This fully air-conditioned beautiful oceanfront corner unit is less than 30 feet from the water's edge. Enjoy spectacular sunsets from your large lanai, watch the surfers, para-sailers, boogie boarders, playful dolphins, turtles, whales and passing cruise ships.

Fall asleep to the sound of the ocean. Every room has a beautiful view of the ocean and beach.

The resort is just a short walk to town for dining, shopping and the farmers market for vegetables, fruit, flowers, and souvenirs.

The pool, spa, BBQ's and outdoor dining pavilion are all oceanfront.

This was a wonderful stay! Myself and 2 friends had a great, albeit short, week at this condo. It had all we needed and the location is so convenient. Watching the sunsets, surfers and all the other activities from the lanai was so fun and relaxing.The owner, Jim, was great about responding to questions and making suggestions as well. I would definitely recommend this property for a great stay on the big island.

Wonderful stay at Kona Reef. Condo was well-equipped with everything we needed. Views from the balcony were gorgeous and the sound of the waves washed away were very relaxing. The host was communicative and helped to address our only minor concern with parking swiftly. Would recommend this property and hosts!

Amazing sunsets and walking distance to great restaurants

The four of us had a wonderful 6 night stay. Jim was a great communicator and easy to reach with our questions. The condo had everything we needed and more. The views are absolutely amazing. The condo is just a little dated but it’s clean, comfortable and very affordable for what you get. We’ve stayed at several units in Kona and this is for sure our new favorite.

WAY too expensive for Old, musty, & falling apart condo. Shower door is rusted & fell off & out of the tracks and on me while in the shower trying to close it! Dust so thick on the AC & bathroom fans that is was piling out of the vents & musty. Patio door so rusted I could barely open with all my pulling strength. And I’M NOT OLD! Hinges on the kitchen cupboards are rusting and they won’t close correctly. The metal frames around the kitchen window have rusted out screws & the wooden frame that holds the metal window frame is rotten! Can’t open or close the blinds, strings are broken. Ceiling fans have no light bulbs..2nd bedroom has one tiny lamp that is a night light, so not enough light in the bedrooms.The only positive was a view of the ocean. AND WE WERE NEVER INFORMED THAT THE POOL WAS CLOSED FOR 5 out of 7 DAYS WE WERE THERE! Not worth a 475/night pricetag!

Great property! The condo was well taken care of and had amazing views out every window. James and Nancy are terrific hosts and were very responsive. Would be my first choice if I needed a 2 bedroom again.

Fabulous Stay

Paradise in Kona

Wonderful place! This condo is right on the ocean, and we spent much of our time out on the lanai where we watched turtles, surfers, boats, parasailers, cruise ships, and the most beautiful sunsets. The condo is equipped with everything one would need during their stay. We found the beds to be comfortable, and the living area had very comfortable furniture. The owners were great with lots of communication, and immediately answered any questions that we had. We highly recommend this place, and would definitely stay there again!

Awesome vacation apartment

The unit is perfectly located by the beach and close to town but in a quiet place. There is small private beach next to the building and the building has a pool and plenty of parking. The owner was fantastic. He was always available and on top of everything. I would highly recommend you this place if you re coming with a family, small group and/or Ironman week.

Perfect location with lots of activities.

This condo was definitely a 10 out of 10. The owner was VERY helpful from the first day that we booked this. Travel information - sightseeing events - details of what would be fun to see and explore. I learned a lot from him and will implement his ideas on my VRBO listing in Rancho Mirage California.

Awesome condo

We had a lovely time staying in Jim and Nancy's condo...awesome oceanfront, 3rd floor, corner unit with everything one might need for a wonderful stay on Hawaii. Really appreciated all the great ideas of where to go and where to eat. Directions for using anything in the unit were readily available and Jim responded quickly to questions that weren't. Will definitely stay here again!

My wife and I had a great stay. Mornings where fantastic on the lanai where we got to view a ton of water traffic (like surfers, boogie borders, and boats of all sorts). One of the other advantages of the unit is that there is a sandy public beach next to it with great access to the ocean! The owners where great to deal with and very attentive. They checked in us and gave great local information.

Great place great time as usual

This was our second time in this condo and we returned for a reason. We love the area and the view cannot be better. Jim and Nancy have a beautiful condo and provide everything needed. They provide items needed for the beach and there is even snorkel gear. We hope to return again and spend some more time on the great lanai watching Dolphins,turtles, and whales.

Walking distance to town

We love this unit. Overlooks the ocean and nothing else! Also, yoga on the beach to the side of the unit several days/ week. Walking to town and leaving car safely at home is great for us. Also proximity to Green Flash Coffee and Da Poke Shack.

Great Views and Ocean sounds

The owners maintained a comfortable gem of an apartment. The attention to detail has everything you need to have a comfortable, active stay in Kailua Kona. From their CD collection with music either inside or on the lanai adds that special Island Aloha. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking meals or making a quick bite. Comfort and quality come to mind when staying in the unit, not to mention the awesome views of Honi Beach. We can't wait to return!

Walkable to town

Dear Jim and Nancy, Thank you for the enjoyable stay at Kona Reef. The Kona Reef condo location is wonderful. This upper level corner unit is centrally located to the town of Kona. Hours spent on the lanai overlooking the reef. Ample parking in the condo unit and a great back street to walk to town. Spa, pool and bbq area all well kept. Jim's guide to the island helped us with navigating the town and nearby beaches. Mahalo!

Absolutely Fabulous!!

This condo is sensational. The view of the boogie boarders and surfers on the waves from the lanai made it difficult to leave the place every day. When we could finally peel ourselves away, we had no problem finding great things to do for the whole family, because Jim sent us so much great information about restaurants, activities, beaches, and everything else! You can walk to a luau at the resort next door, or walk another couple hundred yards right into Kona Town where you can eat, shop and just people watch. The unit itself had plenty of space for our family, and the saltwater pool and BBQ area were fantastic. With the full kitchen in the unit, we had at least half of our meals in, which put some money our pockets for other activities. When we return to the big island, we won't even be looking at another place! Thanks so much for providing such a great space!

Location, location, location - and what a view

This condo is so wonderfully located, first with it's short walk to all the restaurants and shops in Kailua Village (Kailua-Kona) but more so with its private corner on the top floor of the building and 180 degree (plus) view. You will enjoy watching the body-boarders and surfers right on your doorstep. Sunset's are spectacular. The pictures represent the property quite well so there were no surprises. Most importantly, dealing with Jim was a true pleasure. We have never rented from such a responsive and honest person who truly wants the best for his guests. Due to a grave illness in the family, only a week prior to our trip we cancelled our reservation, not thinking we would be able to come, and hoping that during Spring Break there would be another taker. Jim was unbelievably accommodating of our situation. Luckily, we were able to come several days later and enjoy his condo for 8 of the original 12 nights. We would highly recommend dealing with Jim to anyone considering staying at the Kona Reef.

Wonderful Choice!

When we started exploring a family trip to the Big Island, we had no idea where to stay. As we narrowed down our target area and options, Jim's condo came on our radar. We are very happy with our decision to choose Kona Reef's location and especially Jim's unit! I had not ever used VRBO before, Jim made the process extra easy and reassuring. I would not hesiate to use VRBO and would highly recommend this oceanfront condo! The condo was very clean, well maintained and well appointed with a/c in each individual room. We were comfortable with just the doors open for the majority of the time, but were happy to have the option of the a/c on a couple of nights. Our favorite part of the condo was, ofcoarse, the lanai which is adjoined by double sliding glass doors. We spent most our time perched on the high chairs overlooking the surf . Endless hours could have been spent there watching the boogie boarders, surfers, and turtles... but Kona adventures awaited. Jim's suggestions and use of his Hawaii sight seeing book were very appreciated and utilized. Our family enjoyed 8 days of scuba diving with Kona Diving Company (we highly recommend them as an A+ company). We also did the manta ray nght dive with them--an indescribable, must-do experience (they cater to snorkelers as well)! We took a trip south to Kona coffee growing region and the bee museum . We had breakfast at Jim's recommended Coffee Shack and asked to be seated where he suggested. It was an awe inspiring view from that location and wonderful meal. We also loved Kalama's shaved ice. We went North several days as well. Did some hiking into Kiholo Bay--beautiful, couple of awesome houses and lots of turtles. Had happy hour at Lava Lava Club and lunch one day as well--recommended spot for a great view and relaxed beach vibe. Also, hit Hapuna Beach (as lovely as described). Other fun adventures included the Fairwind's snorkle boat-Hula Kai, Mauna Kea Summit Tour, Kohala Ditch Tour,horseback riding in Waipio Valley, night boat to see the lava, Umauma Falls Zipline and Volcanos Nat'l Park.. As for dining, Da Poke Shack was our favorite place for lunch, Shiono had fabulous sushi ,Sushi on the Rocks was delicious, Huggos on the Rocks, Harbor Restaurant, Don the Beachcomber, Sam Choys for laulau, Lava Lava Club, Hawaiian Style Cafe, Tex Drive In for malasadas. Really wanted to get to Pestos and Merrimans too at Jim's suggestion, but ran out of time. Hopefully we'll be back some day!

My wife and I live in Los Angeles. About 18 years ago we fell in love with Kona. We purchased our condo in 2001 and spend as much time there as possible. It really is our home away from home and we enjoy sharing it with others. The location is great.

Why they chose this property

We wanted to be as close to the ocean as possible, we love the Kona Reef and the little town of Kona, which is just a 10 minute walk to the center of town from our condo..

What makes this property unique

We never miss watching the amazing sunsets from our lanai. The dolphins put on a show for us every day and the whale season is really exciting. Kona is a very special place and has something for everyone.
