Cozy Historic Cabin w/ stellar view of Big Schloss
This renovated, 130-year-old cabin is a peaceful retreat surrounded by the George Washington National Forest and five minutes from great hiking at Wolf Gap Recreation Area or Half Moon Trailhead. If hiking isn't your thing, don't worry, the views from the porch are incredible. We suggest grilling out on the wrap-around deck while you watch the deer graze their dinner. Then get a great night's sleep on super-comfortable beds. Note—there is not cell service, but there is WiFi. You can turn on WiFi calling on your phone with one click, which allows you to make and receive calls! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. The house is three stories, with open stairs leading down to the primary bedroom on the garden level that has heated slate floors and a full bathroom and up to the second bedroom with half bath and washer dryer. We take pride in our bedding. Jessie, a recent guest, said, "The bed felt like we were sleeping on a cloud!!" The UGG sheets are 100% cotton, the mattresses are Sealy Posturepedic, and there are two tempurpedic pillows as well as an assortment of others to chose from. The kitchen is well-stocked: - At least 6 plates, bowls, glasses, and wine glasses - A variety of pots and pans, including a very large pot and turkey roasting pan. - There are also baking supplies, sharp knives, and tons of cooking tools. - Regular coffee pot with filters and toaster. - Basics like sugar, flour, rice, baking soda, baking powder, salt pepper, and some other common spices. - If you are looking for something in particular, just ask! The wrap-around deck with sweeping views of the valley and the Big Schloss rock formation is a perfect place for happy hour. There is also a fire pit that you are welcome to use. We do not provide chopped wood, but you are welcome to collect downed wood on the property. You can message me at any time with questions or concerns! What to do in the area - Hike to Big Schloss, Tibet Knob, or Half Moon - Eat delicious maple-glazed cinnamon rolls at the Wardensville Garden Market - Peruse antiques, art, and local goods at the Lost River Trading Post - Take a dip at Trout Pond Recreation Area - Go fishing for Trout at Warden Lake - Grab a burger and beer at Woodstock Brewery - Play golf or tennis at Capon Springs Resort (30 minutes away)

This was a wonderful little cabin stay in the George washington national forest near big Schloss. The amenities are pretty nice in the cabin although you may need to orient yourself a bit to the area prior to arriving. Would certainly return!
I live and work in Washington, DC with my husband. And when I'm not working on my cabins, I like to be outdoors—walking, running, snowboarding, you name it.
Why they chose this property
This cabin is a total gem. It caught my eye because of the amazing view of a local landmark—Big Schloss—but it kept my attention for the character. Why go to West Virginia if you aren't going to stay in a real log cabin?!
What makes this property unique
This property is close to really great hiking, but just sitting on the porch is equally as awesome :).
