Spectacular Oceanfront Estate with Beautiful Sunsets on 8 acres
The “Big House” is part of an incredible 8-acre private estate with a shared private beach, walking trails, cliff views, a shared deep water dock, and even a freshwater swimming pond. The Big House is a 3,000 sqft fully winterized year-round home built in 1947 by my grandfather. The house features a large living room with an attached porch and an incredible waterfront view. There is a modern kitchen with a breakfast nook, a large dining room, five bedrooms (4 queens, two long singles), two full baths, and one half bath. A section of our deck is screened to escape mosquitoes and provide some shade.
You are only a short walk through open fields to a shared private ocean beach, which is perfect for launching your kayak. From there, you can continue on to a shared private dock that is great for swimming. Our dock is located in the local harbor at Lookout Point and faces west, offering fantastic sunsets and expansive views of the islands. This is an active lobstering harbor, so you can purchase fresh lobsters right next door!
The Big House is on an incredible 8-acre private family estate perched above a lush field and surrounded by 1,500 feet of ocean frontage. You can share this calm, quiet estate with a family-owned cottage and a small year-round home. We face west, so the sunsets are fantastic year-round.
So come swim off our dock, launch your kayak, swim off the rocks, read a book, have a lobster, take walks, or simply relax and enjoy! We look forward to your visit and hope to meet you during your stay.

One of the best rentals we’ve experienced. We loved the house and property. The hosts have clear instructions and labels for everything which make it easy to use.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the big house. We had everything we needed, well stocked kitchen, charming space to spread out, kayaks, swimming dock, playset and beach area suitable for our grand daughters, and beautiful spot to enjoy the water and sunsets.
We stayed at the big house with an extended family group and had a great week. This house has plenty of room for everyone to spread out and relax. The kitchen is big and bright and very well stocked.
This is a beautifully decorated and comfortable house with plenty of space for a family gathering. The kitchen is very well-equipped. We would love to stay again!
Our extended family gathered for a couple of days, staying in the Big House and the Bungalow. Both were very comfortable and well-suited to our gathering. The owners were very accessible. I highly recommend staying here!
Bates Graduation Celebration with Guests of All Ages
Absolutely fantastic stay at magnificent house despite cold and rainy weather. The house offered a great location for all ages of family and friends that attended. The views are even more beautiful than what we saw online. The kitchen was very functional for preparing extensive celebration meals. Great secluded oceanfront location - highly recommended!
Susan and Ned's property in Harpswell is incredible, from outside to inside. Our two families of four (4 adults, 4 kids) had plenty of space and were very comfortable. The Big House has everything you need and is spacious, functional, and pleasant. The cliffs, field, and shared dock are magical for spending lots of time outside. We have stayed in three properties in Harpswell and other properties further north in Maine on the coast, and the Big House was the best by a long shot. We loved it and hope to return next year!
We stayed in The Big House, as well as the Bungalow, and the Cottage for the small family wedding of our daughter and son-in-law. This house was so comfortable. The Woodmans clearly put love and care into this property.
We were in Harpswell for our son’s wedding and the big house was the perfect place for my husband and I along with our other adult children. We were able to spend some quality time together and the location couldn’t have been better. It was only a few miles away from the wedding venue and a short walk from beautiful lookout point.
This was our third time staying at the big house and once again it fit our needs perfectly. The garden in front is beautiful and the house is so clean. Susan is an excellent communicator, who makes us feel welcome and comfortable. We love coming back year after year!
We had a wonderful time staying at the Big House! The house is well appointed and comfortable for the whole family. We had postcard perfect weather and enjoyed walking the property, the dock and even a polar plunge. Hopefully we will be able to return in the future! Cell service can be spotty - download the code and other necessary info from the app before arrival!
This place was perfect for our group of friends celebrating a (significant) birthday. We loved the house--spent mornings in the kitchen, which was beautifully designed and had every amenity you could possibly need. Evenings were spent in the living room, around the wood stove. The bedrooms were large, with very comfortable beds. We loved the property and the beautiful views of the water. All in all, we had a great visit and loved this gorgeous and comfortable spot.
My family and I rent homes often for 1 week each summer. This house was far and above the nicest. We thoroughly enjoyed the deck, screened in porch and beautiful grounds. There were beautiful places to take small hikes and great places to have lobster or other seafood. We enjoyed Dolphins and the Schoolhouse restaurant. When cooking at home everything was so delightfully organized . . Susan and Ned were so readily available with any questions.
This is a beautiful house on a huge property looking southeast over Casco Bay. Me and a bunch of friends stayed here for New Year's and had a wonderful time. Lots of nice touches: the kitchen is stocked with every utensil and appliance you could need, there's hundreds of cool books on the shelves in every room, a working wood stove in the living room with tons and tons of wood. The only disappointment was that the hot tub wasn't available during winter. Would definitely recommend this place to friend groups or families looking for an easy stay in a beautiful place.
The property was everything I hoped for and more! House was clean, organized, plenty of room for all of us, and so historic. Every detail was fascinating! The grounds were wonderful, with access to the water, kayaks, wonderful little trails, and many places to explore. It was an excellent location as well—close to hiking, rocky beaches, quaint villages, and local lobster. For the history lovers in my family, Brunswick and Bath had much to offer. For those of us who loved music and art, Bowdoin was tremendous! This property was outstanding and we look forward to coming back again!
We loved everything about this property! The lay out of the house was perfect for our purposes with lots of room for the children to play and space for the adults as well. The kitchen was great to cook in and had everything you need. Even sharp knives! Outside on the deck had stunning views of the water. We spent time at night in the screened porch. One night we took the children to the beach and made a fire while the sun set. The dock we used to swim, have lunch and enjoy the beautiful costal waters. Perfect Maine house and forever memories!

EVERYTHING was just perfect. The Big House was everything we pictured Maine to be and more. It’s just beautiful inside and out. The special touches throughout the house were so meaningful due to the family history explained by the owners. It’s wasn’t just a vacation home to us - it was so much more!! The home is cozy, comfortable, spotless , and equipped with EVERYTHING!!! The views are breathtaking!!! PLEASE do not hesitate to book this home. The hosts are super sweet and kept us well informed. There is so much to do at the house and in the area. We are already talking about going back. Thank you for sharing this lovely home with us and it was very nice to meet you!!!
We spent a weekend at the big house in mid-November celebrating a milestone family birthday. We live not too far away so are familiar with the area...but even so were blown away by this property. The photos don't quite do it justice, if you can believe it- the house itself is so beautiful and well-cared for. It's obvious that people have thought lovingly about each room. The great room is a perfect gathering place with a cozy wood stove, the kitchen has everything in it you'd ever want to actually cook (no cheap, flimsy knives here!), and the mattresses and bedding in each of the bedrooms were to die for. We loved the way the house was set back from the water, with the lawn rolling down to the shore and its little trails along the hill. We had the best weekend and are so grateful to have been able to spend time in that beautiful spot. Can't wait to come back :). This is a perfect house to spend time in in any season- summer would be amazing, but so would a snowstorm!
It was absolutely perfect!
The house is simply charming and so well stocked! We were lacking for nothing. The setting is just beyond words.... very special and just has a magical - mystical feeling about it. Sadly we were there less than 48 hours for a family memorial service.
It's not often that my mom had all 4 of her children together, as one of my brothers lives in Alaska now. We grew up sailing the Maine coast, and there was something about this house that was just so perfect for us, for this weekend.
We met both the owners and they couldn't have been nicer, telling us the history of the property, showing us the art studio and just making us feel so welcome.
We would love to come back and stay longer! It's an easy 15 minute drive into Brunswick if you are looking for a bit more action, but you could easily just settle in on the point and happily enjoy the peace and beauty surrounding you.

About the host
Hosted by Susan and Ned Woodman
Susan and Ned took over the management of the Big House a few years ago. We enjoy sprucing it up and making it available for you. Susan has a background in children’s text book publishing. Ned is a “jack of all trades” type and has worked as a high-tech manager and carpenter.
Why they chose this property
My grandfather bought this property, built the Big House, and retired here in 1947. After living all over the Northeast, he landed here and never left the state of Maine again. Once you visit, you’ll understand why. We all thank my grandfather, as four generations have enjoyed being here.
What makes this property unique
This is a truly unique property. Despite having three houses, you'll have more privacy, peace, and quiet than you might imagine. The views, sunsets, and walking paths are spectacular. Every season here is a pleasure.
