Lake Michigan cottage private beach access, season begins May 1
Charming, quaint Lake Michigan cottage with private beach access. Located in Ganges township on scenic Lakeshore Drive in a lovely wooded setting just 100 yards from Lake Michigan. The resort village of South Haven is 12 miles to the south and Saugatuck/Douglas 7 miles to the north. Available for rent May through October. Please check calendar for minimum nights required. The cottage is approximately 800 Square feet with a 8x10 deck, perfect for a couple or a small family. There is a large living area with peaked wood plank ceiling ,kitchen, bath and 2 bedrooms that sleep a maximum of 4. All linens except beach towels are furnished. There is a wall furnace and a new 15,000 btu window air conditioner in the LR area. Wi-Fi and cable TV are available. An easy stroll down a gravel path takes you to stairs that access the beach. There are two stairway options, stone steps to a lower deck and then on to the beach or easier wooden stairs to the north of the stone steps. See photos of both. Just to the south of us is West Side County Park and to the north more private beach. Our beach is marked private property though Michigan law does permit "shore walkers." Please note the private beach is shared with the owners ( two old retired folks) and our family. After several years of high water on Lake Michigan the Lake levels are lower and we are again blessed with a great wide beach! We do provide beach chairs and umbrella.
The Saugatuck/Douglas and South Haven area has many choices for dining, shopping, boating, golfing, theater and other vacation and cultural activities.

We enjoyed our week long stay. Cottage had a lot of space for our family of 3 and is a short walk to the beach and playground. Beach was sandy and great for swimming. Great location for seeing the sights around saugatuck and South Haven!
Charming, cozy cottage with a beautiful private beach on Lake Michigan. Nicely decorated, very clean, comfortable beds. The kitchen has everything you could need. The hosts were very welcoming - they greeted us & even had the lights on for us when we arrived! They have TV, internet & Wifi which my grandson enjoyed in the evening. Close to Saugatuck & lots of fun things to do. We loved the cottage & our stay there and hope to come back!
My wife and I stayed for a couple nights in this comfortable family cottage. A great place to stay to visit Saugatuck and South Haven. Orchards, bakeries, and wineries are easily accessed from here. Having a private beach area is a plus. The hosts live close by and are very accommodating.
This is a beautiful stay. Just a 1-2 minute walk from the beach. It has very pleasant surrounding forestry, was peaceful and quiet. The home was very clean and had a true cottage vibe to it. Would love to return in the future.
This was exactly what I needed. The rental was as listed and amazing. The lake was wonderful. The cabin was great. And the air conditioning worked wonderfully. It was cozy, quiet, and relaxing. Will definitely be back.
My friends and I stayed the weekend for my bachelorette party, and this was the perfect spot! Right in between Saugatuk and South Haven, and just a short walk to the lake! We loved the cabin and was the perfect size for the 5 of us.
Stayed Memorial Weekend with my daughter's. We loved the cottage! There was plenty of room for the four of us. It was very clean. The kitchen and bathroom were well equipped with everything we needed. The cute yellow cottage, trees surrounding it, and the stairs to the beach gave a whimsical feel to the area. Beautiful sandy Beach that you can walk for a long ways. We would definitely come back.
House was clean very well stocked kitchen and bathroom. Property location is great easy drive to Saugatuck,Holland, and south Haven. So wonderful to have the beach right there spent a lot of time there walking and searching for sea glass. My kids want to go back!
We had a relaxing stay despite the rain and gale force winds! But we worked on some puzzles and did get a break in the weather to head down to the beach. I would love to go again in the Summer-time!
The cottage was so cozy. Everything we needed. So many things to do in the area. I loverd it and so did my grandkids ages 10 and 6! Have been there before and will be back
The entire experience was great! The people were very friendly and had many conversations with beach goers to rock collectors and friendly neighbors. From South Haven to Saugatuck and everything in between. We were able to see the full moon over the lake and the view was spectacular.
Our stay was just what we had hoped for. We enjoyed the tasteful decorations in the cottage, the black squirrels who entertained us, the tall trees that surrounded us. Walking the beach and listening to the waves was a real treat. Very relaxing. We hope to return one day

About the host
Hosted by Marsha Burd
Steve and Marsha in 1979 moved "back" to Michigan where we first met in 1970. We were thrilled to buy the property that was once owned by Steve's Grandfather which included our home and our rental cottage. We have rented the cottage for over 40 years and it has been a delight to meet the hundreds of vacationers that have rented our property over the years. The cottage has seen many updates since the beginning when it was truly rustic. Many of our weeks are booked a year ahead of time by the all our "returnees." We hope that you too can start to make many memories at "Burd's Cottage."
