About this property

Country Home with Babbling Brook and Pond View- Minutes to Berkshire East Resort

3 Bedroom house, known as Flight's End, is for rent by day(two day minimum), weekend, week or month. Great for romantic get away or a family outdoor vacation. Not a party house. Fifteen minutes to Charlemont, Ashfield and Shelburne Falls. One hour to Amherst, North Adams, Pittsfield.

House is located on a brook and across the road from a private pond (not suitable for swimming). Fifteen minutes to Berkshire East for skiing and zip line tours or Zoar Outdoor and Crabapple Rafting for rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, zip line tours, etc. Kenneth Dubuque State Forest is a 5 minutes walk. Good for hiking, biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.

Drag a lawn chair over to the pond, fetch a glass of wine and watch the antics of geese, ducks and maybe a beaver while the sun sets beyond the pond. The babbling brook has places where kids can play in an old swimming hole, catch minnows, and build rock dams. House sleeps 8-two rooms with double beds, one room with a queen bed, and bunk beds and a fold out couch in the basement for young people.

New equipment and furnishings: House has a new Energy Star washer, dryer, dishwasher and new carpeting in the living-room and dining-room. Wi-Fi satellite internet is available and reaches the back yard and the nearby pond and brook areas.
We have a new gas grill, a small fire pit and a folding picnic table along with many outdoor chairs. Mitsubishi heat pump for heat and AC added in 2017.

Filthy
House had cobwebs and filthy light switches that’s just the beginning. Don’t stay here if you are a clean person. Also way too many chores why charges all the fees if you want the people staying there to do all the cleaning work? Pond across the street looked nice. They have you remove the sheets but fold up the bed spread, so I’m guessing they don’t wash they bed spreads? Same with pillow shams? Gross.

Peaceful Getaway
Flight's End was more wonderful than we anticipated. The home is cozy with all the things you need for a relaxing visit. We enjoyed the beauty of the area, the excitement of the pond (kayaking, otters, beavers and ducks) and took some of the helpful suggestions of our hosts. We will definitely be bac!

Peaceful country home with serene babbling brook!
Sweet house is in the middle of NOWHERE. Didn't see a car or other human for days but the serenity was perfect. The handicapped accessible ramp to sliding doors worked perfectly for my 89 year old mom. Her first floor bedroom had no steps (photo on the listing shows a couple steps but they're on the opposite end of the room leading to the quaint "pond-view room" complete with 2 pair of binoculars.)The house has everything needed with ample extra blankets, towels etc and everything imaginable in the kitchen except we didn't find flatware until checkout as that was in a drawer facing OUT of the kitchen, not IN. Queen beds in each of the 2 upstairs bedrooms were VERY FIRM so I had a cheap 1.5" get memory foam topper delivered along with groceries by Instacart.I have serious spine/back problems so usually pack an unopened 2" topper even for upscale hotels or the in the Caribbean. Its placed under the mattress pad so I leave it for comfort of next guests or as a "tip" for housekeepers. The house has a well organized book with instructions about everything. WIFI is sufficient but bring a booster if that's important for you.My family gathered for buriel of my sister's ashes nearby. The babbling brook was perfect for peaceful relaxation and we all enjoyed our stay despite the sad circumstances. Was able to bring my dog & could have pitched a tent if needed for more people. Host is very kind and helpful but not intrusive. This is a well-used homey house but not luxurious.Perfect for us!

Great location!
We loved the location! The property was beautiful! Loved the pond & wildlife. The house was just like the photos. 3 comfortable bedrooms, and bare mattresses in the basement. (We all enjoyed the upstairs bedrooms.) The only bummer was that the washing machine was broken.... which was one of the reasons we chose this house, since we were in town for work and needing to wash our work clothes throughout our stay.

Best stars display and shooting star sighting
Even though we did not spend daytime in the house, the night celestial view was breathtaking. I don’t remember seeing so many stats ever, and the shooting star sighting was worth the mosquito bites. We hope to return soon. Thank you !

My grandparents bought the properties in Hawley in the 1920 and I spent summers in Hawley as a youth and my kids grew up spending vacations in Hawley, and now the grandkids come to visit.

Why they chose this property

I bought this house for my parents to live in and planned to retire into it when they no longer needed it. I retired while they were still in it and I bought the house of my aunt and uncle, just up the road.

My cousin lives next door to me and just up the road from this rental house. He is a wealth of information about the area and the countryside. He'll be sure to stop by if you are outside.

What makes this property unique

What is unique about this area is its quiet. No stores, no street lights, no stop signs. But, there are plenty of birds, turkeys, moose, bear, deer, rabbits, hawks. You get the idea i think. The stars are very bright at night and the brook can be heard from far-away. Trees, stone walls, ponds abound. Hawley's population is a whopping 320 hearty souls. Just sitting and enjoying the sights and sounds of nature is rejuvenating.
