About this property

COZY STREAM-SIDE CABIN CENTRALLY LOCATED IN THE NORTHERN BLACK HILLS

Nestled in the heart of the Black Hills, this cozy cabin is the perfect place to unplug and unwind. Enjoy beautiful mountain scenery with family and friends on the expansive wraparound deck, perfect for a slow morning with coffee or a quiet summer night.
With a babbling stream outside your door, surrounded by lush pine forest, and a toasty living room fireplace, you may never feel the need to leave. But if you do decide to venture out, you’ll be less than 20 minutes from some of the state’s best attractions, including ski slopes at Terry Peak, mountain hikes in Spearfish Canyon, and the steakhouses, saloons and museums of historic downtown Deadwood.

-The cabin property includes one bedroom with a full-sized bed that can accommodate a couple.
-There is also snug loft space with a queen mattress tucked away under a locally sourced wood ceiling – perfect for a couple pre-teens, teens, or adventurous adults
- and a newly-finished bunkhouse with a queen-sized bed under a lofted twin approximately 20 yards from the main cabin. Guests are welcome to use the bunkhouse to sleep a number of people beyond what the cabin can accommodate.
There will be a $45 fee charged to cover the cost of additional cleaning and laundry as well as heating the building for use.
To avoid the user fee, do not enter the bunkhouse.

-We advertise the property as suitable for sleeping six persons. That is assuming use of the bunkhouse and couples sharing beds. Maitland Legacy is NOT suitable for more than three individuals not intending to share beds.

Guests are welcome to use the wood-burning fireplace. The fee of $25 is used to cover the cost of fireplace maintenance, cleaning and wood. Guests will need to visit with the host either by phone or in person when they get on-property prior to using the fireplace.
There is parking for several vehicles. The area is large enough to park a towing vehicle and attached trailer.
Experienced motorcyclists will have no problem accessing the home via well-maintained gravel roads. The cabin is located just a few miles from Spearfish, Sturgis, Deadwood, Lead, and Central City.

Excellent property! We had a relatively large group with 4 adults & 4 kids and everyone enjoyed themselves. We all played in the creek and took advantage of the lack of cell service to really unplug. Perfect spot if you enjoy privacy, nature and homey comforts. Host is top notch as well. I'll definitely be back to this location.

We absolutely loved the location of this property. Who knew South Dakota was this amazing? I watched the turkeys come down fm roost in the morning. I stopped my car as the deer claimed the roads, I was in awe watching the mountain goats nearby, freely grazing. And the views?? UNBELIEVABLE. I get emotional exploring the beauty of our great Country. The memories of this area i will cherish. This jem was great for us and the hosts were amazing. Thanks for sharing your sweet place with us.

Amazing!!

We were in spearfish for the BHSU basketball camp for our boys and we stayed here and it is its own little piece of heaven in the mountains. Dewayne was great with communication and the cabin was everything we expected. When we come back this is where we will stay.

Week getaway

Had a great experience staying here! Good communication with property owner. Cabin literally had everything only needed to bring meals and clothing. Only complaint would be a nicer mattress for the bed, but overall we would def stay again!😁

St Pattys weekend

Awesome property perfect size for the weekend for 2. Just need to point out that the kitchen and bathroom needs curtains although the tint keeps anyone from seeing inside during the Day it’s totally opposite at night gives full veiw in nighttime hours. Fortunately there’s a hillside view on those windows overall rating gets a 10 will definitely be booking again.

Cabin in the woods all to yourself

The cabin is located up in the forested hills. It has a stream flowing by right next to the spacious deck. If you are looking for a peaceful setting, this is it! The kitchen has all you would need to prepare a delicious meal including a bbq on the deck. Spices and condiments are there for your use also. It’s only 10 minutes or so from Deadwood or Lead but secluded so you feel like you are away from it all.

Heaven in South Dakota!!!

The most cozy and peaceful place we have stayed!!! It felt like home. Clean, comfy, and packed with necessities you don’t find most places. THAT DECK!!! My goodness! THAT STREAM!!! Words can’t describe how great this place was!! The owner was great giving me a heads up to get the code before we got to the house. No cell phone service there, and boy did I need that!!!

The Promise of Peace

The photo in the listing--a tiny bridge spanning the creek in front of the cabin--caught our eye. And when we pulled in were delighted. Laurie had attended her 50th high school reunion in Rapid City, an event that resembled a pinball machine with random collisions/reconnects/conversation. She needed a dose of the Black Hills. The sound of the creek was perfectly soothing. The wind in the pines. We left the cabin for bike rides on the Mickelson trail, explorations of Deadwood and Lead,-- could have stayed forever.

Not as expected

Location was good for our activity plans. This cabin is nicely presented on the outside. We found it odd of which of the three doors to enter which turned out to be the last door. Upon entering it was right at 80 degrees inside. I then called the owner regarding A/C then found out there wasn’t one ( not noted on listing). As the evening progressed and windows opened it did cool down. Although a grill is provided, which we did use the first night, it had seen better days. The kitchen is well stocked and clean. The bathroom is tiny and hard to use. There were other items I didn’t mention but overall this was a disappointment.

About the host

Hosted by Maitland Legacy LLC

Host profile image
The property is co-owned by two families who wanted to acquire a vacation property to be used by the owners as much as the rental obligations would allow and also to provide a "legacy" for our children who have been life-long friends to enjoy in the future. We wish to share the good fortune of finding our cabin with others who may at some point share a similar dream.

We manage our own property so we might have more direct contact and better communication with our guests.

Why they chose this property

Our families have had years of ties to the Northern Black Hills of South Dakota. We have all vacationed, worked, volunteered and attended college here at various times in our lives.

What makes this property unique

The cabin loft (queen mattress) provides a neat place for younger guests to hold up in their own space while still feeling a part of the activities in the cabin. The recently finished bunkhouse (queen bed with lofted twin bed above) provides more privacy a few yards from the main cabin. There is a $45 additional fee for using the bunkhouse.
