We had a great stay overall at a beautiful location. There were some issues with maintenance of the property that I mentioned to the owner and cleaners, and they planned to address. The pool is spectacular, and the location fantastic. The house needs some TLC, but we enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful place filled with charm

We had a very nice stay in early summer. Very nice place with a ton of different rooms. A nice older place with lots of charm and unique nooks and crannies. Owner was very responsive when we had some very small issues. Pool was nice and location was wonderful! Would definitely stay again

This is a great property especially for a large family or group of friends. We had 3 generations spread out in the large property. The pool was a real plus. We spent half our time in the ocean and half in the pool. It is very private and very scenic.

House in disrepair. Safety issues. Windows nailed shut, missing screens, broken screens, unstable entry way to the house and pool, only 3 A/C for a 5 bedroom (can't open windows). One ceiling fan broken and one missing. Kitchen poorly stocked, very little kitchen utensils, Screen doors were duck taped. Pool railing unstable. Really hot the week we stayed and very stressful with young children. We would have left but we had family and friends fly in for the vacation. Had we not, we would have left The pool it self was wonderful. The physical property it self was nice. Deer eating on the property at evening. The parking pass to the town beach was great. Wonderful town breach

Mixed Experience, But Appreciated Owner's ResponseI recently stayed at this property and had a mixed experience. While the place has potential and matched the description in many ways, there were a few issues that affected our stay. There were some maintenance and cleanliness concerns that made things less comfortable than expected. It wasn't anything extreme, but definitely noticeable enough to impact our experience. That said, I really appreciated how the owner handled the situation. After I brought the concerns to her attention, she responded quickly and addressed the concerns in a fair and respectful way. It’s clear she cares about guest feedback and wants to do the right thing. With a little more attention to detail, this place could be a great stay. I’d consider giving it another try in the future based on how well the owner handled things.

In general, the property met our needs well. It had a large common area that allowed for gathering with family and several additional gathering spaces. The beds were comfortable and there were plentiful linens and towels. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped and the dining area was pleasant. The kids loved the heated pool and, despite the wobbly railing leading to the shallow end, they had an amazing time. All that being said, the property is in serious need of better maintenance. From planters with dead flowers to a front porch taped off as dangerous to garbage/recycles not emptied before our visit to linens left in the dryer to front porch weather stripping pulled away to a full day not being able to use the pool as the heater had failed to function and multiple other issues, it was apparent that more care needed to be paid to the property...and if done, would have made it entirely pleasant. In addition, the advertised game room was a complete disappointment with old, incomplete games, no bocce set , corn hole targets but no bean bags and incomplete puzzles crammed into what is essentially a storage room. Also, note that despite the statement in the listing, only 3 of the 5 bedrooms have air conditioning. We also did have a bit of a run-in with Parsons Beach residents over beach access. All that being said, we did enjoy our stay and would consider renting again if we were assured that improvements had been made to the property and its on-going maintenance.

Convenient to beautiful beach and the Kennebunks

Quirky but convenient home close to Kennebunk and Kennebunkport where we enjoyed kayaking, biking and whale watching with local tour groups. Beach was beautiful and the pool provided a nice alternative to the chilly and sometimes rough ocean.

Location is amazing! Very private, secluded, and a lovely walk to a very private beach. Also close to Kennebunkport and a Ogunquit. Convenient to stores as well. House was spacious. We especially enjoyed all of the outdoor space. Screened porch is a nice bonus, and the pool was enjoyed by all.

Lovely house near the beach

We spent a wonderful week in the house. It is in a beautiful area of Maine--within a half-mile walk or drive from the beach. Everyone enjoyed the heated pool. The kitchen was well equipped for our group of 6. We are looking forward to coming back and staying at this house again.

Beautiful setting, close to wonderful beach

The family--6 adults, 2 girls--came back in July this year for another two weeks at Helen's wonderful property, which tells you how much we appreciate it. We love the heated pool, the game room with its ping pong table (which inspired a family tournament), and the proximity to Parsons Beach. It is a quiet and peaceful place but close to good restaurants and fun activities and interesting nature walks, and Helen could not be a more caring or welcoming host.

Perfect Family Spot

The house is the perfect size for a family. We had plenty of space and enjoyed the game room, heated pool and short distance to the beach. The property was beautiful (minus the construction next door). Definitely bring bug spray, due to the wet weather the mosquitos were everywhere! Thank you Helen for sharing your house! It was a wonderful family vacation!

Perfect Family Vacation!

My wife, four adult daughters, one son-in-law, one daughter’s boyfriend, and our 4-day-old first grandchild stayed at the Blue Heron last week while in Kennebunk to attend my niece‘s wedding, which took place on the beach a mere 5-minute walk from where we were staying. The house, its amenities, gorgeous views, and proximity to the beautiful private beach made for a perfect family vacation. Helen was an extremely gracious and responsive hostess who provided many great recommendations and historical tidbits about the house. I would highly recommend staying at this property. Our family had a FANTASTIC time!

Great location!

The highlight of this house is the location-It’s beautiful and close to beaches. The house is certainly different but very functional. We all agreed the beds are very comfy, having two kitchens was a treat, excellent washer dryer, dishwasher, and lots of outside spots to hang out. Helen is very easy to reach if you have questions or concerns. Some parts of house could use some TLC, but the location is a 10 plus.

Wonderful home- close to the beach- great pool too.

We had such a wonderful time at this house- very large enough for our party of 8 and has a great funky vibe. The pool is so relaxing, there are at least 5 separate decks to catch the sun and it is a short drive (with your own parking space) to a very private beach. Parsons beach is truly one of a kind- never crowded, very wide, especially at low tide, and quite enjoyable. We had the quintessential Maine experience with lobster rolls and enjoyed the quaint Kennebunkport town. We would definitely return as Helen was the perfect host. Thank you for a truly enjoyable vacation!!

The Farmhouse was enjoyable and very roomy

When driving there we came in the back way and found the front way later. Walking into the house was the stairway going upstairs. the kids loved it so they had the 2 rooms and and bath. the rest of the house was delightful and cozy and loved the view and the pool and the beach was not what we from the south are used to but it was relaxing. I reccomend this house for large families..

Wonderful Maine Experience

The house was perfect for a group of five that ranged in ages from 8 to 83. The house has so many different rooms we hardly had time to explore them all. It offers the best of two worlds — a heated pool to swim and an amazing beach to explore. We rarely left the property but Kennebunk and Kennebunkport are just moments away for take out and exploring. Helen was easy to communicate with and provided lots of information on the house and things to do. Great experience!

Marsh, Beach, Kennebunk!

A wonderful two-week stay for family--6 adults, 2 kids. Beautiful quiet setting down a private road but close to diverse range of activities and great restaurants. Short walk to amazing wide sandy beach that is often empty. Good grill. Lovely pool. Good Wifi. House provides enough space for privacy but also has a good-sized living room for gathering and playing cards or doing jigsaw puzzles. The back deck is a great spot for looking out over the marsh and watching the birds and other wild life. Helen, the owner, could not be more welcoming or helpful.

About the host

Host profile image
I spent vacations here as a child and my children grew up here. We have always appreciated a deep connection with the nature it offers. Our property is relatively quiet. Deer, turkeys and the occasional fox inhabit it. We all enjoyed being surrounded with meadows, woods, salt water and fresh water swimming, ping pong, indoor games and many outdoor games and activities.

My favorite part of being a hostess is seeing the expressions on my guests's faces when they enter the living room and see the view. In a second, they are delighted and at home.

Why they chose this property

My mother's grandfather moved here from Alfred, Maine, in 1890. It is said our two beaches comprise the longest stretch of ‘undeveloped’ shoreline on the East Coast. Crescent Surf is so isolated, the U.S. Military stationed here during W.W.II. scaring my mother one time when she came out from swimming in the ocean.

I moved here in 1978 with my two sons after I inherited the Farm with its large acreage. I wanted my children to grow up with the wonders of Parsons Beach, nature and the excellent schools of Kennebunk.

What makes this property unique

Col. Hart received the land between Little River and Mousam River as an acknowledgment of his contribution to the War of Independence. He chose the hill where my house sits for his home, farmed the fields and hayed the marsh. His descendants sold their homestead to my great-grandfather in 1890.

You can know you frequented the same beach as George W.H.Bush and Cole Porter. George during the last few years of his administration when he jogged it during the off season and Cole while he and my cousin were roommates at university and they visited here at my Aunt's.
