The residence was clean and location was great. Communication with the owner was excellent. Could not ask for more in a rental. Would definitely stay there again.
We loved our stay at Sugar Moon in Alpine, Texas. It was so cool that we could access the house with an app on our phone. The place is perfectly located in downtown Alpine, right across the street from the grocery store. We had a great time! 5 stars!
This was a great little house in a perfect location to all the sights in and around the area!!!.. walking distance to almost anywhere you wanted to go in town.. a great little grocer across the street and good restaurants and 2 really great coffee shops down the street.. the house was neat and clean and had everything you needed.. thank you Sugar Moon for a great stay!!!!!

Very clean, hosts were very nice and great communication.
The house is beautiful and well appointed! The small touches that the hosts add though are what makes it really special! From the basket of goodies and personal note with maps and happening events to the plush, thick towels, Shelley and Shack really know how how to make you feel welcome and comfortable. If you’re visiting Alpine, look no further, this is the place to stay!
We stayed at Sugar Moon 4 nights. The home was beautifully decorated and extremely clean. It was such a nice respite each night after touring the Big Bend area. We wished we had more time just staying at the house. Host Shelly was always available for any questions. Would definitely stay here again if we are ever in the area!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We loved being walking distance from downtown. The house was clean, well stocked and tastefully decorated. Beds were comfy! We couldn’t have asked for more and hope to stay at the house again.
We had a blast spending thanksgiving here. The house was perfect for us. Nice that everything was in walking distance too. Favorite part was the fire pit area.
We had the best stay at Sugar Moon! The rental was in the perfect location to access food and even walk to view the murals. The coffee and amenities were just the cherry on top!
We have stayed in VRBO's for years. This little house is at the top for comfort, bed's, pillows, sofa, TV, dining and just plain a joy to stay in. It's a century of love put into a tiny house. Shelley was great!Another plus was everything was only blocks from where we were staying. Grocery across the street. The house was well stocked with snacks, condiments, spices, foil and other stuff that really adds up if you have to get it yourself. If we come back out to Big Bend we will definitely stay with Shelley and Brock again. They were more than accommodating with the hick-ups we faced when we arrived on the Amtrak.
This was one of the best vrbo's I've ever stayed. Everything was easy, clean and full of exceptional quality. They left some snacks, water bottles in the fridge, a book full of Alpine history and things to do, it was such a great stay. 5 stars for sure!
This property was clean, comfortable, cool, and perfect for our stay. When we arrived, I was iffy about its location on a main street, but there was no need for concern. First of all, there's not that much traffic in Alpine anyway. And once inside the house, we heard no traffic noise. I'd stay there again.
Lovely and well appointed cottage on edge of downtown Alpine. House is cozy and comfortable, yet roomy and breathable. Alpine is a great home base for all this corner of West Texas has to offer, and this home’s location in Alpine is close to all Alpine has to offer. Shelley is super hospitable and goes above and beyond to welcome you to the area. Come on out and hike, take in the mountains, and experience west Texas!!
Charming, clean and comfortable 2 bedrooms, one bath home in the center of everything. Hosts are amazing and very accommodating.; they even brought us some books to read when I mentioned I’d left mine at home. Well stocked coffee and snack bar. We really enjoyed our stay!
My one complaint is the traffic noise which you can hear inside the house; I am noise sensitive so I had to wear earplugs at night to sleep, but my friend was not bothered by the train and traffic noise at all.
We would stay here again when in Alpine!
Beautiful, cozy and clean house. Great location everything walking distance

About the host
Hosted by Shelley
Both retired school teachers, my husband and I moved to Alpine in 2017. We had always wanted to have a vacation rental, and acquired this property in 2019. We completely updated the property, which had been severely neglected. Our goal was to provide all the modern comforts while still retaining the charm of a 100-year old house. Come see us, we believe you'll agree.
Why they chose this property
Very centrally located and within walking distance to most of downtown Alpine. Located within two hours drive to Big Bend National Park and closer than that to much of the area, it is a perfect headquarters to exploring this part of West Texas.
What makes this property unique
What we hear the most from guests is that walking in to the Sugar Moon is like re-visiting your grandmother's house. While we do provide modern comforts, the architecture and design of this home is reminiscent of days-gone-by, from the ironing board cabinet in the kitchen, the telephone cabinet built into the hallway, and the milk drop by the side door, which allowed the local milk man to pick up used bottles and leave fresh milk.
