About this property
Blue Heron Cottage Cute Lake Front + Kayaks + Stars + Boat Launch & Slip
Cozy cottage on 5 rolling acres with expansive lake and sunset views, and two kayaks. Enjoy the still morning with a paddle, or coffee on the porch. Rent a boat on-site, perfect for water sports and fishing. Relax on the day bed with a book, or visit a local distillery, winery, or cidery. Or just enjoy the privacy of your own waterfront lounge space and listen to the water lap on the shore. Take in historical sights, walk the Lake Anna Boardwalk and dine lakeside. 45 min to Fredericksburg, 55 to UVA.
The space:
Open floor plan, two bedrooms, bonus daybed w/ trundle, and ceiling fans in every room for that tropical feel.
Comfortable queen beds. The kitchen is well-equipped for cooking in or try one of our local restaurants.
Lake Anna is the second largest lake in the state of Virginia, measuring 17 miles long with 200 miles of shoreline.
Plenty to do in the area, such as:
***The Boardwalk on Lake Anna
The prime location for retail shops, dining, and waterfront fun. Enjoy some rest and relaxation and great fun with family and friends in a tranquil setting against the breathtaking views of Lake Anna. 500′ of waterfront boardwalk; shops include a convenience store, water sports supplies, and more; sports bar & grill/ family dining. Play a round of mini-golf at The Boardwalk on Lake Anna, home to local favorite, Tim’s at Lake Anna. Tim’s is a restaurant and crab house in one, with a laidback, resort feel. Indoor and outdoor waterfront seating.
***Goochland Drive-in
Step back in time at a drive-in movie theatre.
***Lake Anna State Park
The crown jewel of Lake Anna’s local activities is Lake Anna State Park. The park spans 2,810 acres with more than 10 miles of lake frontage.
***Dickson’s Store
Dickinson’s Store has always been a local draw, remodeled to give the old country store a few modern amenities. Deli counter and home to the stone Beer Cave, housing a wide variety of unique craft beers at optimal temperatures.
***History
Lake Anna is steeped in Civil War and American history. The most notable historical events include the Battle of Chancellorsville in Spotsylvania, which resulted in more casualties than any other engagement ever fought on Virginia soil, including the wounding of General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson.
***Visit the site of the May 1864 Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse. 45-minute guided walking tours, featuring the “Bloody Angle” where the battle lasted two weeks and included bitter hand-to-hand combat.
***King's Dominion Amusement Park, 30 minutes away in Doswell
Families will enjoy thrilling rides, like Intimidator 305, Delirium, and the newest ride, Twisted Timbers. Twisted Timbers is a wooden coaster with a twist of steel—first of its kind in the mid-Atlantic—that plummets riders down a 109-foot-tall barrel roll drop and sends you twisting and turning at 54 miles per hour. Or take your kids to explore the recently expanded Planet Snoopy. Then, when you need to escape the heat, head to the park’s Soak City, which features water slides, rushing rivers, and a 650,000-gallon wave pool.
The activity options are endless! So much to do! Or just hideaway at the cottage, enjoying rural lake life. It's all good

Parking for three cars in front of cottage. Do not block driveway please. Keyless entry, make yourselves at home. Reach out with any questions or concerns.
Other things to note
We love dogs! $150 per dog. Please advise if bringing a dog(s). We want to welcome your dog with some treats too! A separate request for payment of pet fee will come through VRBOs Resolution Center, as they don't add it to your initial payment.
*The home is set back from the lake about 175 feet, while you are not directly on the lake... there are expansive lake views and you will have access to a dock. We love the cottage and feel like its our lake home away from home, but also wanted to set expectations for your stay!
*Please also note that we share our driveway with the small marina - while this is a huge bonus as you will have easy access to boat rentals, we do want to be sure that you're aware that vehicles may be coming and going from the marina via the driveway.
*We are positioned along a quiet, country road across from a farm. It is rarely busy, but there may be occasional road noise.
