About the host
Hosted by Don & Emma
We love this area! Our dear friend, Maury invited us to share his family's cabin. After searching, we found this special place. For years, we came up to restore and upgrade. Now we build great memories on the lake with visiting family and friends. We enjoy hosting groups who need a relaxing, fun get-away. Walk out the front door and turn left. Follow the gravel road down the hill, to the lake. This country road takes you to the marina. We are not far away, so please let us know if you need anything to improve your stay!
Why they chose this property
Maury said, "You want to be on the lake!" We are so glad to have found this gem. It has been a peaceful haven for writing projects and relaxing vacations. The brilliant lake views calm the mind and inspire the soul. We love hiking and biking around the lake as much as sailing, swimming and canoeing across the lake. The natural breezes and ceiling fans keep every room well-ventilated. Four hot water heaters cover everyone's shower and laundry needs. With two dishwashers, one on the grill level and one in the kitchen, clean-up goes smoothly. If you have any issues during your stay, we are just down the road, please call right away. By the way, the Vrbo commission fee is included in the base rate. However, on top of the base rate, Vrbo will add: 2.9% Colorado General Sales and Use Tax, 2% La Plata County General Sales and Use Tax, 1.9% La Plata County Accommodations Tax, approximately 3% payment processing fee, and a Vrbo traveler service fee. So far, all of our guests say their time here is priceless. We hope you enjoy your vacation! FarAndWide.com named Vallecito/Bayfield as #11 in their 35 Best Small Lake Towns in the U.S. By Alexa Erickson and Craig Donofrio, updated on June 25, 2021 "The Experience: Bayfield, Colorado Vallecito Lake-Another Colorado lake town, Bayfield features a small historic district with a few shops and restaurants in town, but it’s the town’s Vallecito Lake that’s the star. Vallecito is one of the highest mountain lakes of its size anywhere, residing at 8,000 feet above sea level. The lake is full of rainbow trout, brown trout and northern pike, making it a big draw for fishing. Also, be sure to check out the Tour of Carvings — 14 carvings standing around 18-feet tall created after the Missionary Ridge Fire of 2002 burned 70,000 acres. What makes this property unique
We are a couple miles from the Weminuche Woodfire Grill with scrumptuous food, live music and special events. Even closer is the General Store with deli and liquor store. Across the street from the Grill is a Country Market with Mexican Restaurant and liquor store. From our big east-facing windows, you see a magical, moon river dance across the lake. From upstairs, look for a little, round, bright green tree on an island, across the lake. This helps you to single it out, from a boat, making the further shore more approachable. The marina rents a variety of boats, with life vests and fishing tackle. They sell fishing licenses. To park at the marina or along the lake (excluding the road just below us) you buy a $5 day pass at the marina or self-pay at the brown, Forestry Service boxes below the dam, and around the lake. Just hang it in your car windshield for the day. Restaurant and market parking is free while you dine or shop. If anyone in your group is slow to acclimate to the 8,000 ft (2438 m) elevation, we have a small oxygen bar, to aid recovery and give a natural energy boost. Please give us a call, if you need anything!
