River Watch is a riverfront two story home on the banks of the Cheat River in Macomber, WV. River Watch is on the Cheat River Water Trail, which runs from Hendricks, WV to Rowlesburg, WV.. This part of the Cheat River is a gentle section of the river, safe enough for beginning paddlers with kayaks, canoes, paddle boards or rafts, which winds through some of the most beautiful country in W.Va. The house has three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a modern open floor plan combining kitchen and living room. River Watch also has decks around the entire house with a privacy deck below to watch the river and wildlife, there is also an outside shower. It also has a full basement garage, with washer, dryer and beverage fridge. There is approx. 1 acre of yard and 150' of river frontage. There is also a takeout for paddlers right in front of the house.
Centrally located in the Potomac Highlands, River Watch is 35 minutes from Thomas/Davis/Blackwater Falls, 30 minutes from the Wisp Ski Resort,45 minutes from Timberline Ski Resort,25 minutes from Oakland MD, 10 minutes from Cathedral State Park.
For all it's convenience however, River Watch is all about the Cheat River. There are multiple floats and shuttles close to River Watch, with two outfitters Blackwater Outdoor Adventures in St. George is just 15 minutes away and offers equipment rentals and shuttles. Cheat River Trips is located behind the River View Lounge, 1/4 mile down the road form River Watch and offers equipment rentals and shuttles also.

This was one of my favorites visits to this area. The river access was my favorite and took my breathe away. Very cute house that is very clean and easy to check into. We will likely try to stay here again in the future!

Peaceful and Relaxing

We loved being right on the water and the quiet and peaceful area. We kayaked near by which was a highlight. The kids love the ice cream at cool springs park right up the road. We plan to come every year!

Mid December Stay

A group of us came down to WV to go hunting and we stayed at the River Watch during our trip. One of the best things about the house was the large open basement to keep all of our gear. It made it nice to not have to worry if we were going to get the upstairs dirty while also saving a lot of space upstairs. The house was great and the location worked well for us.

Peaceful, cozy home away from home on the River

We couldn’t of asked for a cozier home on our holiday getaway. The home was very clean, well stocked, and in order. I love the set up and beautiful river views and will be booking here again. So happy we got to wake up to snow. My sons did a little fishing but the river was a bit high due to melting snow. Conveniently There are small stores within 15 mins. Highly recommend for couples or family getaways. Wish we could of stayed longer :)

Very nice property. Kitchen was very well appointed, and all rooms were so cute and clean. Decks were great for just sitting and soaking in your surroundings. Worth going.... unbelievably beautiful area!

Enjoyed our stay

We had a nice time at Riverwatch. It was a cute property. The view of the river and mountain was great. It was a nice place to get away to. But with an infant and a 10 year old there wasn't really a whole lot to do locally. But would definitely be great with a group of friends and grille and just enjoy the location. If you enjoy kayaking it would be a great place. May definitely look into going back just my husband and I in warmer weather. Rex was really quick with responding and ready to help with any questions we had. Check in was also super easy. Beds were comfortable and the place was clean. Some very pretty mountain areas around to drive and check out.

Relaxing stay.

Lovely home, beautiful views. So peaceful and quiet. Bought stuff for a blender but there wasn't one. Rocking chair in living room is missing screws. (Not usable) Besides that no complaints. We absolutely loved it. Just for informational purposes the water pressure in the showers are low but do the job. Also bring bug spray for mosquitoes. The fireflies at night are amazing! Also the people in town are friendly. Shout out to Ron and Kieth at the boat/ kayak rentals. Very accommodating. We would definitely do it again.

A great get away

Due to a recent busy schedule, I was looking forward to a nice get away for quite some time. Rex's rental looked like a great choice. Even before the trip he was great with communication, often responding to my inquiries within a only a few minutes. He gave great suggestions. I'll admit that this rental on the river would be fantastic during the summer months. The river isn't a small creek as some rivers are described. This is an actual wide river with a beautiful flow from the mountains. If you get up close to it, you can hear the movement of water. Unfortunately, the weather was mostly chilly with a lot of precipitation during my stay. Most of my experience of the rental was indoors. Pros: - Wonderful location on the river. - Quiet neighborhood - Small town vibes - Wifi worked well the entire time for streaming movies - Appliances all worked well. - Main bathroom had plenty of room. - Being built taller, there was a beautiful view of the river through the sliding glass doors as well as the higher windows seen from the loft. - One of the cleanest VRBOs I've walked into. - FIreplace worked great and actually provided a heat option for the main room. - On the one day it didn't precipitate, the sunset was gorgeous over the mountain by the river. - Accurate description of VRBO rental. Cons: - I thought perhaps with it being early enough in the year, the bugs wouldn't be out yet, but we were met with a cacophony of beetles, a few wasps, and other bugs. Most were outside, but a few found their way inside including an unfortunate spider in the bed one night. Luckily I spotted it before getting into the bed. - While the wrap around porch is gorgeous, being stuck inside was not the greatest. The main couch wasn't the most comfortable. The beds weren't too bad. - On a trip to Walmart I had to purchase paper products that are often commonly provided in VRBO rentals (tissues and paper towels). I was grateful that there were ziploc bags, but I also had to purchase aluminum foil. -A bit closer to the neighbors on either side than I first had anticipated. Overall: Rex did a great job preparing this rental for VRBO. If you're looking for a nice warm-weather rental for a few folks with an excellent deck, this is the rental for you!

Another fantastic stay at Riverwatch. This spot has become my go-to for long weekend getaways with my favorite people. Enjoying great meals from a fully stocked kitchen. Lounging, fishing, or paddling around in the river. Winding down by the fire at night. It doesn’t get better.

Good time

The house has everything you need and then some. We enjoyed floating the river. We had 2 vehicles and our own tubes. Start at the bridge and float to the house or start at the house and float to the park. Either way you’ll have a blast. Then enjoy a bonfire and roast some marshmallows.

Clean, cozy river house. Stayed here several times and it’s better each time. We got surprised by the Northern Lights and a meteor shower this trip. Fantastic. Good fishing, great relaxation. Highly recommend.

Great weekend get-a-way

The home has amazing views right on the river and is extremely peaceful. It’s a great retreat away from everyday busy life. This is our third year in a row staying at this property and will continue to make it an annual event. I had to contact the host during our stay and he got back to me immediately and even contacted the next door neighbor to check local conditions for us.

My wife and I run a small house rental LLC. We had been looking for some time for property on the Cheat River. We have spent many summers paddling on this part of the Cheat River from Hendricks all the way to Macomber.River Watch became available in the fall of 2020. After purchasing the house we worked all summer of 2021 to get the house into the rental friendly river house that you see today. We also have a VRBO rental in Thomas WV ,( Westwood VRBO # 1919553). We look forward to making Rivwer Watch an important part of our LLC and working with our future guests to enjoy this special place.

Why they chose this property

It's location on the Cheat River is near the end of the Cheat River Water Trail. This part of the Cheat River runs through very scenic country and can be enjoyed by most any level of paddler. With an easy gradient from Hendricks to Rowlesburg this river is huge resource for our area and WV. It's just the best paddling with clean clear water and good fishing also. There are two outfitters in the area where you can rent equipemtn, canoes. kayaks or paddle boards.

What makes this property unique

If your into paddling or fishing or just enjoying nature in general, this area is hard to beat.
There are two outfitters in the area who can do shuttles up and down the river for different length of floats, or you can do it yourself. Paddlers need to bring their own equipment as River Watch does not rent canoes, kayaks or paddle boards. But the can be rented from Blackwater Outdoor adventures in St. Geoge or Cheat trips, right up the road from River Watch.
