Lovely cottage in a charming rural setting with easy access for exploring Skye. Hugh’s is a great escape from the congestion of Portree, with convenient access to local cafes and groceries. The cottage is well appointed and provides all the comfort and convenience needed for a wonderful stay. Highly recommend this property-
My wife and I had a great time staying here. Really enjoyed the sheep so closely located with the newborn lambs.
Great location for beautiful scenery and awesome day hiking.
Amazing area.
House was very clean and accommodating:-)

This property was exceptional! It is beautifully decorated, immaculate, private, and in the most beautiful setting with sheep greeting us each morning. The home is equipped with every comfort a guest would be hoping for, leaving you feeling that you've been well taken care of! We would definitely book here again and highly recommend this property!
This tiny Scottish cottage was an absolute gem - cozy, charming, and perfectly located for exploring the northern highlands. The space was compact yet comfortable, and Hugh is a perfect host. All the amenities you could need!
We loved staying at Hughes Hideaway. Our favorite part was that there were little lambs/ sheep in the pasture next to the house for part of our stay. It also had really nice Mountain View’s as well as a little peekaboo sea view. The house was super clean and had everything we needed. It was away from the busyness, it was just a really charming spot to stay. We would definitely come back again.

Our stay was extremely enjoyable. The house was equipped with everything we needed. The location was exactly what we wanted in an out of the way highland experience. Sleeping accommodation was very comfortable. The owner communicated clearly and timely with us prior to and upon our arrival. Would highly recommend this accommodation for anyone wanting to experience the highland rural experience.

We had an amazing stay! Our only suggestion is to mark the driveway a little better. We arrived late at night in the fog and had difficulty finding the house. Thank you Hugh for a wonderful stay!
First day at Hughes , Highland hideaway was absolutely amazing! I can’t tell you how happy I am that we avoided poor tree and went more inland to stay in a quieter area with so much natural beauty it was mind blowing. The cottage is perfectly kept and cozy, and so welcoming. The area of the island is absolutely so beautiful and as a bonus, we had the most gorgeous, full moon rising on our last night. Highly recommend this stay. Hope to come again sometime.
Staying here was truly the highlight of our time on Isle of Skye. Our favorites: The peaceful quiet, the darling lambs running in the field in front of our cottage, the golden light as dusk fell over the land and sea, watching bats zip by, eating breakfast outside, hiking the Quairaing, lying on Staffin beach-both 10 minutes away-and relaxing. Hugh’s cottage is clean, fully equipped, warm and cozy. Comfortable beds. We will definitely come again.

Best wishes to you!!!

All I can say is this is what I envisioned a cottage to be like. The kitchen was perfect for our family of 3. The house was warm and inviting, being able to see the ocean was a huge plus for me. We loved being just far enough from Portree to avoid the crowds and have some quiet, yet close enough to not feel like it was an inconvenience to drive there. Would return in a heartbeat!
Exceptionally provisioned looking after every detail. Away from the tourist inundated areas but amazingly handy to the most sought after sites.. if you want to leave the croft! Lindsey, the caretaker. wss a wealth of local history, and a gracious Gaelic host if you are fortunate enough to meet him.
Actually, probably the best away-from-home experience we’ve had in a long time!
Hugh’s cottage was absolutely beautiful, cozy, and welcoming, and was away from the hubbub of Portree while also close enough to enjoy what that town had to offer. We did some wonderful hikes in the area and explored nearby attractions, and always looked forward to returning to the cottage. Our daughter loved all the nearby animals and walking around the area.
Hugh and the caretaker, Lindsey, were extremely responsive and helpful with any questions we had, or if any minor issues popped up.
It was a fantastic stay and we would happily return if ever back in the area.
My wife and I spent 3 nights at Hugh's Highland Hideaway as the centerpiece of our 12 day Scotland vacation. What rare a special place. The cottage is surrounded my meadows and grazing sheep set againast beautiful green mountain slopes behind. Inside it's very well kept and clean with updated heaters, bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen was especially impressive with everything we needed to cook our meals every morning and evening. Very close to Storr and The Quiraing we hiked both and made it back in time to clean up, eat and watch the sunsets. Romantic neautiful peaceful and relaxing.
From the moment we began our conversation with our host, Hugh, we had a very good feeling about his special place, Hugh's Hideaway in the Staffin Hills. The large cottage was pristine, very well appointed and extremely comfortable. We arrived to a welcoming fire and delight upon seeing the beautifully furnished interior. A well stocked kitchen with everything a guest needs for self catering. And the location......... In the middle of a vast field bordering the Trotternish Peninsula. If you are visiting Skye, here is a place to call home!
Hugh's house was so homey and comfortable! AMAZING views all around, sheep to watch out back. While remote, it's close to many famous trails and a cafe nearby.
While unmarked and a white car sits next to (we thought someone was in it), pay attention to the pics and map.
We went mid-May and us visitors were already picking up. Parking was scarce at the hiking trails, the narrow roads were getting too loaded with cars to navigate taking turns getting through. Reservations at the cafe are a necessity, and there was NO parking avail in Portree, except at the CO-OP grocery store.

A true Isle of Skye getaway experience. A beautifully renovated original cottage with modern day comforts and so many thoughtful extra touches to make our stay truly memorable. Pre arrival advice on cottage access and local dining options preempted possible hassles. Themed Scottish decor added to the atmosphere and we were lucky enough with the timing of our stay to have new born lambs both immediately in front of and behind our cottage learning to run and play - cuteness overload. We actually found it hard to leave the cottage and go out to view and enjoy the wider ranging rugged beauty of Skye. Our only regret was that we only had 2 nights there, a week would have been perfect. Thank you Hugh for sharing your piece of heaven.
