About susan
Susan, Owen, Ruben and Cat planting new Avocados, 2013. I have a great family(wonderful grandchildren). They all help out at the ranch and love it as I do. We are lucky to have passionate staff to stand alongside. I love the central coast and all the possibilities. I love that the ocean is just over the hill. Some days I can smell the sea..and zip down for a coastal run, kayak, or boogie board. Mostly I love this land and feel honored to have spent my life nurturing it. What a life. My husband Roger and I have been lucky enough to live our dream and raise our family here. Although he has passed we feel his presence everywhere!
susan purchased this Chateau / Country House in 1999
Why susan chose Cayucos
How did we get started in the Vacation Rental business? Our family had been living on Cottontail Creek Road on the Magetti Ranch since 1977. In 1999 when the adjoining property came on the market. We wanted to expand agriculturally which we immediately did by adding more avocados, more cattle and oranges to the ranch. That left the question, what do we do with this extraordinary Cottontail Creek Ranch home built in 1978? Our goal is sustainability and the vacation rental does that as well as fulfills the home's destiny by entertaining tourists from around the world. The house truly combines luxury and homeyness while the views beckon you outdoors. We feel that Cottontail Creek Ranch is the perfect location for sharing this part of old California with others. The byproduct of this has been meeting wonderful people while connecting them to the land.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
'So much to Do or NOT, Close to everything the Central Coast has to offer' is what I tell potential guests. If you choose to venture out and leave the ranch the first wine tasting room is 15 minutes away and the beach is 12 minutes the opposite direction. The climate is moderate with a marine influence without a lot of fog and the extreme heat of inland, ' JUST RIGHT'! Staying at the ranch can be restful and quiet or full of activity, your choice. The location of our home makes it easy for our guests to enjoy the great outdoors without leaving the house, the patios and porches. You can also fill your days with hiking, walking and biking the property then take off for some wine tasting and beach activities or drive to Hearst Castle for a tour and the Big Sur Coast. We share any fruit and vegetables that are ready for harvest. We normally have oranges, lemons and limes all year long. Seasonally we have avocados, herbs and artichokes from the edible landscaping. It is a great to live off the land.

Retreat Comfort
When arriving at the property there was so much to see. The house was fabulous and fully equipped with everything we needed for necessity to fun activities to keep us occupied during our breaks. The bedrooms were all comfortable and the simple touch of carefully selected Christmas decorations made it feel like home. It rained for a couple of days and the sound throughout the house was glorious... Waking up each morning you could see the cattle grazing on the hillside and listening to the moo's back and forth was fascinating. We will definitely come here again hopefully in the spring so we can experience the blooms and other parts of nature.
Thank you for being fabulous guests.
Glad the the ranch and house were everything you had hoped for.
Next time green hills, creeks running, tennis and swimming!!
Merry Christmas to your lovely group

Fantastic location and wonderful host
The description of the property is spot on. However, Susan's warm generous spirit sets this property apart from all others that we have rented. We would highly recommend the CTC Ranch and commend the Cayucos Land Conservency. If it were not for work, we would return in a heart beat.
Short list of the highlights: 12-15 person fire pit for smores' and more, using a "Santa Maria" type grill for the first time and the food tasted fantastic using oak wood, hiking to the fishing pond and watch the kids' excitement of catch and releasing fish with help from a neighbor, late afternoon on the veranda and listening to the cows, feeding chickens and last but not least..the swimming pool. Another insight....the kids did not pick up an ipad for most of the time and played outdoors.
Guests like the Moris make it all worth having people in our home.
The pleasure was mine hosting them and hope they return very soon.
It was great to see the family making use of this special place.
Until next time

Family Vacation at Cottontail Creek Ranch
Our whole family from the grandparents to the grand kids had a great time. There was something to do for everyone - from swimming, hot tubing, hiking, games, movies, tennis to boccie ball! It is only a short distance from the ranch to Hearst's Castle, Piedras Blancas and Cambria. Susan is a wonderful host and her thoughtful added touches made the whole experience wonderful!!
Great family and guests. I hope to see you all back at the ranch soon.
Fun, beautiful place, very accommodating

Fabulous Place for Family Vacation!
First of all, Susan was a wonderful host, she always answered my emails and phone calls within minutes. She was able to accommodate all of my requests and went out of her way to take care of all of our needs.
The house is absolutely gorgeous, very well-maintained. You can tell that Susan loves this house and all the property around it. We were met in the kitchen with a huge bowl of freshly-picked oranges and avocados! There are various little ornaments and trinkets around the estate, done tastefully, showing a true love for the place. Everything was very clean, and we did not find any disrepair on the 850 acres. We enjoyed talking to Susan and reading various articles about the ranch and Chopper. Such a fantastic story!
What we loved most was that for our family of 18 never had to leave, except to buy food. There were so many things to do at Cottontail Creek Ranch. We enjoyed the Bocce ball, horseshoes, two jacuzzies, swimming pool, endless walking/running trails (some are NOT for the faint of heart!), ping pong, board games, gorgeous fire pit, an enormous kitchen that’s large enough to accommodate several “chefs”, lounge chairs on the patios to sit outside at night and enjoy the zillions of stars. It was such a relaxing place, so quiet, so lovely.
Susan offered to take us in her truck to the “ridge” where she described the hills around the property and told stories of the land, her family, the history, the conservancy. It was so interesting, and such a wild ride! Breathtaking views to the ocean, Cambria, Morrow Bay. Well-worth the experience.
All in all, I heartily recommend the Cottontail Creek Ranch for an event for a large number of people. You will be so impressed with the serenity and peacefulness that will surround you.
