This cabin is perfection—fantastic vibe, wonderful amenities, clean, well stocked/organized, and the location on the quiet side of Door County, right on Lake Michigan, is absolutely perfect. We stayed for one week and had everything we needed.
What a great place! It was a delightful experience.
Ample room. Great ambiance. Terrific location. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

Thank you, Peter, for taking time to write a review. Carolyn and I do our best to make Killasonna a comfortable base from which to explore and enjoy all that Door County has to offer. We hope that you return in the future.
We really enjoyed our stay at Killasonna Lodge. John sent us all the information we needed about the cabin and Door County with recommendations for things to do and where to eat. The location is perfectly situated for everything you want to do. The property is exceptional with amazing views. We enjoyed coffee on the porch in the morning and sitting out by the lake and we loved the peaceful quiet surroundings.
What a wonderful home and location. Best place we’ve stayed in Door County because of how peaceful and quiet the location is which made it very easy to relax and unwind. Spent many hours on the back porch and by the lake. It’s obvious the owner cares and maintains the home and yard very well! A beautiful and unique home inside and out.Very happy with our stay and experience!
My husband and I spent a week at the cabin. It is beautiful inside and out! It was very clean and had everything a person could need. The back deck was so relaxing and an awesome place to relax. The bed was very comfortable. We had such a great time exploring the area.
Killasonna Lodge was our vacation home for 7 days, accommodating 5 adults. The ambiance was ideal if you cherish a peaceful, spacious and quiet waterfront lodge in nature. The beds were quite comfortable, and the kitchen was well equipped, but it took a while to find the pie server for our cherry pie comparisons! Stargazing was extraordinary and we loved having the old fashioned folding beach chairs. The lodge is ideally located on the peninsula, offering privacy, yet convenient to many attractions. Our hosts provided meticulous details on what is expected of renters and recommendations of things to do. We would definitely consider staying here again.
We had a lovely stay at Killasona Lodge. The amenities were excellent and much care was taken in there selection. Pictures have a had time describing the true uniqueness of its design. The simplicity yet comfort will surely bring us back for more.

We're so glad to know that you enjoyed your vacation at Killasonna Lodge. And thank you for posting a review!

Home was right on the lake. Interior was well-appointed and well-equipped. We are cyclists and the lightly traveled road was a nice place to start a ride. The owner was very helpful with suggestions about where to go and where to eat.
We really enjoyed our stay last week at this cabin. So spacious and peaceful. It was wonderful that it was wooded and very private. Great access to the lake for our daughter to swim with us. A great fire pit and porch to listen to the waves. It also was still close enough to go to many of the other popular spots in Door County. We definitely loved it! Thank you again!

We're always pleased to know that others get as much enjoyment out of staying at Killasonna as we do. The lake seems particularly nice for swimming this year. Enjoy the rest of your summer and thanks again for renting Killasonna. Please keep us in mind for another time ...

The property was just as described. John was very easy to communicate with about the property and the local area. The house was very comfortable and suited us well. Jacksonport is one of the quieter towns which was great for us. The house is within 2 miles of two of the best swimming beaches. We hope to stay again. This was one of our favorite properties.
We enjoyed campfires by the shore. Biking and kayaking to Cave Point Park and Whitefish Dunes State Park. Enjoyed coffee on the porch and on the terrace. Away from the shopping areas and more tourist activities. Watched hummingbirds. Great back-to-nature spot. . Kitchen equipped well for cooking.

Thank you for your review. We're glad that you enjoyed your vacation at Killasonna. Have a wonderful rest of the summer.
My husband and I were looking for a quiet retreat and found that and more at Killasonna Lodge. It was so peaceful and tranquil. We absolutely loved sitting by the lake and listening to the waves crashing against the shores. It was hard to leave! The owners Survival Guide was very helpful...we are now a few pounds heavier after being introduced to Schartner’s Pies! Delicious! We would definitely go back.

We are so glad to know that you and your husband enjoyed your time at Killasonna. It may seem silly, but we are always pleased to know that others enjoy it as much as we do. Being about 700 feet from the road and shielded by so many trees provides a great degree of privacy and tranquility. Please consider coming back. You are more than welcome. Finally, thank you for taking time to write a review. All the best, John & Carolyn
I'm 56 years old and have been coming to Door County since I was a little kid. I have literally stayed all over the peninsula. Hands down, Killasonna has been one of my favorites. It's on a lovely lot. The access to the water is amazing. The home is well tended to and (unlike most rentals) well appointed and furnished. The owners are lovely and communicative. STAY HERE. You will not regret it.

Wonderful!
My husband booked a short weekend getaway for my 30th birthday. We had an amazing time in Door County/Killasonna Lodge. Everything was as described-no surprises. The owners made the stay so easy. Plenty of directions and details on the property itself and Door County. The lodge is beautiful. My favorite thing was falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing, and having coffee on the deck in the morning. My husband also loved the property. We plan to go back again asap.

Dear Chelsea,
Thank you for such a nice review, especially in light of the fact that the oven was broken. (The next time you come you will find a new 5-burner model.) We're always happy when others enjoy Killasonna as much as we do.
All the best,
John & Carolyn
We had a wonderful week at Killasonna Lodge! The home is just beautifully constructed and the layout is perfect for our 3 generation family, giving my mom her own space on the main level. The kitchen is the best stocked of any rental we’ve ever stayed at, from utensils to spices and condiments!
The fire pit by the water is fabulous as well, although the view from the porch is also excellent.
We love the location, our family prefers the quiet side and proximity to Cave Point.
We were a little surprised to find no television, but ended up not missing it at all!
The cabin was very clean and the owners are easy to reach and give a lot of information and helpful hints about the area.
Beautiful lakefront cabin with amazing hosts. It's spacious and cozy at the same time. Check in was easy, the cabin was clean and ready to go with firewood so we could get the fireplace going right away! Check out was just as simple with clear directions. John and Carolyn are responsive and provide tons of local recommendations. The location is great- close enough to the city to get a drink or a bite to eat on a whim, but remote enough to enjoy hearing the waves crashing from the lake and to see the stars on a clear night. Definitely recommend Killasonna to anyone looking for a great weekend getaway in Door County.

We're glad that you enjoyed your stay at Killasonna Lodge. It's always rewarding to know that others enjoyed themselves. Have a wonderful summer!
Cabin is great and pictures represent it well. Really beautiful architecture. Very quiet and secluded we did not see another neighbor during the stay. Nice indoor and outdoor sitting areas with small rock beach.
A couple tips, the cabin has a charcoal grill instead of propane, so you need to bring in your own supplies to use. Also, water has a lot of minerals, there is a sign on the washing machine that clothes may get rust colored from using, which did happen during stay. Last, would definitely recommend water shoes if plan to use rock beach, especially for kids.
The location is fantastic. The house is right on Lake Michigan and in the woods. You can walk to the town for supplies, or to either the county or state parks, which are great. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, utensils, etc. so cooking was super easy. The pictures reflect pretty accurately how pleasant the house is. Being so close to the lake, it enjoys a more moderate microclimate than inland. When inland felt more muggy and hot, it was extremely pleasant inside and outside the house. If you like being in nature, you should enjoy it.
Well appointed, incredibly authentic with lovely details. And a back porch that might be the best in the region. John was an excellent host, very communicative and helpful, right now to a Survival Guide with everything from biking routes to restaurants to parks and local attractions. He even emailed us during our stay to let us know about a concert in town while we were there. Incredibly thoughtful! We loved Killasonna and will remember it forever. Relaxing in the comfortable back porch chairs, looking out through the woods onto Lake Michigan, sipping freshly brewed coffee from the Blue Horse Cafe in Fish Creek will be a simple treasured memory for years to come. Thank you for the incredible hospitality.

About the host
Hosted by John Brzezinski
We are both Chicago natives, now living in Evanston, IL. Carolyn is an architect and formerly a municipal building official. John managed major design and construction projects for Northwestern University. We are now semi-retired, operating a business called University Icons. In a nutshell, we sell fine art photographs of iconic university architecture. The business draws on John’s long standing avocation of photography, our combined enjoyment of travel, our a mutual interest in architecture. We each have two daughters from previous marriages.
Why they chose this property
After years of vacationing in Door County, we began looking at cottages and land in the summer of 2002, with the idea of either buying or building a summer cabin. We clocked hundreds of miles, over many weekends, driving back and forth across the peninsula in search of the right property. Nothing seemed just right. Carolyn had a yearning for a cabin on the lake, or at least a view, but our budget was slim. Eventually we found ourselves along the Lake Michigan shore, staring into dense woods. In the foreground a sign read, For Sale - 1.5 acres. Curiosity forced us to take a walk through the woods. Of course, we fell in love with it the moment we stepped on shore. The price of the land exceeded our budget (Isn't that always the case?), but we had fallen in love and there was no stopping us. We concocted a scheme: We would rent the place out to vacationers and enjoy it ourselves when it was free.
As soon as our offer was accepted, we began sketching potential designs like mad. We closed on the property in early December, 2002 and cleared the woods for the driveway before Christmas. Construction started the following March, and by the end of the year, the bulk of construction was finished. On January 1, 2004 we launched our website and signed up with VRBO. We spent that spring building, varnishing and hanging doors, varnishing the cabinets, shopping for furniture, etc. It was a photo finish. When our first guests arrived that spring, the paint on the shed doors was still wet.
Killasonna Lodge is situated in an area that was developed in 1922 by an enterprising young woman named Annie Reynolds. She called the plat of subdivision “The Killasonna Plat.” We borrowed the name to commemorate her vision.
What makes this property unique
A guiding design principal was "not one square inch of drywall." Killasonna is built entirely with lumber harvested and sawn in Door County. All exterior wood is cedar and all interior wood is pine. The rough sawn wood gives Killasonna a decidedly warm and rustic ambiance.
Meanwhile, Carolyn swears that the best therapy is to simply collect kindling in the woods. Once you are in the "flow," time evaporates from your conscience.
