Authentic Alaskan cabin experience near the heart of Denali
Our secluded authentic Alaskan cabin is nestled in a rustic setting with spectacular mountain views. This private wooded property, boasting an "off the grid" driveway and plenty of wildlife, is walking distance to Otto Lake. This unique cabin is one of two cabins on our 8 acre property. Enjoy great fishing, swimming, and other water activities or stop at Black Diamond Resort for tundra golf, horse pulled wagon rides, ATV excursions, or fine dining.
Our quaint town of Healy is the home to several unique dining experiences, an amazing coffee spot, local brewery, and so much more. Down the heart of the community is the Parks Highway, which takes you to an outdoor adventure at Denali National Park less than 15 minutes away.
The authentic Alaskan cabin has an open great room, with a queen hide-a-bed, a futon, and a built-in dining area. There is a queen blow-up mattress available that is able to sleep two guests in this area. The sitting room, with a twin day bed and an additional twin mattress, opens to a private patio. Up a steep stairs, which adds to the experience, leads to the loft bedroom. The loft has a comfortable full bed, a futon, exhilarating views, and additional amenities. The kitchen is full service, with fridge, sink, microwave and stove. Off the main entrance deck, the mountain views are beyond description. The bathroom offers a sink, a water conservation shower, and a waterless Separett toilet. However, for those truly desiring the full Alaskan experience, there is an “elite” outhouse out back as well. If your previous adventures have left you exhausted, not to worry…we will provide wireless Internet and Netflix.

Cabin was great! We loved our time there! The history of the cabin was great to know! The hill, was an adventure, even though we knew how to avoid it!

Once I got over the shock of the incline driving up to the property, things were good. The view was amazing and the history of the property was very cool. The flowers outside were beautiful and made us feel very welcome.

The peaceful surroundings made it a perfect place for our family. Our kids had an amazing time exploring and enjoying the outdoor space. The highlight of our stay was spotting a mommy moose and her baby near the cabin yesterday evening—it was such a memorable Alaska experience! We truly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend Healy Cabin to anyone visiting the area. Grateful for the nice review! Happy to hear your family enjoyed our unique property and the surrounding area
Staying in a cabin like this was a first for our family and a bit of a surprise. It definitely achieves the rustic feel as soon as you enter the dirt driveway and we are greeted with seeing a momma moose and her calf right off the back deck! The listing was entirely accurate, but I did not read it carefully enough to notice some of the quirks like the waterless toilet and the steep stairs to the bedroom above. These quirks, plus the optional outhouse, enriched my family's experience.

We had a wonderful experience. Amazing views from the deck. Wonderful, charming cabin, full of history and unique detail - an authentic experience indeed. Very cosy and comfortable, very clean and well-equipped, with a large, spacious living room that we appreciated very much. All directions and instructions to and inside the cabin were very clear and easy to navigate. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and found it hard to leave behind. The host shared the history of the place with us and it is indeed special.

We are so very pleased your experience at our unique cabin was a wonderful one indeed! We loved sharing it with you and yours...We also appreciate your truthful review about our amenities, the cleanliness of the place, the spacious living room and the amazing views from the deck. It is so relaxing on that deck! We would love to share our cabin with you if you ever head this way again. Thanks for leaving the place so easy to take care of.
Wonderful hosts, clean & cozy rooms just as they were described in the listing. The views were incredible and we really appreciated the written instructions throughout the cabin that helped us to be good stewards. The outhouse was a fun experience and the level of detail (hot teas, chocolates, stocked kitchen, etc.) were so thoughtful. We also loved learning about the history of the cabin. THANK YOU

You were absolutely terrific guests! Thank you so much for choosing our unique cabin for your overnight accommodations in the area. And thank you for the wonderful review plus mentioning some of the things that make our cabin really special. We would love to host you again in the future!
The place was clean and had a good bit of space. It had fairly dark curtains for the summer sun but generally sleep masks are helpful in my opinion. One of the beds and a futon were upstairs in a loft. It was a little warm up there at first but as the air cooled “at night”, it was nice. The roof was a little low for any tall people. It had everything we needed. There is water in the cabin but with separate drinking water provided. There is a toilet inside as well as an outhouse. The GPS was accurate but I still managed to arrive via the less preferred side of the road. It was steep. The other direction is easy. This unit was the first cabin. We enjoyed our stay here. Beautiful view from loft and about 20 minutes from Denali NP.

Thank you for choosing our property, glad you enjoyed your stay!! With the Alaskan breeze, opening the loft windows usually cool that space right down, especially for sleeping. And we do provide sleeping masks for those that prefer them We also provide clear directions, for each guest, to find the property without utilizing the steep grade road that GPS directs people. Thanks again!!
Amazing stay! Really peaceful and we saw a moose and her calf right off the deck!

My family and I enjoyed staying in this wonderful cabin. It is close to Denali National Park, and we also learned about what it is like to live in Interior Alaska!
Charming cabin and comfortable stay for our family of 5. Well stocked place (including some fun games!), beautiful property, and easy access to Denali and area restaurants. The outhouse added to the Alaskan charm (there is an indoor bathroom, too)!

We enjoyed hosting the five of you! Glad our place was a great fit for you all. We really enjoy sharing our cabin with folks like you. Thank you!
This property was an authentic Alaskan cabin! The hosts were easy to communicate with both during booking and during our stay. The location was beautifully rural yet close to ammenities and Denali National Park. We found the cabin clean and well cared for.The kitchen was fully furnished, wifi was strong and there was a charcoal grill. Plenty of towels and bedding as well. Other pluses included jugs of water in the refrigerator, coffee, tea & sugar, some spices and seasonings, and games & cards. However, I do think there should have been a more detailed description of the bathroom, especially the waterless toilet, which was not a comfortable experience for all the guests. We knew there was an outhouse as well, but were expecting a traditional bathroom inside. This was a surprise that we didn't need. The host was understanding about our difficulties & gave us a gift card to the local coffee shop as an apology. I believe I would recommend the property to anyone comfortable with this type of bathroom facility; I just think it should be made clear before booking.

We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay, and are grateful you chose our property. Thanks for pointing out many of the amenities as we try to add comfort for our guests! We are sorry to hear that you didn't see the clear description of the bathroom that mentions the waterless Sepratta toilet. Again, we offer an authentic Alaskan cabin experience, which is certainly different than a home in the lower 48. But rual Alaska near Denali is the draw. Thanks again!!
Very neat property with a unique history. Enjoyed the stay.

This felt like a true Alaskan experience! The host was very responsive with any questions we had. Everything was clean with great amenities for such a rustic cabin. We had a toddler with us so the travel crib and a few toys were a great addition. Will happily stay here in the future if we are in the area!
Our stay was perfect. The cabin was close to the park which made it a great base camp for day trips of hiking and fishing.

About the host
Hosted by Wade & Karla Nelson
Wade has traveled the world and lived in many wonderful places. He graduated from London Central and lived most of his life in California. Karla is originally from ND. She lived in Healy, AK for over 25 years, along with time in the village of St. Michael, AK. We have 13 grandchildren and know more will be added! Our favorite part about hosting is we get to share our special and unique cabin with people from all over the world. We know our cabin is a great place for family and friends to hang out - we enjoy doing this for our guests.
Why they chose this property
Karla lived in Healy for over 25 years. She raised her three children here of which two remained. Wanting to be back for the summers, we located the most wonderful property to purchase. It's a really wonderful spot with 8 acres of woods and wildlife. It's quiet, beautiful and nicely tucked away from the bustle of the Park,
What makes this property unique
Our property has a beautiful history. It was homesteaded decades ago and has been transformed into an amazing cabin our guests really enjoy staying at. I share a bit of the history during your stay. Many people are grateful for the history and the man that made it all happen. Also, our property has a patio along with a deck that has spectacular views as well as a covered deck for those rainy days. Moose often visit the property!
