The Downtown Abbey- The Great Hall

The Great Hall is the crown jewel of the Downtown Abbey. The largest private unit in our triplex. Vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows and plenty of space to stretch out and enjoy your stay in downtown San Marcos. The Great Hall is perfect for family gatherings, a girls’ weekend away or a creative retreat!


This unique space is a stones throw away from the best attractions San Marcos has to offer.

Visiting Texas State? 10 minute walk.

Looking to cool off in a spring fed river? 5 minute drive.

Want to grab a bite to eat or a couple of drinks on the square? 3 minute drive.
The Downtown Abbey is charming late victorian era estate centrally located in the center of San Marcos. It is walking distance to several incredible natural landmarks like the Blanco and San Marcos rivers. It is a short drive to both Austin and San Antonio. A perfect place to stay and relax or to explore Texas from.

Perfect San Marcos Stay!

This property was so cool! It has so much character. The beds were comfy and it was a great location . We were able to walk to restaurants. We will definitely stay again!

Well, just about everything stood out. We love the layout of the house. We love the fact that it’s a converted church. We love all the finishings. The house had so much character. It was probably the coolest place we’ve ever stayed at with VRBO. It was so close to everything we didn’t have to get in our car except for maybe a couple of times.. We will definitely be staying there again.

The host was very available. The character for the property was wonderful. It was very warm and inviting. I wish there was widow coverings in the bedroom on the 2nd floor. However you are to work around with getting dress on the bathroom on the 2nd floor.

We enjoyed the ability to have our family gather in a joint space with a common area that was well equipped and spacious! The accommodations were not unique, vintage, and comfortable. Thank you!

The property is great, very spacious, but we were in the largest space available. It is such a neat property. Our only conerns were that the lights and fans did not work in several areas. In addition it is very obvious that whoever manages the property never actually goes on sight. There were full mailboxes, Christmas decorations in spring and a ladder with paint tools where the outdoor living area was supposed to be. Also, someone had dumped a salad at the entrance that was rotten. Overall it is a good property in a great location that can accomodate a good group.

Great Stay!

Overall a great place to stay with a large group. There is plenty of space for everybody and it’s in such a great location. We were able to walk to downtown for dinner. The beds were also comfortable. Some cons, the house has strict quiet hours because the walls are thin and old church echos. We were able to hear the other tenants laughing and walking around so I’m sure they were also able to hear us as well. Although we were both respectful of the quiet hours so it worked out. The bathroom and one of the bedroom doors down stairs wouldn’t stay closed so we had to put towels down in front of the door in order to keep them closed. Overall, a great place to gather with friends and family and it is cool to be staying in an old church. Host also responded quickly when needed. Would stay again!

Tried to communicate with Ryan the host prior to the stay and again when there were issues during the stay. Never responded to either contact. Only contact was to tell us how to access the facility and how to check out- both appeared to be automated.Next door tenants were loud all night and we were not able to communicate the issue to host.Cleanliness was lacking- nasty bathtub. No hot water in other bathroom with shower.Other tenants parked in our designated space because constuction workers were parked in their space. We had to wedge in behind and play musical cars.Not welcoming at check in. Front door and entrance where blocked by construction, front steps and door were dirty. Not even so much as a bottle of water available in fridge. Would never recommend this facility.
