Unique, Historic Downtown Loft

Welcome to The Loft on Colby!

Located in the heart of historic Whitehall, The Loft on Colby was originally constructed as a Masonic Temple in 1922 and is home to the first piano delivered to the White Lake area. This piano continues to serve as a focal point to the large living space. The Loft on Colby is one of the original and tallest buildings of this quaint town. This one-of-a-kind property has one bedroom, two and a half baths and an open loft sleeping area (formerly the balcony.) The Loft can easily accommodate up to 8 guests. It is the perfect home-base to enjoy all that the Whitehall/Montague area has to offer.

The Loft is conveniently located to US 31, an hour from Grand Rapids, and 3.5 hour drive from Chicago or Detroit.

Relax with a good book while enjoying the view overlooking White Lake Bayou. Explore beyond to shops, restaurants, walking paths, bike trails, kayak liveries, or to the grassy park just steps away on White Lake. A scenic drive to the nearby Duck Lake State Park offers the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan and the warm wading waters beneath the bridge to Duck Lake.

In our well-stocked kitchen, you will find everything you need to prepare and serve meals for 8. If you prefer takeout or delivery, menus from local restaurants are available.

The Loft is stocked with kitchen staples such as table settings, coffee, paper goods, soaps (dishwasher/dish) garbage bags, as well as bedding and bath/beach towels, and travel size toiletries.





We do not host Bachelor/Bachelorette or any other gatherings of that nature.

NOTE: Two security cameras (one outside, facing out--covering balcony, first set of stairs and a portion of the parking lot), located on the 2nd floor of the building. Second security camera located in the vestibule of the storefront.

NOTE: The Loft is located at the top of the tallest building in downtown Whitehall. We don't have an elevator, but you may enter/exit from either the Colby Street front or back parking lot doors. Please note: Outside back parking lot stairs, to The Loft, are narrow and open to the elements. If carrying multiple pieces of luggage, or you feel more comfortable, please use the front indoor stairs.

Interior/exterior staircases require effort and maybe challenging for some.

NOTE: As stated above, The Loft is located in downtown Whitehall on Colby St. which is the main street of town. We offer sound machines; ear plugs and box fans (located in the hallway closet) for traffic noise in the front "downtown view" bedroom.

NOTE: The front "downtown view" bedroom has two king beds that are divided by a curtain and the Loft King bed sleeping space (with additional sofa sleeper) is open and airy overlooking the grand living quarters.

The Loft rental agreement needs to be signed and returned prior to completing your reservation.

Our stay was absolutely excellent! Kristin was incredibly helpful and communicative. One of the most thoughtfully set up place I've ever stayed in. Starting with the beautiful charcuterie tray upon arrival, even down to the noise machines and eye masks to ensure we were super comfortable at all times. She's an absolute super host!

The Loft on Colby was perfect! All of little details you need (and forget to bring) were there. Blankets, ear plugs, water by the bed, games, washer/dryer - nothing was missing. Including swans on the lake we could watch from the window. Tons of space and set up for everyone to spread out. We were in town for the Leonard Falcone tuba festival and the space was amazing for tubas! Thank you!

Located just a short walk from restaurants, breweries, water, and marinas, the loft on Colby immerses you in everything Whitehall has to offer! The loft is clean, comfortable, and fully stocked with anything guests could possibly need. We are already discussing our next visit!

A lovely getaway

Our visit at The Loft was truly a treat. We enjoyed the views from the window seat and snuggling up with a book in the corner nook. Such care and thought was put into little touches throughout the property. We needed this time for some rest and recovery and this experience exceeded all of our expectations.

5-Star Vacation!

Pictures online do not do this place justice. The minute we walked in the front door we were blown-away and instead of heading out for our planned activities decided to stay put and enjoy every thing this home has to offer. Spectacular and we will be back next month for sure.

The Loft on Colby exceeded our expectations in every way!! The Loft was immaculately clean, comfortable and more beautiful in person than the pictures can capture! Kristin was very responsive and her thoughtfulness with all the extra touches (and especially the local food treats) made this one of our favorite places to stay! The quaint town and its people are one of a kind! Would definitely recommend and would love to visit again!

Unique Stay!

We loved staying at the loft the night before our wedding! It was a beautiful backdrop for getting ready photos and it slept my seven bridesmaids and I, comfortably! Kristin is a great host, from being promptly available with a hiccup with the door lock to leaving local treats as a welcome present, the attention to detail makes this stay worth every penny. We are local to the area but plan on finding an "excuse" to stay at the loft on colby again sometime soon!

5-Star Vacation!

Never knew such a gem could be tucked-away in little Whitehall, MI! We have visited twice now in the past 6 weeks and are planning another little two-day getaway in two weeks with family this time. A little slice of heaven and only one hour from our home. The 25' ceiling is magnificent and the owner truly has gone above and beyond to ensure you feel pampered and at home at the same time. BLISS!

Amazing!!!

Surprised my Wife with a weekend getaway at The Loft this fall and was amazing all around. This is THE BEST VRBO we have ever stayed at so far. The place was amazing, loved all the personal touches, and just made you feel at home and so comfortable. The owners did an awesome job adding the personal touches where they had gifts and snacks waiting for us. Walkable to everything around and just a great place to relax and have a getaway for a few days. I would highly recommend The Loft and we will be back very soon!

Above and Beyond!

I can’t begin to describe how great our stay was. The details that Kristen puts into this property to make sure that we had anything and everything that we could possibly need was beyond amazing. We hade the best time and we will absolutely be recommending this place to family and friends. This was by far the best VRBO we have ever stayed at and we felt so welcomed and pampered. Great location!

We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the loft. We appreciated the water and samples of local food that were left there for us. Our only gripe is that there is no private bedroom. The two bedrooms are separated by a curtain instead of a door, and this was not made clear on the listing. That said, we would stay there again. Thanks!

Girls' Trip

We stayed at the Colby for a long weekend girls trip. Everything was just perfect! This is the cleanest place we've ever rented and it was stocked with everything we needed (beach towels, beach chairs, farmers market basket, robes and slippers, water bottles in the bedrooms, soap, garbage bags, lots of coffee, etc). We all had such a relaxing time. Thanks to Kristen for all the great info about ideas for the weekend (spa, yoga, beach, restaurants etc). And the charcuterie gift was such a great touch. If you stay here consider yourself lucky!
