“And into the forest I go to lose my mind and find my soul.”
- John Muir
The space
Amenities include: Beautiful, but humble 140 square feet cabin, wood stove, with solar lights and an outdoor covered kitchen with a 2 burner gas cook stove, granite counter top, solar patio lights, solar shower, 100 watt solar array that powers lights, USB ports and small 12v DC appliances. We decorate with battery candles to provide low ambient light. An outdoor kitchen that has the basics to prepare a camp meal on the stove or Grill hotdogs and marshmallows over the open fire. A large stone fire ring, chairs, and total privacy. 5 gallons of potable water for each night you spend is provided.
“Nothing is more beautiful than the loveliness of the woods before sunrise.”
- George Washington Carver
There is 1 futon (you bring warm sleeping bag/bedding/NO bedding provided in this space) and A loft that has a full mattress, ideal for kids or gear. Bringing your own bedding is not optional, it's a must. We can provide towels and bedding linens for $30 per person for those traveling from a distance. The bathroom is a comfortable, hand crafted outhouse with a solar shower in the great outdoors (you bring towel). There is nothing like the freedom of an open shower under the branches of fir and spruce. Bring your sleeping bag/sheets, towel, food, knapsack and mind open to inspiration.
“Come to the woods, for here is rest. There is no repose like that of the green deep woods. Sleep in forgetfulness of all ill.”
- John Muir
Minutes from Acadia, Ellsworth, Bangor, Belfast. For those who desire privacy, beauty and peace. Ideal for writers, painters, hikers, retreaters, honeymooners, romantic get-aways, photographers, nature lovers, and revelers of summer Maine fun. A quick 10 minute orientation on arrival and the forest is yours the rest of the time.
“Between every two pines is a doorway to a new world.”
- John Muir
The cabin is fully outfitted with a woodstove for heat (including firewood for your splitting enjoyment--lessons provided by request), propane stove for cooking, solar lights to illuminate the kitchen at night, small outdoor kitchen with granite counter, cookware and kitchen basics, solar lights for overhead lighting, small dining table, several canvas chairs, strong cooler for cold items, game of cards, small library, and an outhouse complete with solar shower.
“I’ve loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.”
-Galileo Galilei
Bringing a warm sleeping bag will enhance your stay in cool Maine nights or when the mist rolls in. The key to staying warm is closing the windows at sundown, and then feeding the fire in the woodstove. We provide hardwood, you provide the human power to get it in the wood in the stove. Splitting and hauling.
There is no WIFI, microwave, oven, TV, game station, refrigerator, ice maker, dishwasher, jungle gym, slot machine, baby changing table, electric car charger, etc. This is a cabin in the woods to get away from those trappings.
