The Hilltop Suite — Mt Massive Views | Pet OK | EV Charger | Sleeps 4
Summary:
The Hilltop Suite is a modern 2-bedroom condo perched on Leadville's hilltop with framed views of Mt Massive and Mt Elbert — Colorado's two tallest peaks. Four blocks to Main Street, fenced yard for the dog, EV charger out front, and a stand-up desk for the morning emails before you head to the trailhead.
Listed with @BookTraverse.
What makes it work:
- Mt Massive + Mt Elbert views from the living room
- 4 blocks (≈ 5 min walk) to downtown Leadville restaurants and shops
- Pet-friendly with a gated yard and a doggy door
- Tesla / EV charger on-site
- Self check-in via smart lock — arrive any time
- Electric fireplace, fully stocked kitchen, Smart TVs with Netflix + HBO
- Stand-up desk + reliable WiFi for remote workers
Sleeps 4 across two queen bedrooms with one shared bathroom. Part of a small triplex — quiet hours 10 PM–8 AM out of respect for neighbors above.
» 4 blocks ➔ Downtown Leadville
» 12 min ➔ Turquoise Lake
» 25 min ➔ Copper Mountain
» 26 min ➔ Mt Elbert Trailhead
» 47 min ➔ Vail Ski Resort
The Space:
The Hilltop Suite is the lower unit of a quiet triplex on Leadville's west hill. The two bedrooms share one full bathroom, and the open living/kitchen/dining sits behind big windows that frame the Mt Massive range — the same view you'd pay for at a five-star lodge two valleys over.
3 Pros / 2 Cons (we believe in honest expectations):
+ The view. It's the reason this place exists — Mt Massive frames the front window like a postcard.
+ Walkable to everything in Leadville's downtown — restaurants, the brewery, the bookstore, the historic mining district.
+ Pet setup is real — gated yard, doggy door, no song and dance.
− No A/C. Leadville sits at 10,152 ft and rarely needs it; the windows do the work.
− Wide steps lead down to the unit. Manageable but not step-free, and the unit upstairs (Hilltop Haven) does have stairs.
Guest Access:
You have the entire 2-bedroom lower unit, the fenced yard, and on-site parking. Self check-in via smart lock — your code is sent the day of arrival.
The Hilltop Suite is the lower unit of a small triplex. There is a separate 1-bedroom unit next door and a 3-bedroom home (the Hilltop Haven) above. You will not have access to those units, the owner's closet, or the upstairs hot tub.
After booking you'll receive an email with a link to our digital guidebook — that's where check-in details, the door code, and the WiFi password live. (The guidebook also handles pet fees and any add-ons.)
Wide steps lead down to the unit. Manageable for most guests but not step-free.
The Neighborhood:
You're four blocks from downtown Leadville's Main Street — restaurants, the brewery, the bookstore, the mining museum, and the start of the Mineral Belt Trail. Leadville is North America's highest incorporated city (10,152 ft) and a quintessential Victorian mining town: walkable, lived-in, and surrounded by the highest peaks in the Rockies.
The Hilltop Suite sits directly on the Leadville Race Series 100-mile bike and run course — a perk for athletes, a fun curiosity for everyone else.
Within walking distance: Main Street restaurants, the brewery, the mining museum, the Mineral Belt Trail trailhead.
Within a short drive:
- Ski Cooper (~25 min) — family-friendly, no-lift-line skiing
- Keystone, Breckenridge, Beaver Creek — all within an easy day trip
Year-round activities: skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice skating, Nordic skiing on the Mineral Belt Trail, mountain biking, hiking, climbing, fishing, hunting, four-wheeling (including Mosquito Pass at 13,186 ft — the highest vehicular road in the U.S.), exploring ghost towns, walking tours of the Victorian district.
Getting Around:
You'll want a car. Leadville sits roughly 2 hours from Denver International Airport (~110 mi) and 1 hour from Eagle County Airport (~50 mi); both are straightforward drives. Free on-site parking at the Suite — no meters, no garages.
Once you're here, downtown Leadville is a 5-minute walk and most trailheads, ski areas, and lakes are within a 30-minute drive. There is no rideshare reliability in Leadville — Uber/Lyft are not a backup plan.
Tesla / EV drivers: there's a charger on-site (Tesla connector). Mention it when you book if you'd like to confirm availability.
Winter driving note: Highway 24 is plowed and well-maintained, but a 4WD/AWD vehicle with proper tires is strongly recommended December through April.
- No A/C. Leadville rarely needs it — open windows do the work even in July.
- Altitude is real. Leadville is 10,152 ft. Hydrate, take it easy day one, and consider travel insurance if you're prone to altitude sickness — we can't refund altitude-related early checkouts.
- Quiet hours 10 PM–8 AM. There are neighbors above; please be considerate.
- Pets: $60 pet fee, 2 pets max. Pets cannot be left unattended at the property — there are local doggy daycare options if you need them.
- Mountain wildlife: occasional small critters and insects come with the territory. Keep doors closed and you won't notice them.
- Wide steps down to the unit. Manageable for most guests but not step-free.
Interaction with Guests:
The Traverse Hospitality team is a phone call or message away from arrival to checkout — usually within an hour during business hours, faster if it's urgent. We're local, we know the area, and we'd rather give you a real recommendation than a list of links.
Otherwise we stay out of your way. No drop-ins, no surprise visits.

Thank you for the great review! We’re glad the location and amenities—especially the EV charger—helped make your trip easy. We’d love to host you again!
The place was clean and worked well for our small family of 3. It was truly pet friendly with the dog door that let out to a small fenced area. The only complaint was the couch was very uncomfortable, which made it hard to relax after a long day.
Excellent place to stay for Leadville adventures. Great host - we really appreciated the proactive communication.

Hi Joseph, Thank you for your kind words! We're thrilled that you had an excellent stay for your Leadville adventures and appreciated our proactive communication. Your feedback means a lot to us. If you plan more adventures, we'd love to host you again!
It was very clean and had kitchen supplies we needed. The beds were comfortable. The stairs down to the door and the area around were ungroomed, and the couch was very uncomfortable to sit on or watch TV. No games or cards were provided. The explanation of which apartment you rented on the bottom level was unclear. Maybe it should have a number or a sign on the door to know which one you rented. The weather was such a plus to get out of the heat in Denver area. It was in the 60's or low 70's.

Hi John,
Thanks for the helpful feedback! I’m glad you enjoyed the clean space, comfy beds, and the cooler weather. I really appreciate your notes about the stairs, signage, and amenities. Thanks again for staying with us!
The place was adorable! Everything was clean and the location was perfect. There were only 2 things that were worth noting for small complaints. There was no air flow in the apartment making it really warm at night to sleep, we found one fan, but 3-4 may be helpful to get the air moving a bit. All of us didn’t sleep any of the 3 nights that we were so desperate we found sleep aids on the last night to take before bed. Another note is, if there are people staying upstairs they can be LOUD at night. We swore a woman put heels on and started walking circles at 10:30pm every night. Adding rugs upstairs may dampen the noise if guests aren’t taking their shoes off or if they are dropping items on the ground. We were out there hiking and waking up at 4am so it was a long 3 days without sleep, but in the end it was a really fun trip and a lovely stay!

This property was exactly what we needed for our trip up to do some trout fishing at Turquoise Lake. The accommodations were perfect, and we thoroughly enjoyed the central location. Wifi was great! There were Roku TV's in both bedrooms and the Den, allowing us to login to each of our streaming accounts. Beds slept very nice. We would definitely stay again!

The apartment was newly renovated, with updated kitchen, nice furniture, a TV with plenty of channels. But best of all, it was in historic Leadville, with plenty of small museum's, sites related to the history of mining, and some of the best hiking trails in the Rockies!

This place is super cute and has a wonderful view of the mountains! Instructions were easy to follow and great communication by the management team. A few more towels/blankets are recommended, but otherwise everything was great! Loved the electric fireplace too! Nice to come back and relax in front of after a long day!

"Hello Bruce, We appreciate your input. Before you checked out, we were unaware of some of the issues. The issues you did let us know about were taken care of next day. Thank you again for the feedback."
The wife and I wanted to get away from the Front Range for a few days and were very pleastantly surprised by this 2-bedroom little apartment. Everything seemed new and updated - new appliances, Roku TV's in every room (with account access for Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, HBO Max), a computer built into a motorized stand/sit desk, and even a bidet! The fireplace (actually more of a fancy radiator with a color-select log display) kept the place nice and warm and cozy, and the EXCELLENT couch let us snuggle quite cozily while watching TV on the aforementioned Roku (which swivels!).
Check-in was easy, and the location of the apartment is great - excellent views of the mountains beyond, and downtown's main street is less than 10 minutes walk down the street. The unit has a nice big purple LED light outside to help out delivery drivers (which we used instead of visiting restaurants, because COVID).
I will mention one negative item - the beds are both comprised of hard memory foam (think Tempurpedic), and the pillows compress to completely flat when you place your head on them. This, combined with the fact that the walls are super thin and we could hear everything our neighbors were doing, resulted in both of us being unable to sleep - we don't do well on these types of mattresses and were forced to sleep on the couch. The couch, while WONDERFUL for lounging on, was only marginally better for sleeping, so we felt pretty tired both mornings. Just a word of caution to those of you who don't do well with hard mattresses.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, location
Disliked: Communication
All places have pros and cons! Here is my take on the bottom unit of the Hilltop Haven home
PROS - The view of the mountains is absolutely breathtaking! However, the image shown on the listing is from the upstairs unit view. The location is fantastic! The kitchen has everything you need for a long stay. It's missing a pair of scissors though. The beds & mattresses are absolutely wonderful, comfortable, and sturdy. The towels are wonderful & fluffy. The shower pressure was amazing & I loved how much space I had in the shower to put all my products. Each room has its own TV and thermostats, which was very much appreciated. Annette lives next door, she works for HRH. She was very welcoming, friendly, and attentive. While making sure to respect your privacy, she always made herself available for anything needed.
CONS - There are about dozen wide & some steep stairs to get down to the unit. The stairs do not have railing and the space on each step is uneven making is super easy for one to twist an ankle. It is extremely dangerous! No salt or safety provided for when it snows & gets icy on stairs. Upstairs noise is real but it is a hit or miss. The tenants upstairs can be super quiet or the opposite. You do run the risk of people talking loudly late at night, smoking on the balcony, walking on heels at 6am, or running a bath at 5am all which sounds effect is amplified being over you. More hangers & secure knobs on the closets would be helpful. The curtains do not cover the entire window of the main door, which is terribly inconvenient. The windows & main door are not properly sealed making it extremely cold to work at standing up desk. The couch is the world's worst couch. It is essentially a big beanbag in a form of a couch; you end up squatting trying to get up. Dog area is inaccurate in the listing. No doggy door and gated area is a zone full of bushes, large plants, and trees. The most “walkable” space a dog has is possibly a foot, 2 feet tops. High Rocky Homes customer service leaves much to be desired. They make changes to your reservation without your consent after only inquiring of said changes. They call it a courtesy change but when you call them out on their mistake and then truly request a courtesy change, it is not granted. HRH is not big into using the VRBO app, which makes no sense. They want you to download and additional app (DACK) for further instructions and processes, information is not mentioned on the listing. They recommend insurance but it's useless unless someone is extremely ill or there is a natural disaster.

Hi Allie, Thank you for the feedback. We are sorry to hear the home did not meet your expectations. DACK is used as a property guide which includes helpful information about the home and nearby places to eat. It is no longer an app, just a web link making it easier for guests. I did check the communication thread and when you had a question, we responded quickly. It looks like you asked to cancel and be refunded 5 days before your reservation and we stuck to the VRBO policy, which is no refund, as it was not enough notice. Thank you.
My wife and I had a great stay! We worked remotely and had our dog with! Super fast internet and very comfortable!

Newly renovated, cozy, modern apartment with the best view in town!
Stunning view of Mt Elbert and mountains surrounding town of Leadville. Walking distance to downtown. Kitchen had everything you needed. Beds were comfortable memory foam. Smart TVs hooked up to Netflix, prime, etc. Recommend bringing earplugs. You could hear the floor boards squeaking when people walked around upstairs and could hear the echoes of louder conversations. Nothing too bad though.

About the host
Hosted by Traverse Hospitality
We (Alex & Nadim) are grateful to be able to offer an outdoor focused community to our guests up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. We both love rock climbing, hiking, biking, skiing and spending pretty much all of our free time outside; we were even crazy enough to run the Leadville 100. Our mission is to help as many people as possible discover the magic of the mountains...which is why we founded High Rocky Homes!
We're doing our best to make real estate and mountain access more affordable for EVERYONE!
For our real estate clients, we give half of our commission back to our buyers and sellers, saving them an average of $5,000. This helps our clients furnish a new home or simply reduces the high closing costs associated with buying or selling real estate.
For our property management clients, we offer a service that has no restrictive contracts, a lower commission model and superior performance. This means that more booking revenue goes back to our clients to offset the costs of their mountain homes.
For our guests, we've been working hard to offer more lodging accommodations that are clean, affordable, and full of great amenities set up for active people who want to enjoy the mountains for short or longer term stays!
