The Rico Hinckley House! Historic Cabin! Sauna! 24 Miles to Telluride! Pets OK!

The Hinckley House ⛰️

Historic Rico Miner’s Cabin

1,500 sq. ft. | 1920s Miner’s Cabin | Private Residence | Cedar Sauna | 24 Miles to Telluride

Welcome to The Hinckley House, a historic 1,500-square-foot miner’s cabin in Rico, Colorado.

Built in the 1920s, the cabin was originally part of the property and working grounds of Sherman Hinckley, president and general manager of the Rico Argentine Mining Company. Originally constructed as a workshop, the building was converted into a mountain residence in the 1990s and fully renovated in 2022.

We’ve worked to keep the character of the original building while adding the modern comforts you’d expect in a mountain home.

The Hinckley House is located just off Main Street, directly across from the historic courthouse, and approximately 24 miles from the Telluride/Mountain Village Gondola.

🏡 Your Private Cabin

You will have exclusive use of the entire 1,500-square-foot cabin.

The cabin is a standalone residence with its own address, private entrance, and dedicated utilities. It is connected to the main home by an enclosed breezeway that was designed to allow passage between the properties during the winter months.

The breezeway is locked at both ends, providing privacy and separation between the cabin and the main home.

The property has three separate residences, each with its own private living space and entrance.

Your Private Outdoor Space

Guests staying at The Hinckley House have exclusive use of:

* South-facing deck
* Outdoor seating area
* Weber gas grill
* Private parking area directly in front of the cabin

Shared Outdoor Amenities

The cedar wet/dry sauna and fire pit are shared amenities available to guests staying in the three residences on the property.

The sauna comfortably accommodates up to five people and is a great way to relax after a day in the mountains.

A telescope is also provided for enjoying Rico’s dark skies. 🔭

⛏️ The Hinckley History

Sherman Hinckley served as president and general manager of the Rico Argentine Mining Company, and this property was part of his residence and working grounds during Rico’s later mining years.

The original cabin was built as a workshop in the 1920s. It was later converted into a residence and has been updated over the years, including a complete renovation in 2022.

We kept the historic character of the building while updating the kitchen, bathroom, heating, and other features to make it comfortable for today’s guests.

🛏️ Sleeping & Living Spaces

* Downstairs bedroom with king bed
* Upstairs sleeping loft with queen, full, and twin beds
* Double sofa sleeper in the living room
* Memory-foam mattresses throughout
* Cozy fireplace
* Radiant boiler heating throughout

🍳 Modern Comforts

* New kitchen with stainless-steel appliances

Cozy Mountain Getaway

We used these as an access point to a hut trip to the north and it was so comfortable, so clean and the house had some many well thought out details that really gave it a charm. Highly recommend!
