About this property

Nearly beachfront, peaceful bungalow at the reef. Snorkel, swim, lounge, nap.

Peaceful cottage getaway at the reef. Enjoy a slice of Hawaiiana in the heart of the South Kohala Coast. Quiet, midcentury modern, newly refreshed cottage just steps from sand beaches, lava tidepools, snorkel, dive, swim, boogie, nap, picnic, beachcomb, walking, cycling, more napping? A truly special spot unlike any other on the Big Island. Aloha! Required: Government issued ID, 2 positive reviews and agreement to House Rules in order to confirm booking request.
We are located in a beautiful, quiet, residential neighborhood, on the reef, at the South Kohala coastline. 1.5 blocks to Puako General Store for snacks, sandwiches, drinks, ice and more. 2 miles to Wailea Bay (great snorkeling), 4 miles to sandy Hapuna Beach (swim, boogie, walk, jog, sunbathe), 9 mi to Waikoloa Beach Resort, 7 mi to Mauna Lani Resort-both offering shopping, dining, and beach access. 30 min from the airport, 45 min from Kona/Kailua and 30 min to wonderful Waimea (farmers market, fine dining, shopping, Kona Coffee, cool down). We provide; beach chairs, boogie boards, umbrella, beach towels. Unparalleled hiking in our 13 climates, 5 volcanos, two of which are the tallest mountains on earth, over 4000 square miles to explore. Uncrowded and unspoiled. Night skies of constellations, comets, meteors, without light pollution just outside your backdoor. Tropical birds, neighborhood turkeys, turtles, whales and porpoise, manta and abundant sea creatures.
We do have a television, however, if the tv is broken or the remote is lost it may not be repaired during your stay. Mahalo.

Why they chose this property

Aloha! If you are looking for a sweet place to unplug, away from crowds, in nature, at the beach, in a quiet residential (not resort), location, we are a good fit. If you need services, concierge and nightlight other than sunset, birds, beach, whales, we are not that profile. We do not have a TV and have room for 2 adults +1 young adult, maximum. Puako is on the hot and dry side of the island. We are not in the tropical rain forest. If you have been to Puako, you know what a unique and truly special location this is. We have a very large and private backyard adjacent to the state forest. The front yard is large with an amazing Monkey Pod tree providing shade throughout the day. We are directly across the street from the reef/ocean. Our building is original Hawaiiana, refreshed in 2020, and humble. We hope you enjoy your visit as much as we love this hidden treasure.
