At the foot of the Truchas Peaks and on the high road to Taos, lies the village of Truchas. Our mountain home is located about 2 miles from the village at the end of a county road and has been in our family for 25 years. A portion of the home is adobe and was constructed in the early 1900's. In 2000, the home was renovated and remodeled with room additions. The location is very private and quiet. There is a full kitchen, wifi, two internet tv's, washer and dryer and a bbq grill. On chilly evenings and early mornings, there is a kiva fireplace to add to the ambience of your stay. The Village was founded in the year 1754. There are many decendents of the original families who live here, farm the land, raise cattle and horses and are stewards of this land. There are also many artisans who live and work in the village. Santa Fe, Taos and Los Alamos are all approximately one hour drive from here. Enjoy snow skiing at Sipapu, Santa Fe Ski and Taos Ski Valley, all about one and one-half hour distance. Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs is also one hour away. Relax and unwind in this peaceful setting. Breathe in the clean mountain air, see the stars at night and enjoy all of the beauty that surrounds you. Please be reminded, one of our policies is "No Pets Allowed". This older adobe home is located in a very remote area of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range at 8000 elevation. We encounter field mice, rats, moles, chipmunks, squirrels, skunk, raccoons, bobcat, coyote, deer and elk, mountain lion and bears. We have seen all of these animals near and around our homes. We do contract with a local pest control company to help us mitigate the rodents and they conduct monthly checkups and bait the exterior and interior boxes.

The beautifully curated home is located in a charming community not too far from the hustle and bustle of Santa Fe or Taos. The home is spacious and the hosts provide the basic (and even more) necessities for rooming and boarding.
Thank you for a wonderful stay in your beautiful vacation home. It was very peaceful, and we thoroughly enjoyed the patio, garden flowers, and hummingbirds! The beds were so comfy, and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals. We were so blessed to relax there. Thank you!
Absolutely gorgeous views and relaxing surroundings. Hiked around Carson Nat’l. Forest and had an overall lovely stay. Property owner was attentive when needed without being overwhelming. The home is warm, well appointed and full of fun, interesting, cultural treasures.
My children (22,20,16) rented this house for Christmas instead of buying gifts. The house and surrounding landscape is beautiful! It’s a short drive to Santa Fe and Albuquerque is just a but farther. We loved it so much we stayed an extra night! Highly recommend!
This place was amazing. We would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to escape for a romantic get away. It was private, quiet and absolutely beautiful inside and out. The master bed was super cozy and warm. The decor was museum like and we never tired of looking at the many very pretty and cool items throughout. We would very much like to return one day. Thank you Vicki.

Thank you Joel for booking your stay in our home. And for the very nice review.
This home and property are beyond what any online photos can give them credit for. The house was immaculate and so beautiful. There was such lovely art work and decor and the kitchen was fully stocked and awesome. The outdoor area was spectacular with incredible views and a restful sitting area. We loved this place so much that we’re already talking about our next trip there!
Come in October. The fall color in the area is beautiful. The location is convenient to the Albuquerque Int. Balloon Festival.
The house is secluded and does not have other cabins/ guests "on top of you". The property managers were very pleasant and helpful. I recommend this rental.
We really enjoyed this retreat home tucked into the Truchas country-side. House was filled with collections representative of local artisans and culture. It felt a bit like a museum, hence our name for it! While it was a bit of a drive to Santa Fe, the peace and quiet, the space was well worth it, and we felt fortunate to be able to spend a week in this lovely home.
This house is a museum of Native American art and Antiques
Truchas is about an hour's drive away from Santa Fe, Taos and Los Alamos. So if you want to visit all 3, this is a perfect location. The house was as pictured and a perfect getaway for my husband and I. Wild life bonus: Hummingbirds at the feeder were so fun to watch. Also saw a rabbit and a tiny lizard. Great fun! Hostess was very responsive.
This is a unique, adobe-style home with amazing southwest decor and history. The home is well-stocked, and the mountain location is beautiful and secluded. As such, definitely plan on first arriving during daylight. Roads are winding, at times narrow, and may have little cell reception until you get to the town. I would rate the home as satisfactory or surface-level clean (kitchen, sheets, and toilet were perfectly clean). As it's in a rural setting, there was evidence the hosts are continuing to work on controlling pests.
The home had a beautiful view. It was approximately 35 minutes from Santa Fe. The environment was very rustic and peaceful.
The home has stairs to the upstairs bedroom and bathroom. It has steps to other rooms in the house so if you have mobility issues you might rethink the property. However it was beautiful and worked well for our stay, there is an amazing restaurant as you come off the mountain a must try, can’t remember name but the only one there.
My husband and I recently stayed for a long weekend. The house was beautifully decorated and perfectly secluded for us. While was nice to be secluded, It was also nice to be within an hour of Santa Fe, Taos, and Angel fire. Perfect location for lots of easy day trips. My favorite thing about the home was the beautiful porch. I spent hours watching the hummingbirds and smelling the roses. It was perfect to enjoy the mountain view while having my morning coffee. Victoria was very responsive and a great hostess. Would definitely stay here again.
Words cannot express this home! The pictures did not do it justice. Every detail was prestine. It was spacious, the most comfortable matresses and heated blankets. The authentic New Mexican design with modern amenities. I would give it more stars if I could. Right in the middle of Taos and Santa Fe. Perfect VBRO if you are skiing at Sipapu. I would rent this home without my family just to spend a week in serenity.
The place is beautiful. If you have problems with mobility I would not recommend this place. It is an old beautiful home with so much Character. The host Vicki was quick to address the Wi-Fi problem as quickly as possible. I was able to get on my work meeting after she added the mobile device. I give this place a 3 for cleanliness as there are areas that need to be tended to" plants, floors and carpet. Overall, it was a beautiful place in the mountains. Just be prepared for a long drive to reach a place that is remote and beautiful. We loved the Kiva fireplace and the wood that was available. We also loved the porches on both sides. Michele
A group of four 60+ aged friends stayed for a week in early May. The cabin is at the end of a small county road and is beautifully appointed and decorated. It has convenient outdoor sitting areas in several locations. One bedroom is upstairs, and uneven flooring and step-ups can be challenging for mobility impaired persons.
The hosts are very friendly and responsive. The cabin is equipped for comfort and convenience. It is located approximately halfway between Santa Fe and Taos. If you’re seeking a lovely place that is quiet with great local scenery, this is your spot! Wi-fi and Internet Tv keep you connected!
I would strongly recommend this rental to anyone seeking a peaceful stay with convenient reach to other northern NM locales.

Three Senior Citizens in the Mountains
The overall setting and house was amazing, but the three of us there were 75 years old. The steps, for example, to the back bedroom were not easy to negotiate. No railing on the stairs to the second floor was not great. Maybe that should be amended or stated in the description.
The view was incredible, but the only thing we found open in "the village" was the post office. Maybe more details about this...we drove to Santa Fe to shop for groceries.
Also, this is just my personal opinion, but I feel that Bev's personal cards and daily logs should be removed...just out of courtesy for her privacy.
Loved being close to Chimayo...beautiful experience.
It was, for me, an overall memorable trip. Thank you for sharing Bev's former home with us. I Googled her obituary on the way home...sounded like an incredible lady.

Thanks for staying.
I’ll amend our description of the property to better accommodate the elderly.
This was a walk back in time in a place that only exists in fairy tales. Imagine a home built by hand that houses a collection of irreplaceable southwest art. Get to know this place that is totally peaceful, surrounded by the peaks of the Sangre de Cristos. This is no ordinary home - this is special.
Beautiful old but very inviting home filled with curios and cultural artifacts. A bit remote but peaceful with lovely night skies. Within an hour's drive of skiing, Bandolier, and other hiking. Hosts get A+ for welcome and responsiveness!
