This tri-level home is perfect for your Blue Ridge getaway. Located in the Powder Horn community, approx. 20 min. from downtwon Boone and 10 min. from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Viewing deer and wild turkey is an everyday experience, and birdlovers occasionally see and often hear the rare piliated woodpecker.
The large master bedroom is on the top floor with a queen-sized bed, full bath, and sliding glass doors leading to a deck. The loft has a couch, bumper pool and a twin bed with a trundle.
The main floor offers a fully equipped kitchen with dining area, a large den with games table, and sliding glass doors leading to the deck. There is one bedroom with a queen-sized bed, one bedroom with two twin beds, and a full bath.
The ground floor has a ping pong table, one double bed, one twin bed, a full bath, and sliding glass doors to the ground floor deck.
We provide wifi, direct t.v. on 2 floors as well as dvd and vcr players, movies, books, games and puzzles. The direct t.v. only sometimes works, despite our best efforts. We pay for the best service on the mountain, but we are still in the mountains, so our service is spotty.
The Powder Horn community has hiking trails, an outdoor solar heated swimming pool, tennis courts, picnic area and a club house. In the club house you'll find pool tables, videos to borrow, and frequent community events.

The cabin itself just needs a few updates to a more modern cabin look. Everything has this old look that is kind of creepy (just my opinion). I'm not bougie but i just need things to look a certain way. The kitchen was the worst for me regarding the pots/pans were all mismatched and the kitchen could use a complete makeover. All in all we had a great time and the host was amazing!
We stayed here for 4 days and it was overall a nice experience. Wifi signal is not good, but the direct tv worked fine. House was dated but comfortable. The wrap around deck and view were amazing.
I was looking for a mountain stay for my mom (and some family) who has to use a walker.
This place has accessibility for someone with those needs. Bedrooms on the main floor and a nice deck with easy access.
It was quiet and enjoyable. The cabin has plenty of space and everything we needed was provided.
Property is spacious, 3-levels, a little dark inside. Wireless and cell service were challenging, but shelves were full of books and games. Roadway in to the chalet is not for those with motion sickness concerns. Overall we had a pleasant stay.
This was our first trip to the mountains so we didn't know what to expect. The home was lovely and everyone enjoyed themselves. My 8 year old wasn't able to roast her marshmallows but she was happy with the trip.
The cabin was great as far as space and location goes. There was space for everyone in our two families party with young children and teens. The amenities in the community are great with a very nice pool by a small lake with paddle boats and a clubhouse for family hangouts. The cabin is desperately in need of floor upggrades with an old and stinky carpet and updates to the furniture are needed. Those two things would make a huge difference! The place was cleaned very well by the cleaning service however. Overall we enjoyed our stay!
If you are looking for a 4 Seasons or Hilton, this is not for you. But, if you want to stay in a mountain cabin, you can't do much better than this. I will say the ride up is not for the faint of heart but it is actually fun.
The house had plenty of room for everyone, tons of movies, books, and games. A great fireplace with a blower.
Internet and Direct TV can be challenging - but honestly that is not the reason we went up there.
Thank you again for sharing your wonderful home.
We had an extremely disturbing and unacceptable experience at this property, followed by months of unresolved issues afterward. While the home initially appeared beautiful, it was not clean or safe to stay in. After returning from grocery shopping on our first night, we discovered rodent droppings throughout the kitchen, including on counters and inside drawers. Cabinets were cluttered and not cleaned. Pots and pans were dirty with food residue and disorganized,we had to wash every dish and clean the counters and stove ourselves. As we inspected further, we found rodent feces and urine on bedroom blankets, a downstairs bathroom cabinet containing rodent droppings, a bait trap, and a rodent nest, and extremely loud rodent activity throughout the night in walls, closets, and cabinets. Multiple family members could not sleep, and most refused to stay due to the clear health and safety hazard. We contacted the host immediately and received no response. We then contacted VRBO, provided extensive photo documentation, and repeatedly asked only to be relocated, as we were over six hours from home. Despite multiple escalations, we were told repeatedly that our case had not been sent to the correct department. VRBO was unable to reach the host and ultimately offered only a 100 credit, which was inappropriate given the severity of the situation. We were forced to leave the property entirely.Days later, the owner finally responded, apologized, and offered a refund. She requested ph
Overall very nice cabin. If you had kids that slept in sleeping bags you could get more than 11 in the cabin. Very nice wrap around porch. The grill could use a giod cleaning it was hard to get the flame all the way around but i got it. As they state hard to get anything to play on the tv but there is a dvd and vcr player with a good selection of movies. Yes theres a musty smell may need to het a dehumidifier gling in there and furnishings not as pictured and a bit outdated but in very good condition. The bumperpool rable was missing some if the balls but none in our group wanted to play it so thats ok. Theres a selection of board games and puzzles also. Very reasonably priced for such a big cabin. I dont think i would book in the winter with snow due to the turns in the roads but i bet its beautiful up there in the winter. Its hard to see on some of the roads at night with no street lamps and in the rain especially so i would be very careful if driving in at night the first time. My cousin left her id up there and the host was gracious enough to mail it back to us also.

Decent house in a mountain community
The house has potential but it really needs a deep, deep cleaning and the furniture needs to be replaced.
Our group was 6 adults, 1 teenager and a toddler for a weekend and we had a great time! I knew from the reviews that it was an older home but it was very clean, stocked with everything we needed, plenty of space and very cozy. We put up the provided baby gates to keep the 2 year old from going up and down the stairs. The internet worked fine as long as multiple people weren't using devices at the same time. We put a puzzle together, watched movies and saw several deer in the neighborhood. The only negative comment is that 1 person out of the whole group (me) got a little car sick from the curvy roads. It's a great place for the price but I recommend having everything you need upon arrival so you don't have to make multiple trips to town. We loved the house and would definitely visit again!

Adequate but in need of TLC
Our family of 7 adults and 2 children stayed for the weekend. The home is very outdated, and although the surfaces were fairly clean, overall it needs a lot of cleaning ie cobwebs in the kitchen cabinets, dusty furniture and dirty lamp shades. The carpet and furniture are old and the home smells musty. The place is very dark with lamps and ceiling fixtures that either don’t work or have burned out bulbs. The outside gas grill is unusable because it is filthy and had hundreds of ants and spiders climbing all over it. The A/C is not working. We were informed of this a couple of days before our 2 week cancellation deadline—too late to find another place over Labor Day. The kitchen is adequate but the cabinets are full of old pans, and the drawers are disorganized so it was hard to find things to use. There are no baking dishes or cookie sheets. The bathrooms were good except for the lights. The mattresses are old but adequate. The home is very isolated with no view of the mountains from the house. We enjoyed our stay as a family because we enjoyed the fact that it is rustic and the cable worked so we could watch football. The internet worked fairly well, and although somewhat difficult, we were able to enjoy family meals.
The pictures are old and some of the furniture is dated. It was good and clean. The gas grill worked but needs fixing or replacing. So quiet and peaceful sitting on the deck in the morning and evenings.
We all liked this cabin. It made you feel very comfortable. I liked the older furniture and the character it showed. Would have been nice to be a little more accessible to Boone and Tweetsie. A little more of a drive, but great if you are looking for the secluded cabin adventure. Great clubhouse and pool.

Didn't love it
It WAS clean, though had a musty smell--not too bad. Furniture in family room and dining area are not what was shown on VRBO pics. A lot of the furniture was shoddy and old. Not good lighting at all in the family room area. Kitchen needs updated--just kind of disorganized and small and dark with old appliances. Check out instructions a little confusing--never found the 2nd set of keys we were told to leave on counter. We didn't try to contact the property manager. We didn't spend a lot of time there as we were attending a music festival in Wilksboro. Not a bad price and it's hard to get a booking for that weekend in the area. Not a terrible experience-- plenty of towels, toilet paper, etc; Would not have booked if pictures had been accurate.
