Beautiful oceanside Castle with private beach and seasonal swimming pool
The Castle at Garrison Field, was built as a Cotswolds, England style country manor house. The residence and elegant grounds presents a private oceanfront country estate fronting Spring Cove and the Atlantic Ocean. This magnificent 6 bedroom seaside estate is fabulous for families to gather and enjoy private time with their families or friends. The multiple gardens continue the English country motif, with low stone walls to portion the 14-acre property and define the formal pool area. The estate features an oceanfront conservatory, pool (open June until mid Sept ) and a private beach. There’s something for everyone to enjoy, while staying at The Castle. You’re 8 minutes away from Portland’s Old port and all the incredible restaurants and bars. The Castle at Garrison Field also offers lobster bakes (ask about pricing). Come stay with us and let us make your dream vacation come true. ****The owner lives nextdoor and is available if anyone needs help or has any questions during their stay. Beautiful property. Breathtaking ocean views. Nice artwork and decor. Pool and outdoor area were great hang out spots. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked. Property Manager and owner were very helpful with any needs. I would definitely stay here again! I highly recommend this property!
Great family vacation! My wife and I took our daughter, son, daughter in law, and first grandson on this wonderful castle inspired vacation. Jeff and Shannon were most hospitable. Enjoyed family time by the fire pit down at the ocean. Definitely recommend!
Our three generation family of 11, ranging in age from 6 to 74, really enjoyed our week's stay at the "Castle" which was built in 1928 and has been very well maintained. The interior is beautiful, well appointed and more than met all of our needs. It has a great history and "exploring" the house is enjoyable. The grounds are well maintained and very private. And, the view of the ocean is present from multiple rooms in the house. Shannon, the host, and Geoff, the owner could not have been nicer and handled any questions we had quickly. We have used numerous VRBO homes and this property is easily one of the very best. All eleven of us truly enjoyed our stay.
It was a wonderful home for a birthday celebration with friends that wanted to experience Maine. The grounds were expansive with lovely water views. The host were very responsive.
We stayed at this property 4 nights. The home is in a beautiful location with stunning ocean views & historic charm but there are a number of maintenance upkeep issues that don’t align with the premium pricing. The house has character & good bones, but there has been significant deferred maintenance. The entry grounds were unkempt w/downed branches & leaves, significant overgrowth of the drive that brushes against the car & a non-functioning entry gate held together w/bungee cords. Inside the home, we expected some quirks from an older property, but basic functionality should be a given. Missing light bulbs, remotes & thermostats with dead batteries, improperly hemmed/falling drapery, & stained rugs detracted from the experience. There were many spider webs, dirty dishes in the cabinets, & a cloudy pool that made us hesitant to use it. Window screens were torn, unusable, or missing entirely. In fairness, we chose not to report these issues during our stay because we deeply value our privacy & did not want to spend our vacation coordinating w/the host. However, we did share our observations after checkout. Unfortunately, the host responded defensively, noting we should have spoken up sooner. We understand no older home is perfect but at this price point, guests should reasonably expect a higher standard of care & attention to detail. We hope this review helps future guests set realistic expectations & encourages the host to make needed improvements.
This is an absolutely stunning property. We were welcomed with warmth and amazing hospitality from Shannon and Jeff. I can’t possibly say enough about how wonderful this experience was. One for the books.
This house was perfect for me, my married kids, their spouses, and my grandkids. The house was very clean and spacious. It rained the whole time, but we still had a great time. And Shannon, who manages the property, was very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. Hope to return next year.
Wonderful other worldly visit back in time, generous spaces and loads of rooms for a family group.
Thank you for the flowers and getting the pool open.
We loved it all.
Thanks.
The gardens looked spectacular.
This is an exceptional home that is historical, gorgeous and comfortable as well. A perfect location and layout for our family of 12 adults. We travel all over the world and these were by far the most responsive hosts we've had in any setting. Shannon was super responsive since we booked a year earlier, and during our stay constantly in touch to confirm all is well. Minor things were addressed within minutes. Along with Jeff, the property owner, and Chelsea they hosted a lovely outdoor lobster bake on a gorgeous evening. We felt truly at home and would absolutely return. A very special place that is unique and impossible not to appreciate. Thank you, Jeff, Shannon and Chelsea,!
My family and I had a wonderful week staying at this beautiful castle in Cape Elizabeth. Our kids are 10, 9, 6, and 2, and they enjoyed swimming in the pool, looking for sea glass on the beach, playing new board games, and exploring everything else that the property has to offer. There were also many fun activities for kids in Cape Elizabeth, just minutes away from the property.
The owners were very helpful and responsive to all of our needs. This place exceeded our expectations, and we would happily stay there again!
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Garrison Field Estate in Cape Elizabeth with a group of 12 women for a celebratory weekend, and it was nothing short of amazing. The estate itself is absolutely stunning, with beautiful views and well-maintained grounds that made for a picturesque setting.
The team running the house were brilliant and thoughtful, attending to our every need with a level of care and professionalism that truly made our stay exceptional. Their attention to detail and willingness to go above and beyond ensured that we had a memorable experience.
One highlight of our trip was the lobster bake. If you're staying here, I highly recommend adding this to your itinerary. It was a delicious and quintessentially Maine experience that everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed.
This is an amazing property! We gathered our family to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary and truly felt like royalty. The home is very spacious with many places to relax. The kids particularly enjoyed the pool and private beach area (great for looking for shells and sea glass). The adults appreciated the well-equipped kitchen and butler's pantry as well as the many artworks all over the house. We all enjoyed the ocean views, dining on the terrace and movie nights with the large screen in the Great Room. The house is well located to explore area lighthouses, lobster shacks and the Casco Bay area, with easy access to the Portland airport. The host was attentive and easily reached by text. Staying here made for a truly memorable vacation.
We consider ourselves very fortunate to have celebrated our daughter's wedding with friends and family at Garrison Field. Everything about this property is amazing. I could point everything out that was exceptional, but it would take too long!
Both Jeff and Shannon were wonderful to deal with. The lobster bake was outstanding. We eat a lot of lobster in the summer, and this was the best that we ever had. Shannon was very attentive to our guests and made everyone feel welcome and provided impeccable service.
I highly recommend this property for family gatherings. My son has an infant and a toddler and he and his wife were able to have a room that was secluded from the others. They couldn't hear us and we couldn't hear them!
Our guests were awe struck by the beauty of the home, grounds and ocean. Thank you Jeff and Shannon for making our celebration AMAZING!
A truly outstanding family vacation home. We had high expectations based on the photographs, description and reviews of this home. These expectations were actually exceeded because of the home, the property, and the manager and owner of the home. First of all, Shannon and Jeff went way beyond our expectations in terms of hospitality, responsiveness and making sure we were happy. As expected, the house was simply magnificent. The exterior and appearance was unique. and the inside spaces were spacious, clean, and actually lots of fun. For a family of cooks, the kitchens and Butler’s pantry were outstanding. The property was just terrific. The real surprise was the pool and surrounding landscaping, much larger than the pictures. The back lawn rolling out to the water was spectacular. 3 recommendations: eat at The Lobster Shack at Two Lights- 3 miles away. Eat at Luke’s in Portland. Go to Portland Lighthouse for 2 hours of walking, scenery and fun. On the last night, we lit the fire pit for marshmallows. Thanks Shannon and Jeff for a great experience.
Lovely, private and quiet; very large scale property/house. Loads of room to get some quiet time and to explore. Family loved it very much. There during a heat wave in Maine. A/c only in the bedrooms upstains (some rooms chill better than others; some wouldn't go below 71); no a/c in bedrooms downstairs, so it was quite warm at night there. While the house is on the ocean and often has a nice breeze, the house can get a bit warm during the day and stone facade retains the heat. Many of the windows do not open, but for those that do, some have screens and some don't - so a bit buggy when we needed the cross ventilation. Owner lives on property in a detached garage. Property manager was very lovely and accommodating. Owner too was very nice and gave some good suggestions for local farm provisions (e.g., lobster and local veggies!) Pool was amazing. We sat out in the patio by the pool most of the time - but note that the kitchen is at the opposite end of the house - so long way to carry food and drinks. We cooked a lot, so kitchen was important to us, but we there were no exhaust fans there and layout of butler pantry and main kitchen was wonky and tight if you had more than 3 or4 people in the kitchen. Also, missing some basic cleaning supplies for daily wipe down (no windex or counter cleaners/kitchen cleaning cloths, etc.) Water pressure was amazing.
We loved the home and site. Unfortunately, we had too many family and extended family attend. We had not invited children. We found broken glass in the dining room and weed container in the large urn in the living room. The commode in the small bathroom would not flush. It is a beautiful site with real turkeys in the am. I am sorry for our transgressions. I do not want our violation of policies to affect future renters.
Our stay at this beautiful home in Cape Elizabeth surpassed all of our expectations. Shannon was such a pleasure to work with and was extremely accommodating. We have been staying in Cape
Elizabeth for Almost 20 Years and have never found another property this outstanding. The decor, views and comfort were exceptional! We highly recommend staying at this fabulous house!
Our time in Cape Elizabeth / Portland couldn’t have been more enjoyable! Shannon, the property manager, was beyond helpful and the property itself was stunning!
