About Theresa Palmer
Owners Brian & Theresa Palmer designers from the UK. We moved to the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains 10 years ago. Knoll cottage is situated across the field from our home and studio. We enjoy walking the hundred acres of pasture and woodland, and our guests are welcome to do the same. We often bike the New River Trail and are happy to let the guests have the use of four bicycles as well as canoe and kayak. We are keen gardeners and raise our own organic vegetables. Weekends are spent mainly outside enjoying the peace and beauty of the surrounding area.
Theresa Palmer purchased this Cottage in 2006
Why Theresa Palmer chose Dugspur
This charming peaceful cottage in the rolling hills of The Blue Ridge is perfect for groups large or small, as there are additional accommodations with a Glamping tent or staying in a Gypsy Caravan on the same property. It is a unique opportunity for a memorable visit.
What makes this Cottage unique
The feedback from our visitors since we started renting the cottage has been most rewarding. It is our pleasure to see guests relaxing and enjoying this peaceful part of the world.

Beautiful Country House that met our needs perfectly!
If you like waking up to deer, cows and sheep grazing on the hillsides around you
Then you will like it here. Just plain country charm abounds at this property.
Peaceful and relaxing
We loved waking up to the cows mooing in the pasture. If you enjoy the simple things in life this is the rental for you. We went to the Va Tech game and when we came home that night we were greeted by a herd of deer laying by the driveway. The beds were comfortable, pound cake was delicious and the owners were super nice!
Serene and pawsful
Wonderful place to unwind. And both my dogs give it 4 paws up!
Thank you dogs for giving us 4 paws up. Well behaved canines will always be welcome.
Perfect Sister Weekend
The cottage was adorable, set in a picturesque scene of rolling hills, flower gardens, grazing cows and a meandering stream. Loved the decorating style inside, filled with delightful colors, patterns, and collectibles. It was cozy and inviting, making for relaxing and fun late-night sister talks and laughs.
Theresa welcomed us with delicious fresh carrot cake in hand. She was very accommodating and a pleasure to work with.
Cell service was sketchy for us, making communication a little difficult. But, we wanted to be "off the grid" so this was to be expected,
Wonderful overall experience. It was a perfect, relaxing, clean and comfy place for a sister weekend! Floyd Country Store provided Friday night entertainment. We soaked in the beautiful views as we drove the 20-30 minutes to the store.
I highly recommend this property and would definitely return should the opportunity arise.

Wish we could have stayed longer
Great place to relax. Come and stay awhile. We didn’t have time to fully enjoy. Hope to be back!
As a user of any accommodation site, I read all the reviews before I make a booking. They are insightful and help me make an informed decision. This case was no exception. So, I echo every positive comment associated with the Dugspur Cottage! My family of four, to include two boys ages 10 & 12, found this stay to be amazing. In addition to the cottage being perfect for our needs (comfortable, board games, videos, space, and layout), the surrounding property was breathtaking. It is so private! No traffic, no noise, no light pollution. Each morning, we would sip our coffee on 1 of 2 porches and watch as the Angus cattle and sheep would graze from pasture to pasture. Meanwhile, the boys would wander the hills, streams, and property just being boys. They loved swinging in the hammock, and walking to the fishing pond. So safe!! Lots of birds and bunnies to see also. Each night, we laid out under the stars on a blanket/chairs to star gaze. You can see them so well! You do not really need to go anywhere...as this place is a vacation in itself. However, wer found Rocky Knob State Park, Mabry Mill, and Mt Airy to be wonderful day trips. Bring rubber boots to traipse through the wet dew grass in the mornings...or wade in the streams. There is also a pond nearby where you can fish too...or throw a stick to Meg, the friendly border collie who roams the property. The owners, Theresa and Brian, are so warm and welcoming...and will work hard to see you are well looked after. They left fresh flowers, peaches, apples, and sourdough bread for us to enjoy. I definitely will return to this awesome tranquility. It is a rare gem sitting on 160+ acres of rolling green hills and nature at your doorstep. There are great hiking trails too right from the cottage front door!
