Perfect vacation getaway

Our family couldn’t have asked for a better vacation. This Beautiful home on Birch Island is spacious and has everything you could need. The lake views from the deck and seating area are spectacular. The water was pristine and we spent many hours each day swimming and jumping off the float on the north side of the property. The deck is spacious and allows you to spread out a bit and to find both sun and shade throughout the day. We were fortunate that we probably had the best weather of the summer with no rain throughout the 7 day stay. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with our family. Deron & Jen

Wonderful as always

Weather was a real factor this year. This is a splendid place to be when it's hot and sunny. Swimming, boating, eating on the deck... all fantastic. We were disappointed by the cool weather and rain. The house is so great to stay in. Lots of room for the 6 of us and plenty of privacy. Monopoly game is a blessing (and a curse?) in the rainy weather.

Great house for extended family visit

We love Birch Island, Thompson Lake and this house. It's got everything we could ever hope to have in a rental house for the grandparents, parents and little children. We will surely be heading back there next summer for another week on the lake.

Serene and beautiful

A well-appointed, beautiful, and private home with gorgeous views from front and back. We had grandparents and children with us, and the house was the perfect size for everyone to spread out but still be cozy. The island was covered with blueberry bushes in peak season, and we spent many mornings picking them for pancakes. The kids caught some fish, we all enjoyed tubing and swimming, as well as kayaking and canoeing. We could easily have stayed the whole summer! Fabulous vacation and we'd love to come back. It was surprisingly easy to rent a pontoon boat and get to and from shore. I'm so glad we didn't let the island factor deter us. Thanks for a great week!

Excellent Family Getaway

This was our first family vacation on an island, so we were a little worried about the travel. However, the owners provided move-in and move-out information and videos which were very helpful in getting there efficiently. The cabin was very well equipped and nicely furnished. There were stunning views on both sides of the house. Lot's of wildlife sightings from assorted birds passing by the island to even a beaver at the dock! We had a great experience and would recommend this property to friends and family looking to relax and get away from it all!

Beautiful lake and island, wonderful family house

This house on this island in this lake is about as good as any of us could imagine. We had a hot and sunny week in August to enjoy swimming, kayaking, grilling and eating out on the deck. The grandkids (ages 5 and 21 months) had a ball and as long as we kept them in their life jackets they could run around freely between dock and beach. The house is large, beautifully and comfortably furnished and well supplied: plenty of good pots, pans, dishes, cooking tools in the kitchen, lots of games and toys for the kids, nice linens and pillows on the beds, new bath towels and a pile of well used and perfect beach towels (new ones make you worry about dirt so we prefer the obviously used ones). Access to the island requires a boat which we rented from Thompson Lake Marina, a very friendly outfit at the near end of the lake. Picking up the boat, parking the cars, getting out stuff to the island and getting inside the house seemed complicated as we thought about it all from afar but everything turned out to be very easy. The pontoon boat we rented was super. Lots of room, quiet motor yet powerful enough to tow a tube, a nice ladder so you could swim off it, a canopy so you could be out of the sun or rain, perfect for fishing. We had a wonderful and very relaxing week. Left the lake only once (to get a few groceries) and otherwise stayed put in our little paradise. Thinking we'd like to make this a yearly tradition.

This is my families summer home. I grew up in New England and have spent every summer since I was a child on Thompson Lake. I now have children and we have wonderful memories of Birch Island and this lake.

Why they chose this property

The island was my mother's dream. She bought the island and deigned and built the house. It was quite an undertaking moving the heavy logs over the ice in the winter and running electricity under water! But the end result was a stunning setting and beautiful unique. It is peaceful and serene and makes for a wonderful get-away from it all. But with the water activities, it is also a fun place for the family. We have very happy memories in this house!

What makes this property unique

The house has a lot of character starting with the log-cabin A-frame design. The cathedral ceilings with glassed frontage bring tons of natural light and expanse. The center of the home housing a massive hand-picked stone fireplace. The views of the water are all setting doesn't get any better then this!

The property is wooded with many wild blue berry bushes for the picking. You can get plenty of sun but also nicely shaded.
