Sparta and surrounding area enjoy some of the finest Bluegrass music in the world with Merlefest happening every year just down the road In Wilkesboro, NC or at the Muddy Creek Café and Music Hall in Sparta. Have a rest day before you start Cycle North Carolina "Mountains to Coast" Bicycle Ride in October or before you ride the Parkway. When you are finished with all of that just sit in one of the rocking chairs on the huge deck and watch the view go by or tune in a movie on the 55 inch Smart HDTV with free Sling TV, NETFLIX and Amazon Prime video, Free WiFi internet and a 200 DVD video library. Put out some deer corn and watch the deer come up and feed just outside your door and hear the turkey gobble as they walk by. Everything you could want is at your beckons call. Initially built to accommodate 2 golf foursomes this 2400 square foot, 4br (2 Master Suites), 3.5 bath home makes the perfect vacation spot for families or group of friends. Relaxing and Remote location

There are alot of activities to do in the area hiking, canoeing/kayaking, fishing, or just site seeing etc. We also found a few good places to eat in the town of Sparta about 15 mins away.

Family getaway

This is a great place to relax, get away, be as active or as inactive as you want. It is close to antique places, Yadkin River Valley wineries, places to hike, and just great views to sit and enjoy. My brother and sister-in-law have stressful jobs, and they were thoroughly relaxed. We've already booked our next stay.

Beautiful Property and very comfortable

Comfortably fit 8 of us and our long haired chocolate mini dachshund. We were in the area for a wedding so didn't get to enjoy everything about this lovely getaway. Would have been a great destination all by itself. Great communication from owner. Highly recommend it!

Late April Visit

We had a group of five visit in late April for four nights. The place has a great setting and a great view. It was spacious and clean and well set up to accommodate a group of our size or an even bigger group. Our host, Steve, was super responsive and very helpful answering questions and providing suggestions. I am happy to recommend Steve's place to others.

The house has a beautiful view and everything we could have wished for. The hosts have really been thoughtful in providing a wonderful experience and lots of good information. The house is very spacious and easily accommodated our group of 6. We only wish we had a longer time to spend here. We will definitely come back! Sarah

Everything we had hoped it would be...

Our little family reunion couldn't have asked for a better location to relax, reconnect, and enjoy some beautiful views and mountain air. Thank you Steve for sharing your property and being so easy to reach if necessary. If you stay here, make it a point to go to Stone Mountain Park and slide down Widows Creek Falls!! Kayaking the New River was only 30 min away as well. House has everything you could possibly need for your stay and then some. We enjoyed every minute!!

Wonderful and relaxing!

We enjoyed a great week in Sparta! We were so pleased with the cabin! Spacious and perfect accommodations. Every comfort of home! It snowed the first night we arrived - a first for the Florida kids! We picked up deer corn while antiquing and like clockwork, deer visited us every morning and evening. Our time was peaceful and relaxing - we had the opportunity to really relax and enjoy. Thank you for sharing your retreat! Dee and Mark Tillman & family

Beautiful, Relaxing Mountain Retreat

The 7 of us (teachers) had a wonderful time at Rocky Acres! It is secluded and quiet. The view was amazing...something you will never grow tired of. It was so fun to curl up and visit and DE-STRESS! There is plenty of room to spread out and relax. We had snow Friday night and it was a treat to wake up and see snow on the mountain peaks. The owner thought of everything! The kitchen is stocked with everything you need and the place was super clean. There were plenty of blankets, games, and movies, etc. We shopped in Sparta on Saturday and rode the parkway for some beautiful views. We are already are planning our return trip for next April. Thanks Steve for a wonderful place to unwind and get back to nature!

A Great Getaway

We all (5) enjoyed our stay. The "cabin" is truly a mountain getaway as we crossed the eastern continental divide in Roaring Gap to get there. That's not as daunting as it might sound as the NC mountains aren't all that imposing, just green and lush this year. The bedrooms were comfortable with a good number of bathrooms. The main living area is pleasant and spacious. I particularly liked the wooden beams on the high ceiling. We had plenty of room to spread out and several in the group took rocking chairs out on the deck. Overall it was a pleasant relaxing stay including a foray into Elkin on Saturday for the annual wine festival. The only problem we had during our stay was that one member of our crew couldn't get cellular coverage. The rest of us were fine and of course we all connected to the WiFi.

Excellent views & super clean

We rented the house for a brother’s weekend getaway. Steve was very accessible re: communication (access codes, how to use amenities on property, etc). The location is excellent, the property is well-maintained & well-stocked…kitchen appliances, cooking utensils, plenty of bedding, even fire starters & seasoned firewood for the outdoor fire pit are on-site. Very nice experience!

About the host

Hosted by Steve Clark

Host profile image
Serenity was built to accommodate 2 golf foursomes and has been a family retreat for many years. With the family scattered throughout the southeast we have a hard time getting up to the mountains which is why we have opened our doors to you. We know you will love the peace and serenity of Rocky Acres Retreat.

Why they chose this property

The house sits on 1 acre and we also own another 5 acres adjacent to it. Our back yard is in fact a part of Stone Mountain State Park and across the gravel private drive is one house and another 50+ acres of undeveloped private property. So you are literally surrounded by dozens of acres of woods where the only neighbors are the wildlife. We are only a short walk from the Blue Ridge Parkway so some of the most beautiful scenery in the country can be seen from our deck or just a short walk down the driveway. We know you will enjoy the peaceful mountain life. Your only neighbors are the wildlife. With 2400 square feet of living space including a large patio and fire pit area your family and friends can enjoy gathering together and not feel cramped with plenty of seating space so everyone can spread out and truly relax.

What makes this property unique

Stone Mountain State Park is literally in our back yard and the Blue Ridge Parkway is a short walk away. You can walk 1.5 miles south on the Parkway to Stone Mountain Lookout. Park facilities are only a 15 minute drive from the house. 10 miles south down the Parkway is Doughton Park with a 6,000-acre landscape of open meadows and pioneer cabins and some of the best hiking around. Sparta, which is only 9 miles away has some of the best bluegrass music in North Carolina at the Muddy Creek Cafe and Music Hall. There are over thirty wineries within a 30 mile radius of our house. Just pick one or several to enjoy the day wine tasting. Antiquing is another activity you can enjoy. Include antiquing with wine tasting and have a blast. Down in Sparta is the New River State Park and New River Campground where you can enjoy the cool waters or a canoe or kayaking trip. Five golf courses are close by too. Get in 18 at either Roaring Gap Golf Course, Olde Beau Golf Club, Deer Creek Golf Course, Stone Mountain Golf Club and High Meadows Golf & Country Club. Buy some deer corn at the local store and place some in the center island in the driveway and sit on the deck and watch the deer come up to feed. The wrap around deck is large enough to put out the corn hole game (provided) and heat up the competition or just sit on one of the eight rocking chairs and enjoy the scenery. On those cold rainy days curl up by the stone gas log fireplace or enjoy the 55 inch Smart HDTV with Free Sling TV, NETFLIX and Amazon Prime or one of 200 DVD's. The full kitchen is a cooks delight with everything you need to make a cake or pie or whip up that old family favorite meal. This is the perfect place to get away from it all and experience some country living. The phone won't ring unless you give someone the number and it is so quiet outside you can hear the turkey gobbling in the woods and watch as the deer stroll by the house. You won't find a more peaceful retreat with so many amenities.
