About this property
Madison 3 BR Cottage on 3000 acre Lake Kegonsa. Kayaks & Pontoon
Must be 30 yrs old. Rented Sat-Sat summer weeks. The 'Boathouse' doesn't shelter watercraft anymore, but it does provide a wonderful home on the shore of 3000 acre Lake Kegonsa. It is located at Crown Point Resort in a country setting, but is only 15 minutes from downtown Madison Wisconsin, 20 minutes from the airport, and 2 hours from Chicago's O'Hare airport. Lake Kegonsa (lake of many fishes) is one of the four large lakes starting in Madison and is generally unknown and uncrowded. It is only rented by the week, Sat-Sat from Mid June to mid August. 3 nights min on holidays. There are a lot of stairs down to the cedar sided Boathouse is at water's edge, three levels of spectacular, never ending views. We recommend packing in small duffels. The top level has the master bedroom, queen bed,2 twin beds, and a full bathroom. Walking by the Weber charcoal grill and crossing the deck takes you into the middle level, with living and dining areas,a gas fireplace, washer/dryer,full bathroom, and a well stocked kitchen. Plenty of pots and pans, dishware, dishwasher, micro, coffeepot, etc. The bottom or lake level has one bedroom with two twin beds, and another bedroom with a queen bed, and a full bathroom. All levels have great sunrise views over the lake .There is a flat screen tv in the living area and 2 smaller ones in the bedrooms. WiFi is free.Central air and heat throughout. No pets are allowed.Located at rated #1 Crown Point Resort, the Boathouse also has the VRBO highest rating.
Bring your boat! There is a long pier right out the door that provides bumpers for tie up. The boat launch is 5 minutes away. Gas and bait are also close. For our guests only, we rent a 9 person pontoon boat, 6 kayaks,4 single and 2 doubles, 4 paddleboards, and a peddle boat. As we don't have a sandy beach, most everyone swims off the end of the pier and swim raft. The lake bottom is rocky or sandy. No drop offs or muck. We have other size lake cottages for rent. Call any day 8-6. No pets are allowed. This is not a party house. No bachelor or bachelorette parties.
Madison has been recognized as one of the premier places to live. The best farmers market in the US, outdoor music, free zoo, art fairs, and great restaurants are minutes away. Our little town Stoughton, has one of the largest Norwegian communities settled in the country, and offers a historic downtown with classic bars and restaurants, art and antiques, shopping, and festivals. Check out the music lineup at the Stoughton Opera House.

Great stay with friends. Really fun property with amazing views. Step out of your bedroom and on to the dock! Great setup for 3 couples. Would definitely stay again if in the area
Staying here was fantastic. The views are breathtaking, the beds are very comfy, and its incredibly clean. I would easily stay here again!! Highly recommended!
It was beautiful. We had extended family stay in the smaller cabins, and we stayed in the Boathouse #6 and had a very good time all together for meals and cards.
What a perfect location and perfectly kept house. Clean and very well stocked. Frank (owner) was so great to work with. Right on the beautiful lake. Will definitely look to book again soon!
Can’t get closer to the water than cottage 6 - beautiful!
Our family thoroughly enjoyed 3 nights in cottage 6. The sunrise was spectacular. Had a great time on the pontoon boat. Frank was a very responsive host.
Crown Point Resort is a gem on Lake Kegonsa, owned and run by a very personable host.
We stayed in cottage 6, the boat house. It was clean and tidy and had all that we needed for our brief stay. Comfortable beds too - and A/C was a necessity during the excessive heat. Glad we also had the lake to chill out in. We would stay here again.
The boathouse cabin was great. Super clean, very unique and comfortable for 6 of us. Exceeded my expectations. We would love for this to be a yearly vacation. The owner, Frank was helpful and very accommodating.
Awesome views from almost every room. Stayed for family wedding weekend. Close enough to Madison to make a good base to go to family functions and back. Very comfortable house and nicely appointed.
We were in town for the Madison Ironman so we didn't get to spend a huge amount of time on the property but it was absolutely beautiful. The communication with Frank was top-notch and very responsive. The views out the window were beautiful to wake up to and see before we went to sleep at night. We were right at the Lakeshore and the stars at night were stunning. The cottage itself had everything we needed for five adults and we were very very pleased.
The house was perfect for a family of 6. Listening to the waves at night and early morning was wonderful. Frank, the owner, was excellent with communication and helped get our luggage to the rental. Overall, excellent stay. We will return for sure.
We are four friends who met in Chadbourne Hall 50 years ago. One of us was recently diagnosed with ALS and while it was a challenge to get down the hill, we thoroughly enjoyed the patio and the beautiful views. Many thanks to Steve who sherpa’ed us up the hill. Very nice memories were made.
Nice house with lovely lake views. Great communication! Comfortable and clean. We used it as a base to explore Madison, Devil's Lake, Baraboo, and The House on the Rock. Would highly recommend!
We stayed here because of a graduation and the Christmas holiday as a family. It was fantastic. Very nice house and beautiful views of the lake. Frank, the property owner, was very pleasant. Fortunately, we had no issues. Highly recommend.
We visited the area to visit University of Wisconsin and attend a football game. The boathouse was perfect for our group of six. It was a short drive to Madison and provided a “cozy” place to relax. Loved having 3 full bathrooms. The beds were comfortable and the view was beautiful. Frank was kind, friendly, and helpful.
This is a beautiful location (literally, just a few feet off the lake) and a nice home. I was impressed with how large the home is - it's larger than it appeared in the images. We'll definitely return to this location, if it's available, when we have our small family reunion again next year. 5 stars from me!
The location of the house was amazing! We couldn’t have been any closer to the water. Frank was great. He met us at check in and showed us where everything was and how to work everything. The docks were so fun to sit and watch the boats and fish off of. We were excited to have the option of using paddle boards and kayaks. The house was very clean and comfortable. We hope to visit again when we come back to Madison.
We wanted a low-key way to celebrate a retirement, and this boathouse was the perfect option. The lake views are amazing, and there were plenty of birds to serenade us. The house was very clean and cozy. Frank was very friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed hearing the history of his resort and were impressed with the years of hard work he put into it. We did not take advantage of the kayaks or paddleboards available but hope to come back another time to get out on the lake.
We stayed in cabin 6 for two nights in May, 2022 for our daughter’s college graduation from UW-Madison. We enjoyed watching the rain storm Friday night. The cabin was very clean and spacious. The owner Frank was very friendly and responsive. We would definitely recommend this cute resort and would return in the future. Barb L.

I have enjoyed 30 years of fun on Lake Kegonsa. I came to Madison for college and decided to live here!
Why they chose this property
I have always loved living on the water. This is still a not very crowded lake with the big city amenities nearby.
What makes this property unique
There are never ending lake views. I can jump in my boat and be fishing or waterskiing in minutes.
