About this property

Deadwood Private Luxury Cabin with Gold Mine and Creek

This luxury cabin sits creek side within 14 private wooded mountainous acres of silence and bliss. The porch embodies the Black Hills beauty, history and majesty. The rock outcroppings and goldmine on site speak to the rich history and rugged natural beauty found only in the Black Hills. The home sits just a few miles outside the town of Deadwood and is at a higher elevation than Deadwood itself so we materially see more snow than Deadwood. The winters are harsh and unpredictable. It can and does snow anytime between September 15th and June 15th. The house itself sits in a gulch and is creek side. It is surrounded by high mountain rims and tall trees so shade dominates the house. There are 7 OUTDOOR security camera's that alert us to guest arrivals, cleaners, vendors, deliveries, propane and wood deliveries and weather conditions (especially important to weather conditions and plow activity). One is located in the creek bed to monitor flooding under the bridge, one is under the deck to monitor the snow melting equipment. One is positioned to cover the front door and one the back door. Another monitors the driveway area while the last covers the back of the house hillside and LP tanks. NONE are inside the home, and all are turned off once a guest arrives and turned on again once a guest leaves. Mountain lions, hunters and gold seekers sometimes wonder onto the property, we monitor those activities for your and the home's safety. We respect your privacy and have no interest in your leisure time, only your safety.

Why they chose this property

This property epitomizes the beauty of the Black Hills and is steeped in history and wildlife. The home was positioned next to the creek and at an elevation to ensure perpetually beautiful views. Sitting in a gulch, it is protected from wind, but at that elevation it can get some serious snow. I have seen photos and heard stories from the people before me of 60" overnight snow storms. In the DeadWood mining district the home is just around the corner from the Two Bit assey office and Two Bit hotel. There were originally several gold claims on the property. If you walk up the creekbed you will see where the stream was diverted for panning and shaker operations. You can see the "Drift Cut" Gold mine entrance that was once the B&M Loade Claim or the Elgin Loade Claim. It is only about 100-125 feet from the driveway edge. The wooden bear marks the way. The faux miners shed is clad in cynide lids found in the immediate area you will see this as soon as you cross the bridge to get to the house. Wildlife abounds! deer, elk, coyote, skunk, marmot, bobcat and mountain lion have been seen first hand on the property. Big horn sheep can be found only a few miles away on 14A (they literlaly hang out at the big horn sheep sign). The coolest mountain goats live in Spearfish Canyon where you will also see big birds of prey as well. The mountain goats have the white beards, yeah that kind of goat. You are in the northern hills where the terain and weather are more rugged and yet a close enough drive to Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse, Sylvan lake and much much more. The 1880 train is not far and well worthwhile as is the Adams Museum, Adams House, gaming and dining in Deadwood. The Rodeo comes to town and music and entertainment is on the agenda almost constantly. In Lead, one town over there is a mining museaum and the Famous Home Stake Gold Mine with its own story and really cool history. Friendship tower is a cool hike that is only a few miles away.

What makes this property unique

A real gold mine is on the property and is only 100-125 feet away from the driveway. It is old and partially collapsed so would not recommend entering it, but to climb up to it and see it up close is always very cool. The Two bit Creek was named Two Bit because every gold pan yielded 2 bits. The creek runs directly thru the center of the property. after the snow melt and spring rains it can be a torrent, by August it slows down dramatically. It is a year round thing as the fish are there every year!
