About this property

Mountaintop cabin near Stone Mountain State Park and Roaring River Vineyards

If you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing get away, our remote cabin is the perfect choice. Located in a gated community in Wilkes County, Grais cabin sits on 10 wooded acres and is tucked away at the top of Carter Mountain. The cabin offers long range mountain views with outstanding vistas; perfect for enjoying a morning cup of coffee or watching the sunset with a glass of wine.

Our cabin was recently updated with stainless steel kitchen appliances, quartz countertops, apron front sink, new beds and mattresses, upgraded wireless hi-speed internet, and 2 large screen HD TV's. The TVs are equipped with Roku with access to Showtime, HBO/MAX, Netflix, Amazon, HULU, etc.

The main level has an open floor plan which contains the kitchen, dining area, coffee/wine bar, and living room. The master bedroom has a king size bed and en suite with a jacuzzi tub. There are 2 additional bedrooms, both with queen sized beds. There is a full bathroom on the main level as well. The lower level has a large screen HDTV, ping-pong table, pool table, and electronic dart board. There is also a full bath and an additional bedroom with a twin bed and a daybed with double mattress. The laundry room is also on this level.

Outdoors there is a fire pit with seating, a Weber gas grill, swing, corn hole boards, and access to a hammock. We are located close to Stone Mountain State Park (about 12 miles--25 minute drive), the Blue Ridge Parkway, Roaring River Winery (about 5 miles--15 minute drive), the cities of Wilkesboro, Elkin, and Sparta, and many Yadkin Valley wineries. This area offers fishing, hiking, golf, horse back riding and canoeing. Whether engaging in outside activities or simply enjoying the peace and quiet and majestic mountain views, Grais cabin is the perfect getaway from everyday life!

NOTE: 4WD or AWD is required. The distance from the main gate to our cabin which sits at the top of the mountain, is 2 miles. The speed limit is 15 mph which will take you 8-10 minutes. While the gravel road is very well maintained, there are some steep sections. We recommend arriving during daylight hours.

NOTE: While our cabin is within 25-60 minutes of many nearby activities and attractions, it is somewhat remote. Keep in mind that travel from the actual cabin to the main road outside the gated community accounts for 10 minutes of total driving time. The nearest grocery stores are a 25-30 minute ride from the cabin (about 15 miles). We suggest that you get groceries prior to arrival! There is an Engles in Elkin, Rock Creek IGA in North Wilkesboro, and Food Lion in Sparta. Additionally, there is a Food Lion, Lowes Foods, and Aldi in Wilkesboro. There are several Dollar General stores in the vicinity as well. We provide coffee, toilet paper and paper towels along with the other listed amenities

Great cabin!!

We really enjoyed this cabin. It's definitely a cabin to grab groceries on your way in and enjoy the cabin for the rest of your stay. It was super clean and had everything we needed and more. Super comfortable beds, lots of space. Enjoyed the ping pong table and pool table in the basement, great views from the basement and upstairs porch. The gravel road leading to the cabin was a bit difficult to get up, but we managed.

Thanksgiving Getaway!

We decided to take a little trip for the holiday and what a great decision it was. The cabin and view were wonderful, but the big appeal was the "game room" basement with the ping pong table and pool table. We hung out down there a bunch with our boys pretty much living down there. They loved it! Carol and Tim were very communicative and a joy to work with. Highly recommend!

Beautiful cabin with Great Views

Our loaded-down Toyota Sienna was having a little trouble on the steep incline covered in dusty gravel. That is when we discovered the TRAC OFF button and then we made it the rest of the way up the road. It was well worth it. The cabin is equipped with all kinds of entertainment and the views are spectacular. We were there on the 4th of July and got a spectacular show of plumes from several locations visible!

Beautiful house in a serene setting

My adult son and I spent 5 lovely days at Grais Cabin. It was well appointed throughout. It is a bit of climb up the 2 mile gravel road that leads to this little bit of paradise and I would recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle if you have access to one.. It was a bit tricky in my Prius V. The view from the huge covered back porch was spectacular! I have had two knee surgeries and I really appreciated the firepit location and accessibility; also only 2 steps to the main living area of the house. It truly provided a mountain top experience.

Drop dead gorgeous

This cabin is completely worth the journey to the top. Cabin is spotless. View is amazing. Communication was great from the owners. Its very remote, but cell signal and wifi were flawless. Neighboring cabin owner came over to visit and chat and told us if we neede d anything just to come over and ask. The road leading up is definitely a challenge. 4x4 or all wheel drive is really needed unless you really really really know how to drive a FWD on steep gravel roads. A RWD car willnever make it. My only wish list item wpuld be a hot tub, other than that, this place is one of the nicest, cleanest cabins ive ever stayed in. And cabins are my preferred vacation houses. If we're back down there again, will be the first place i look.

Cozy cabin

Very private. We didn’t hear another car come up the road the entire 5 days. This is the perfect place for peace and quiet. Comfortable beds. Everything you could need in the kitchen (including seasonings, condiments, even eggs and coffee!). Honestly, I’ve never rented a cabin that had so many consumables in the kitchen. No problems with Wi-Fi. There were plenty of towels, paper goods, soaps, trash bags. Really, the house is fully outfitted; all you need is your groceries. Town is a little bit of a drive away, but that’s exactly what we wanted. The house was warm despite the cold wind outside. My only criticism is that there was not enough hot water to fill the jacuzzi tub (showers were fine; the tub is just very big and takes lots of water). Otherwise, everything met or exceeded expectations. As others have noted, I’d recommend arriving during daylight, as there are no street lights and some steep parts on the road going up. We didn’t have to use 4WD but I’m sure it is necessary at times. Tim was a great host and I enjoyed working with him. Thank you, Tim, for your wonderful hospitality!

Fantastic mountain getaway

We had a fantastic time at this lovely cabin. The views are amazing! The cabin was very clean and there was plenty of room for a family of 6. We gathered at the cabin for Thanksgiving. We had a wonderful time and the kitchen was well equipped and easily accommodated cooking a full Thanskgiving feast. The appliance and furnishings are new and well kept. The internet and tv worked great. Everyone enjoyed lounging on the deck, swinging in the hammocks, evenings at the fire pit and ping-pong tournaments in the game room. We definitely recommend this property and hope to return again.

Beautiful Mountain Getaway

We stayed in the cabin and spent some time at Merlefest this past weekend and we have nothing but good things to say about this beautiful cabin in the mountains. It was clean, comfortable and had all the amenities we could want. Check-in and check-out were easy and we plan to stay again in the future.

Rest and Relaxation at its finest

Our family of 4 had a wonderful time at this beautiful cabin. Tim and Carol are very communicative and quick to respond. The home is beautiful, set on top of a mountain with beautiful views. The home was very well equipped with everything we needed. In the evenings we enjoyed movies, ping-pong, playing pool and grilling out. During the days we went to the smoky mountains, Cumberland Knob, and Roaring River Vinyards. While the guys went trout fishing with Mountains to Coast, the girls went to the town of Blowing Rock. We had a fantastic restful and relaxing vacation❤️

Beautiful spot to get away from it all

Great accommodations with a fabulous view from the back deck. Very private. Very well stocked. Beautifully furnished. The owner was very helpful, great communication. If you have access to a 4wd, I would bring it. The road is very steep, in great shape (no potholes, smooth gravel), but steep. One section took two tries in a minivan. A little more momentum was all that was needed on the second try. We would definitely rent again.
