibit that you will not find anywhere else in a rental. This is a ski history treat! The privacy of the yard and 2 deck areas are wonderful in the spring/ summer/ fall. We use CDC guidelines for cleaning and follow VRBO cleaning practices.
