Snag a getaway at Dune Buggy in June before it becomes only available as part of a 3-cottage rental at Treetops (entire family compound that sleeps 12, listing ID 2227155).

Dune Buggy is the newest of cottages and a special retreat at the top of the dune with a wrap-around porch, studio-style layout with a wood-burning stove, half-bath, and outdoor shower. Guests can open all the windows and enjoy complete outdoor-style (screened-in) sleeping, or keep it closed for a cozy night on the dune. No A/C or central heat in this one! Dune Buggy is one of three cottages in close proximity to one another. Guests of all 3 cottages have access to a gas grill and a new and professionally-serviced hot tub.

Kitchenette: please see photos and 3D tour. The kitchen area is part of the bedroom and includes a small refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker, microwave, and dishes/utensils.

Bath: Dune Buggy features a half bath inside with a toilet and sink, and an outdoor shower with hot and cold water. The hot water heater works but is small, please take quick showers for maximum comfort.

WHY THIS LOCATION?

A unique property requires a spectacular location and activities. Treetops cottage complex is no exception. This spot is home to a rare combination of the Saugatuck harbor, Saugatuck Chain Ferry, downtown restaurants/shops, Mount Baldhead, hiking, and beaches. As the primary means to access Lake Michigan, the harbor is full of boats, music, and other fun sights. Positioned directly across from downtown Saugatuck, the complex is perched on a 50 foot dune that overlooks the entire downtown area.

A short walk leads to Saugatuck’s famous public Chain Ferry that shuttles between downtown Saugatuck and the cottages, no driving or parking needed. Dune Buggy is located across the dunes from Lake Michigan and the award-winning Oval Beach, the best and largest beach in the entire area. Open daily; the beach is accessible from the cottage via a short 2-minute drive (or 15 minute hike).

TV/INTERNET

+ Roku-enabled 4K TV in screened porch. Roku devices include streaming AT&T TV Now app with 65+ channels. Additional streaming apps available on Roku (e.g., Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc.) available for use with guest accounts/credentials. 1 Gbps high-speed internet and expansive WiFi network is provided.

way below expectations

unfortunately, we were very disappointed in the accommodations. It did indicate that there was an outdoor shower. However, we did not realize it was the only shower also, the shower curtain was half ripped off the shower stall itself with only two sided, leaving one open side to the neighbors and had large cobwebs in it and indicated we would be able to share a hot tub and a fire pit with other residents which would’ve been fine except that the hot tub was on the other person‘s deck, and the fire pit was outside the other persons side door, which would’ve been very rude to participate in it indicated that the hot water heater was small. There was less than two minutes of hot water for each shower and they had to be spaced about 45 minutes apart as an insurance person I would say that the steps leading to the location along with the railing or an extreme liability hazard, the railing itself was weak at best , the fireplace had loose rocks and sand around the bottom of it, which made it a hindrance also . there were two space heaters one worked great one was pointless. The city of Saugatuck Oval Beach in the surrounding areas will bring us back.

Perfect Getaway

The dune buggy cottage was absolutely perfect for a weekend getaway. The “vibe” was perfect for a relaxing weekend to celebrate our anniversary. The screened in porch was our favorite, drinking our morning coffee , listening to the bird chirping, watching deer and wild life was the perfect way to start our mornings. Our host Erica was amazing, she helped with any questions we had almost immediately. If you like the outdoorsy feel with being actual inside BOOK this place now! We will definitely be back!

Our family has been visiting the Saugatuck/Douglas, Michigan area most of our life. We hold a million sepia-colored memories in our heads. As Chicagolanders, we escape suburbia for the dunes, beaches, and woodlands of the Lake Michigan shoreline every chance we get.

We enjoy the area so much that I thought others should too. At a time when the town was still quiet and homey, I started on a journey of building true vacation destinations that are unique from anything you would find in suburbia, true cabins that drive relaxation and escape.

With no appetite for owning or managing rundown, churn-n-burn properties, we prefer to focus on high-end vacation homes with incredible amenities. In order to deliver value to our guests, the properties themselves became more than places to stay, they became experiences. Providing an experience is a combination of a unique property, different than anything our guests have at home, quality in-house amenities, unique exterior amenities such as location, and on-property activities such as jacuzzi, pools, and fire features. Finally, the experience is topped off with special treatment and high-attention from the management company (quite literally, us).

Someone once told me, “After kids, you don’t go on vacation. You visit places.” I didn’t want that for Lakewood Lux. I wanted to make each property family-friendly with the comforts of home. We splurge on high-end items like kitchen appliances, pots and pans, serveware, linens and towels to ensure a guest experience that is like or better than home. Then, we make sure all the amenities are maintained by professionals. Folks work hard to earn their vacations, and I wanted to ensure their visits were pleasantly clean, comfortable, and fun, because that’s what I would want.
