We enjoyed our stay and the location was perfect, as it was close to the museums we visited in DC. The house was clean and fit our family well. We had a couple things we had to reach out to the hosts about, but they were quick to respond and very helpful. The only thing that did not work for us was the private parking space, which seemed a little small/tight for my sister's van, so we parked on the street out front.
Hilltop Hideaway was very nice, and Rhianna was a great host! She made the check-in and check-out processes smooth and was quick to respond to all of our messages during the stay. We really enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend it.
The property was presented as advertised. Clean, bright, and comfortable! My family of 4 + the dog baby were all very pleased.
The hosts were lovely. The hosts were attentive and responsive through the VRBO platform starting with the reservation / check in process all the way through check out.
We had initial problems of bathroom door locks, glass door lock outside the main door and then in one of the bedrooms, there was a parental lock for TV. Property managers did ask me to repair the locks but since i was with my family, i couldnt do that. Property as such was good. Parking is very cumbersome if you have a van in the backyard. i think a normal sedan car sedan it should be good. So if I ignore all this the stay was good.

Needs some attention
It did not appear there had been any cleaning done after the person before us. There were dirty dishes in the dishwasher, crumbs on the counter, and open food in the fridge. We were there as a family of 5 and there was little seating in the living room so we could not all hang out together. There were no batteries in the remotes and some of the TVs were missing power cords. The owner was responsive to messages and gave continued instructions on check in/put.

Thank you for your honest review, Danna. We're sorry the property wasn't properly prepared for your arrival. Dirty dishes, open food, and missing remote batteries are details that should have been caught by our team. We take cleanliness seriously, and this clearly fell short. We have addressed these gaps with our cleaning team and added additional inspection steps to our turnover process. We appreciate the kind words about our responsiveness and hope to have the opportunity to host you again under much better circumstances.

Thanksgiving - not as expected
The property needs some work. TV in kitchen and downstairs does not work. Showerhead downstairs needs to be replaced. Chair in living room broken on arrival. Upon arrival the washer was stuffed full of wet sheets and towels. No lamps beside beds. Dirty washcloth found in downstairs bathroom. Dishes in cabinet were put up wet and had standing water in the bowls. Broken glass found on floor in upstairs bedroom. During planning asked owner about pots and pans since I was cooking for 30. Told they were fine. Definitely not fine. Terrible pots and pans. Worst VRBO stay yet.

Thank you for the detailed feedback, Carla. We sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered with the non-working TVs, the wet laundry left by the previous guests, and the condition of some items, which were not acceptable and fell below our standards. We have since replaced and upgraded cookware, addressed the TV issues, and reinforced our cleaning checklist to catch these items before every stay. We also apologize for the miscommunication about the kitchen equipment; we should have confirmed exactly what was available rather than giving you a general assurance. Your feedback directly led to improvements, and we appreciate you taking the time to share it.
RATS RATS RATS!!!!The worst experience EVER!!! We get to the home at 3pm to check in. We go up to the front steps and there was a little girl and a lady in the window. We knock and they don’t come to the door. There were items on the counter. I call and say we have to give the cleaning people more time. It is now 3:20 and I go back up to the door and put the code into the pad open the door and no one comes to the door but we hear people. I go back to my vehicle. As we are sitting in our vehicle we see rats on the front step that I was just on!! Nope not staying here!!! Called the property manager and they reached out to the owners and they refused to refund our stay because the rats were not in the home. They were outside the home and they aren’t responsible for the outside of the home. What a joke. You are responsible for anything on your property. Called again and was told it’s VRBOs problem. Talked to a manager and after 1 hour 30 minutes all that was refunded to me was 100. They refuse to protect the consumer and was protecting the owner. Out 3 days stay and had to pay for another hotel. Was here for a memorial of my husbands work partner that was killed in the line of duty while he performed life saving measures and this experience truly put more stress on our family that we didn’t need and financially couldn’t afford. Do better VRBO and property owner!!!

We appreciate you sharing your experience and are sorry your visit did not meet expectations. To clarify for future guests: our property receives professional pest control service quarterly, and no rodents have ever been found inside the home. Washington DC is widely known to have an urban rodent presence in public areas, which is unfortunately outside any property owner's control. Regarding your arrival, our cleaning team was completing an extended turnover from the previous group and needed approximately 30 additional minutes. We proactively offered a goodwill credit for the inconvenience. We take cleanliness and guest comfort seriously and are proud of the many guests who have had wonderful stays here.
