Unique, Historic Downtown Loft

Welcome to The Loft on Colby!

Located in the heart of historic Whitehall, The Loft on Colby was originally constructed as a Masonic Temple in 1922 and is home to the first piano delivered to the White Lake area. This piano continues to serve as a focal point to the large living space. The Loft on Colby is one of the original and tallest buildings of this quaint town. This one-of-a-kind property has one bedroom, two and a half baths and an open loft sleeping area (formerly the balcony.) The Loft can easily accommodate up to 8 guests. It is the perfect home-base to enjoy all that the Whitehall/Montague area has to offer.

The Loft is conveniently located to US 31, an hour from Grand Rapids, and 3.5 hour drive from Chicago or Detroit.

Relax with a good book while enjoying the view overlooking White Lake Bayou. Explore beyond to shops, restaurants, walking paths, bike trails, kayak liveries, or to the grassy park just steps away on White Lake. A scenic drive to the nearby Duck Lake State Park offers the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan and the warm wading waters beneath the bridge to Duck Lake.

In our well-stocked kitchen, you will find everything you need to prepare and serve meals for 8. If you prefer takeout or delivery, menus from local restaurants are available.

The Loft is stocked with kitchen staples such as table settings, coffee, paper goods, soaps (dishwasher/dish) garbage bags, as well as bedding and bath/beach towels, and travel size toiletries.

NOTE: Two security cameras (one outside, facing out--covering balcony, first set of stairs and a portion of the parking lot), located on the 2nd floor of the building. Second security camera located in the vestibule of the storefront.

NOTE: The Loft is located at the top of the tallest building in downtown Whitehall. We don't have an elevator, but you may enter/exit from either the Colby Street front or back parking lot doors. Please note: Outside back parking lot stairs, to The Loft, are narrow and open to the elements. If carrying multiple pieces of luggage, or you feel more comfortable, please use the front indoor stairs.

Interior/exterior staircases require effort and maybe challenging for some.

NOTE: As stated above, The Loft is located in downtown Whitehall on Colby St. which is the main street of town. We offer sound machines; ear plugs and box fans (located in the hallway closet) for traffic noise in the front "downtown view" bedroom.

NOTE: The front "downtown view" bedroom has two king beds that are divided by a curtain and the Loft King bed sleeping space (with additional sofa sleeper) is open and airy overlooking the grand living quarters.

Fantastic, unique, historic, clean!

Located just a short walk from restaurants, breweries, water, and marinas, the loft on Colby immerses you in everything Whitehall has to offer! The loft is clean, comfortable, and fully stocked with anything guests could possibly need. We are already discussing our next visit!

5-Star Vacation!

Pictures online do not do this place justice. The minute we walked in the front door we were blown-away and instead of heading out for our planned activities decided to stay put and enjoy every thing this home has to offer. Spectacular and we will be back next month for sure.

The Loft on Colby exceeded our expectations in every way!! The Loft was immaculately clean, comfortable and more beautiful in person than the pictures can capture! Kristin was very responsive and her thoughtfulness with all the extra touches (and especially the local food treats) made this one of our favorite places to stay! The quaint town and its people are one of a kind! Would definitely recommend and would love to visit again!

Unique Stay!

We loved staying at the loft the night before our wedding! It was a beautiful backdrop for getting ready photos and it slept my seven bridesmaids and I, comfortably! Kristin is a great host, from being promptly available with a hiccup with the door lock to leaving local treats as a welcome present, the attention to detail makes this stay worth every penny. We are local to the area but plan on finding an "excuse" to stay at the loft on colby again sometime soon!

Girls' Trip

We stayed at the Colby for a long weekend girls trip. Everything was just perfect! This is the cleanest place we've ever rented and it was stocked with everything we needed (beach towels, beach chairs, farmers market basket, robes and slippers, water bottles in the bedrooms, soap, garbage bags, lots of coffee, etc). We all had such a relaxing time. Thanks to Kristen for all the great info about ideas for the weekend (spa, yoga, beach, restaurants etc). And the charcuterie gift was such a great touch. If you stay here consider yourself lucky!

Spacious and Lovely

I absolutely loved the decor and the extras throughout, like the bottled water by the bed and the sleeping masks. It's the little things that truly set the property apart. 5-Star Vacation!

Never knew such a gem could be tucked-away in little Whitehall, MI! We have visited twice now in the past 6 weeks and are planning another little two-day getaway in two weeks with family this time. A little slice of heaven and only one hour from our home. The 25' ceiling is magnificent and the owner truly has gone above and beyond to ensure you feel pampered and at home at the same time. BLISS!

Amazing!!!

Surprised my Wife with a weekend getaway at The Loft this fall and was amazing all around. This is THE BEST VRBO we have ever stayed at so far. The place was amazing, loved all the personal touches, and just made you feel at home and so comfortable. The owners did an awesome job adding the personal touches where they had gifts and snacks waiting for us. Walkable to everything around and just a great place to relax and have a getaway for a few days. I would highly recommend The Loft and we will be back very soon!

Above and Beyond!

I can’t begin to describe how great our stay was. The details that Kristen puts into this property to make sure that we had anything and everything that we could possibly need was beyond amazing. We hade the best time and we will absolutely be recommending this place to family and friends. This was by far the best VRBO we have ever stayed at and we felt so welcomed and pampered. Great location!

We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the loft. We appreciated the water and samples of local food that were left there for us. Our only gripe is that there is no private bedroom. The two bedrooms are separated by a curtain instead of a door, and this was not made clear on the listing. That said, we would stay there again. Thanks!

It's the little touches

What a wonderful home! There is so much to love about this place - the location, the spaciousness, the quality of furnishings, the cleanliness and the friendliness and communication from hosts. But probably the best thing are the added touches. The hosts use a portion of the revenue to provide items from local businesses. Upon arrival, we had the best charcuterie board and baked goods waiting for us, plus a gift card to a local pub. We loved this! It is so thoughtful! We can't say enough good things about the Loft and can't wait to return next summer!

Wow Wow Wow Wow!

We can’t stop thinking about our experience at The Loft on Colby! From check in to check out and everything in between, my family and I LOVED the experience. Michigan’s adventure was 10 minutes away. Lake Michigan maybe 13 minutes. So many nice people and fun little shops/pubs/restaurants in the area. The owner does a great job making sure you feel comfortable in your home away from home. We honestly can’t wait to book again and this will be a repeat booking for years to come!

What a great spot!!!

We stayed at the Loft on Colby over the Fourth of July. Kristen made our stay there very special. Was always available before the trip to answer questions about the area and things going on for the holiday. We were blown away with the Loft when we entered. Greeted with breakfast goodies, charcuterie board and even a gift card for Fetch Brewery right down the stairs which we frequented a few times. Accommodations including the kitchen/bathroom amenities were top notch to say the least. Would definitely be back and recommend this to anyone looking to get away to a great quaint small town with many things to to nearby, restaurants, lake, pontoon rentals, walking, biking, etc…

Perfection

This loft is gorgeous! Everything about it was a delight. Walk to a restaurant or bar, or out the back to someplace equally delightful, although we did not have time to do that. I had not a single complaint… beds were comfy, superior quality towels, better stocked kitchen than I have at home! Although it’s very historical and grandiose, it still feels very comfortable. Kristin, the hostess, is a lot of the reason for this. She tends to every detail to make your stay as pleasant as can be. The pictures are 100% accurate…we will be back without a doubt!

You have to stay here!

I really can’t say enough great things about this place like if you’re thinking about it there is no second-guessing in booking. It is even more gorgeous than the photos. The location is great - there’s even a super late night bar across the street and a killer brewery right below you. Walmart just a few minutes away, and endless delicious restaurants! 11/10 would stay here again. The amenities and kindness of the host are unmatched. Side note: if you’re looking for privacy, this place isn’t it. The two main bedrooms are separated by a curtain and the loft is well.. an open loft! Worked totally fine for our group, just worth noting!!!

A Truly Luxurious Mansion

I truly cannot describe just how perfect this home was to begin with let alone how much Kristin went above and beyond to make this weekend spectacular. Check-in was a breeze and walking through the front door felt like entering a mansion! The open floor plan is incredible especially considering the age of the loft! Kristin was much too kind and left the vrbo scattered with treats from local vendors including everything from a beautiful cake and charcuterie board to shampoos and even sleep masks with robes! The entire staging of the place was so thoughtful and us group of 7 girls kept finding more and more things to fall in love with. I could go on for hours about how spectacular this place was and we didn't even visit the firepit outside! You can certainly expect to have us back again for another getaway soon - THANK YOU KRISTIN!

Fantastic Experience.

I have to say--most VRBO's struggle to live up to the pictures and descriptions in person. This was the opposite---it looked grand enough in the pictures, but it was even better in real life. Took our breath away when we first entered the property. We look forward to renting this again if we are in the area. Bravo to the owners. They made it so easy---and the breakfast rolls and cheese board were great toppers to an already fantastic experience. You do have to climb two flights of stairs, and someone could struggle a bit with that if you have troubles with that sort of thing. But the climb is well worth it if you are able. We just can't stop talking about the incredible layout of this amazing property. And the brewery next door and clothing shops across the street didn't hurt either....

Great Visit!

Lovely, relaxing spot for your next vacation, etc. The host was very communicative and made us feel right at home. She included so many kind and thoughtful extra touches that made our visit special! A lovely getaway

Our visit at The Loft was truly a treat. We enjoyed the views from the window seat and snuggling up with a book in the corner nook. Such care and thought was put into little touches throughout the property. We needed this time for some rest and recovery and this experience exceeded all of our expectations.
