About this property

Escape to the Wilderness at Mt Massive Lodge

License # 2024-107
Sitting on 4 private acres, overlooking the Arkansas River Valley at the base of the highest peaks in the American Rockies sits Mt Massive Lodge. Bring your family and friends and experience the true Colorado wilderness. Whether you’re hiking, biking, fishing or rafting, this area has summer activities for everyone. Hike 14ers? Easily access Elbert, Massive, La Plata & Harvard trail heads within a short drive. Make Mt Massive Lodge your home base for adventure this summer! For relaxation, soak in one of the nearby hot springs, stargaze and take in the milky way or observe local wildlife from the expansive 2nd level deck.
Mt Massive Lodge sits adjacent to an immense and remote wilderness. Leadville is 20 miles to the north and Buena Vista is 25 miles to the south. We recommend guests purchase food and supplies on your way in as you pass through one of these communities.

Pets - We only allow dogs. Sorry no cats or exotic animals allowed. If you are bringing a dog you must disclose this prior to your visit. Pet fee is $150 (2) dogs max. Pets strictly not allowed on furniture or beds. Additional fines will be assessed for those who don't comply.

Storms/Winter Driving Conditions (Nov.-April) -

No refunds will be given for storms and/or road closures. Mountain roads are maintained and plowed but we cannot control weather related delays or road closures. We highly recommend hAWD/4WD. The final mile to Mt Massive Lodge is a gravel road that is plowed by one of the local residents when 4 or more inches of snow falls. He also plows the driveway. Plan accordingly and be sure to pay attention to the local and regional weather. We will not be held responsible for any delays, cancellations or lack of access due to road conditions and/or weather related delays. Take note of road conditions prior to traveling.

Beautiful mountain retreat
The open spacious floor plan was very inviting. The arrangement of furniture encouraged gathering together and talking. The kitchen was very well stocked with lots of pots and saucepans and with everything needed for cooking. I loved how they had lots of information and maps of the surrounding area. The books on hikes were very helpful…loved the place

Leadville 100 staging ground and getaway
Mt Massive Lodge was the PERFECT place to stay and use as our home base for the Leadville 100. Fast and easy access to Twin Lakes, an easy drive to Outward Bound and Leadville proper - plenty of space, clean, comfortable and in excellent condition. With the bonus of beautiful morning and evening views of Buffalo Peaks Wilderness, we certainly hope to stay here again in the future.

A Lovely Place to Stay
My two adult sons and I came up to the Twin Lakes area for a couple days of alpine hiking. This property was clean, expansive and wonderfully quiet. The large wraparound porch was especially nice. The owners were responsive and helpful.

My partner and I are RN's who work in Denver and love to recreate in the Mtns

Why they chose this property

Our property sits just outside of the small historic community of Twin Lakes. We are a short 2.5 mile drive down the hill to Twin lakes recreation area. From here you can relax, take a stroll along the beach, venture out on one of the local hikes or bring your boat and cruise the lakes (seasonal). Mt Massive lodge is nestled in the middle of 4 private, wooded acres. Relax by the outdoor fire pit or warm up inside by the pellet stove. Inside you’ll have 2 different living areas, each with Direct TV and HBO. We also have several puzzles, board games and cards to enjoy with friends and family. Due to the remote location we only get satellite internet which does not allow for streaming. While visiting the upper portion of the Arkansas River Valley, we encourage our guest to get out and explore this picturesque region of Colorado. Seasonal activities include but are not limited to - Rafting/Kayaking, Fishing, Hiking, Mtn Biking, Skiing, Snowmobiling, Snowshoeing, Hot Springing, Leaf peeping
