Immaculate apartment with everything you could possibly need! Close to Acadia - walking to Jordan Pond and driving to all other parts of Acadia. Excellent gift and coffee/ice cream/gelato/fresh muffins and bike rentals a few doors away. The beach access is right out the back door and towels and chairs were provided. Quite honestly- we had everything and more!!!

Great place to stay when visiting Acadia

This was a great place to stay for a few nights while visiting Acadia. The apartment was clean, as-described, and well stocked. Check-in and check-out directions were very clear. We were very happy with our stay. Would recommend!

Delightful apartment

This was the best vacation rental we've had in Maine (we've tried many). The location was perfect -- walk to the beach, rent the bikes next door, many amazing hikes walking distance or within a 5 minute drive, and perfectly quiet at night. Everything in the apartment was clean, beautiful, nicely remodeled and comfortable. The deck in the back was lovely and shady without mosquitos (unless it was late at night). we've rented houses with lovely yard before that we couldn't use at all because mosquitos were out of control. we can't wait to return!

Excellent starting ingredients for a wonderful vacation!

This is our third time staying at the Nest. It is a wonderfully clean and comfortable base camp for our adventures around Acadia and Mount Desert Island. We certainly hope to come again soon!

The Best

This was probably the nicest vacation rental we have ever visited anywhere. Comfortable, tastefully and thoughtfully outfitted and decorated. Great feng shui. Location is perfect. Lots of great walking nearby, as well as an entrance to Acadia. Peaceful.

Lovely stay

Great place to stay - cozy, comfortable, warm....and everything you need. We loved that it had two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Used the kitchen, quite a bit - but also went to restaurants in NorthEast Harbor, Bar Harbor, and one just a few steps away. Location is excellent - quiet - and away from busy Bar Harbor, yet close enough. of course, close to Acadia NP, but also to the west side of the island. Communications with the hosts were easy and efficient. Would most definitely stay here again!

Wonderful stay in Seal Harbor

We loved our stay at The Nest - the house was so clean, beds were incredibly comfortable, kitchen was perfectly appointed, location - incredible. Our host Karen was thoughtful and very easy to communicate with. We are a family of five (two adults and three teenagers/preteens) and we fit very comfortably. We'd absolutely stay here again on our next trip to MDI - this was our favorite home we've stayed in near Acadia. Thank you for everything!!!

Exquisite modern apartment

Each year I bring horses to the nearby stables in Acadia. This was the most updated lodging I have visited. All new kitchen, bathrooms and laundry. Lovely coordinated decor. Great proximity to park. Restaurant next door serves all 3 meals for those of us who can’t be bothered to cook. Excellent experience!

My 2 sons and I stayed at The Nest for 3 nights while visiting Acadia National Park. This home exceeded our expectations! Beautifully decorated. Comfortable. Everything we needed. Great location. Plenty of room for 3 adults - my sons stayed in the twin room and I enjoyed the master. It was perfect.

Fantastic Apartment!

This was the perfect vacation home for our family of four! It is a delightful second floor apartment on the edge of Acadia National Park. We biked into the Park and had short drives to Northeast Harbor, Bar Harbor, all the Park hiking trailheads and everything else Mount Desert Island has to offer. The apartment was spotless and felt just like home. We had great weather but would have been very happy hanging out in the apartment if it had turned out to be rainy. We loved it!

Comfort and casual elegance

The Nest was the perfect get-away retreat for our family of four (kids ages 17 and 18.) The space is gorgeous - beds, linens, appliances, furnishings, etc are all high quality, impeccably clean and so comfortable. It has all the comforts of home - throw blankets, spices, good books, and games - and all on the doorstep to Acadia in beautiful Seal Harbor. Access to the carriage roads is an easy 10 minute walk/5 minute bike ride away, and you can see the Seal Harbor beach off the back porch area. While parts of the Park Loop Road are restricted in the winter, we still were able to hike, bike and enjoy so much of Acadia with no crowds (my husband and I biked an hour + on the carriage roads and never saw another person...!) We also really loved the large framed maps of Acadia and MDI in the apartment to help us plan routes. Karen was very friendly and helpful, and we felt welcomed into the space. As you can tell, The Nest was one of our favorite places we've stayed, and we are so grateful for the quiet, safe change of scenery for our family after a long year.

Ideal location for visit to Acadia National Park!

We had a wonderful visit to Acadia National Park and we absolutely loved staying at the The Nest! We had some challenges with check-in, but once we were settled in, everything was awesome - the warm decor and stylish comfort of The Nest plus Karen’s hospitality more than made up for any initial difficulties. We traveled from Northern California to Maine for a week, together with three young children, and it was one of the best VRBOs we’ve ever rented. Seal Harbor is a very quiet little town, but it’s close to Northeast Harbor and a short drive to Bar Harbor. We loved walking nearby at Little Long Pond, riding our bikes to the Carriage Roads near Jordan Pond, and exploring all the trails and beauty of Acadia National Park less than 10 minutes away! The Nest was in a perfect location, and for the most part we avoided all the crowds of Bar Harbor. A few tips from our trip: - The new Acadia Outdoor Center is just down the street, with new bikes for rent plus ice cream, espresso, and lots more - Cafe 123 in Northeast Harbor is awesome for breakfast or lunch - Naturalist’s Notebook is a wonderful little shop two doors down that our kids loved exploring - Rusticator is a lovely furnishings shop downstairs, run by Karen’s daughter and son-in-law

Lovely well appointed apartment, close to everything by car i.e. Bar Harbor and Acadia. You can walk to the beach. It is above a design showroom with very friendly employees. Be prepared to walk some stairs to get to the apartment and a bit of patchy cell service. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would return if we were in the area again!

Idyllic Stay

We absolutely loved our stay at the Nest. Nicely designed space, aesthetically pleasing, and so comfortable. The location was convenient for excursions to beach and Acadia hikes, and fun to hang out at the Nest on our one rainy day.Really appreciated the host, Karen’s, flexibility with our booking. Overall, we were sad to leave at the end of the week, yet we made some of our happiest family memories and so thankful for the opportunity to stay here. Highly recommend.

About the host

Hosted by Karen Pierce

Host profile image
Karen and Matt Pierce are long term summer residents of the town of Mt. Desert. Matt's ancestral family has enjoyed Acadia since the 1870s and were instrumental in founding Acadia National Park.
Our son and daughter-in-law co-own the building with us and run the Rusticator, a beautiful home design studio and decor shop on the first floor. We are in charge of the Nest. We are avid boaters and love to explore the wilderness. But we also love to read, play games and do puzzles when the weather isn't so great.
We've set up the Nest so that our guests can have great access to the waterfront and the park, while enjoying a hot coffee and doing a crossword puzzle on the morning deck if they prefer.

Why they chose this property

The Nest is new, convenient and perfect for active recreation or quiet reflection. You can walk to the next-door restaurant or library, carry your kayak to the beach, bike the carriage roads of Acadia National Park or hike its mountains. Enjoy your coffee on the morning deck overlooking Main Street or sun bathe on the back deck in the afternoon.
Grill your dinner and enjoy the sunset while listening to the ocean waves. Walk on the village green and sit on the bluff overlooking Seal Harbor. Get on a ferry and visit the Cranberry Islands, drive to Bar Harbor to shop, or work on our commercial speed internet while your loved ones have popovers at Jordan Pond house. All these opportunities are 10 minutes or less from the Nest.
Or sleep in on our comfortable queen-size bed in our enhanced sound-proofed rooms.
You'll love every minute!

What makes this property unique

The Nest is a unique property on Mt Desert Island. First, it is newly renovated and exquisitely designed for easy living. Built in 1880, the building was moved in 1910 to its current location. In 2019 and 2020, we completely restored the building from the studs out, so while the property retains the charm of the 1880s, it has every modern convenience, including a full kitchen, washer and dryer, commercial speed internet, heating and air conditioning with an en-suite master bedroom and lovely second bedroom with a private deck.
In the past, the building at 10 Main St has been a marketplace, a social club and a vacation residence. Today, the Rusticator store on the first floor is a beautiful and eclectic design studio and the Nest is a stand-alone apartment. We've plenty of maps, books, games and TV so that you can plan your events while staying at the Nest.
we hope that you enjoy our jewel of an apartment,.
