Spruce Run Cabin, a wooded retreat on the mountain
Take a break from everyday life, and escape to this unique and quiet retreat in the Catoctin Mountains. The traditional chink log cabin is located on 25 acres of mostly wooded terrain off Highway 17 near Wolfsville, Maryland, less than an hour and a half from D.C./Baltimore. The hosts live on the property, but the cabin is situated where it feels very private. The cabin faces the woods and there is a private trail down to the creek.
The first floor of the cabin is an open floor plan with living room, dining room, fully furnished kitchen, desk and entrance to the front and back deck. The back deck has a gas grill(with utensils) and sitting area. The covered front porch is a great spot to sit and listen to the rain or watch wildlife.
The second floor has two bedrooms and full bathroom. The master is a large room with a queen poster bed, couch and closet. There is a small deck with bistro table, perfect for an evening cocktail watching the fireflies. The smaller bedroom has a full size bed. Bed linens are percale cotton and depending on the weather, topped with either a cotton quilt or linen/cotton down duvets.
The basement is the entertainment hub with a foosball table, games, puzzles and Roku TV. Sleeping accommodations for over 4 guests are available on the pull out full size couch and rollaway twin bed. The washer and dryer are located in the additional bathroom located in the basement.
Enjoy the firepit out front or walk down the hill to the creek. There is almost zero light pollution (if you turn off the exterior lights) at night so stargazing is incredible.
Kitchen: The kitchen has an electric range/oven, refrigerator, microwave, Ninja blender, toaster oven, toaster, small crock-pot and coffee maker. Utensils, pots/pans, baking pans, glasses and dishes: it has everything you need for whipping up a meal. Coffee is provided and you can choose between a Keurig (reusable pods) or a french press. Pantry is stocked with basic spices and olive oil. There is no dishwasher but soap, sponge, towels and drying rack are provided.
Bathroom: The main bathroom has a tub shower, sink and a toilet. Cotton towels, paraben free shampoo/conditioner, homemade soap and other essentials are provided.
Cleaning supplies: Dishwashing soap, garbage bags, household cleaner, paper towels and vacuum are provided

We had such a nice stay for the weekend! The place was absolutely lovely, from the inside to all the way out to the creek. Definitely a place i will keep an eye on for future getaways!
What a wonderful cabin.....so warm and homey. We had a great weekend. Gillian's hospitality was so appreciated. We had a small vehicle glitch and she was willing to do what she could to help us out. (Thankfully the problem resolved itself). Highly recommend the Cabin!!! Very clean and very cozy!!
We loved everything about this house: the fresh flowers left by the host, the cleanliness, the fact that it was supplied with everything we needed, the location in the woods with easy access to a stream. This is definitely a place we want to return to.
This cabin was an ideal space for my 3 day retreat. First impression was how clean it is. The space would easily accommodate four people but was not overwhelming for spending alone-time. Location is remote; in the woods, quiet, natural.
Beautiful log cabin in woods, near Catoctin and Cunningham Falls. The house has very comfortable indoor and outdoor spaces with porch, deck and balcony. Inside, the living/dining area is spacious. There are toys and games for kids. Bedding and bath were very comfortable.
Beautiful 1880 log cabin in the woods close to a stream. We enjoyed sitting on each of the 3 decks listening to the migrating birds and the stream in the distance, playing records on the record player, and relaxing with nearly no sounds other than nature. The cabin was very clean and the main bed we used was very comfortable. Would definitely stay again.
This property is quiet, thoughtfully appointed, and close to great Maryland mountain hiking. It was such a lovely retreat from the madness of city life. What's not to like about Farm Fresh Eggs, cut flowers, private surroundings and relaxing in a comfy cabin with your best friend!
My girls and I went on a weekend getaway, and this is exactly what we needed! Beds are so comfortable. We love it was so quiet! Host was very easy to get in contact with. I will return to this property with my husband to enjoy the outdoors! Thank you!
I had a wonderful weekend getaway at Spruce Run cabin. The host’s instructions for how to reach the cabin were clear and informative. I had no problem finding it. The cabin itself is beautifully maintained, so cozy and everything we needed for a comfortable stay. My toddler and I really enjoyed the front porch swing. And the record player was a fun touch! We didn’t get a chance to use the fire pit or see the creek due to rain but definitely will be booking again!
What an incredible little piece of paradise. Everything was just as described in listing. The farm fresh eggs were a treat.
Even though the cabin is close to Rt 70, it is very quiet and secluded. Plenty of time to rest and relax.
A nice little 1 mile hike around the property, quick trip to Cunningham Falls ( and an invigorating 3 mile hike) and best of all a campfire.
We were thoroughly pleased.
Extremely clean and well appointed chic cabin in the woods
The guidance provided by the owner was very well put together and easy to understand to get to the cabin. She lives nearby and we got to meet her sweet daughter, Ava, who didnt approach the pups too close without permission which is appreciated. The cabin had all that was necessary to make meals and didnt have a hard to maintain checklist of what to do before leaving that some rentals do. Great scenery driving there and staying there and would recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area.
Trip near Appalachian mountians and close to Wash DC area. Fredrick MD
Very very nice cabin, 2 levels. Newer but nice rustic look inside and out. Plenty of ammenities and a nice smaller town of Myerville MD closeby. Close to a service station with snacks and friendly service too! Dont miss the seafood, pizza and misc restaurant in Myersville. Great food, superb staff and very nice atmosphere. God willing we will be back. The cabin is romantic and nice for couples, families too! Take it easy on the narrow roads, slow down if your a speeder... Relax and enjoy the great scenery!!
Spruce Run Cabin is a classic "cabin in the woods." The furnishings are fine, although the second bedroom could use a bureau for clothes. We were there in a very cold weekend in January and although some of the heat was on when we arrived, it took a day before the cottage was at a comfortable temperature. Also, it would be very helpful to have a car with all wheel drive; the entrance/exit can be very slippery.
This was the best way to disconnect from our busy lives and reconnect as a family. The cabin was super clean and had everything we needed. The owner literally thought of everything!!
Our 2 teenage kids had no problems disconnecting from their phones because we had tons to do. Plenty of good fishing spots within a 15-20 minute drive. We even used the fire pit one night and made hotdogs and smores.
I loved that it was pet-friendly. Our dog enjoyed being out with us without worrying about traffic or other people.
We will definitely be booking again this year!
