A wonderful rustic and peaceful place to get away with beautiful views of the river. Co-owners were very pleasant and easy to communicate with. Thank you, we enjoyed our stay and will be back!
My husband and I sought a few days of privacy, tranquility, and nature with our dogs, and the Riverside Retreat delivered perfectly! This beautiful and unique property offers direct access to the Allegheny River, making it an idyllic getaway. The owners were delightful, and the rental provided a wide range of activities to enjoy. I’m excited to bring my 10-year-old nephew and his friends next time—they will absolutely love it. We will definitely be returning!
This property really is so beautiful. The pictures do not do the space justice. We traveled with a group of 11 and our 2 dogs and there was so much more space and beds than we used. The outdoor entertaining/dining/firepit area was well lit for nighttime activities and had a pool table that we spent so much time using! The teens were happy that despite being in the middle of nature, the phone service was great. The property is SO private and the access to the Allegheny River was very easy with a large flat grassy lawn leading up to the river bank and a sturdy dock to enter the water. The river is so clean, mostly walkable and had a good enough current to tie up with tubes to lounge and to kayak (which were graciously provided by the host), but not too strong that we felt unsafe letting the younger kids wade around. There is a deeper area of the river with a stronger current but it was on the far side of the river away from the property. Still close enough for us to walk out and enjoy a more intense swim. The area also has plenty of local spots to get food, drinks and supplies so you are not stuck in the middle of nowhere. We love a rustic outdoorsy vacation and this checked all the boxes, Even a bear sighting on the final day (once our dogs were gone!) so it was a perfect way to end the week! Oh and the owner/host is right on top of his messages so was available for any questions we had! Great experience in a beautiful area of our country.
This property exceeded our expectations and then some. We wanted a fun, end of summer weekend and this was a perfect ending. There is literally anything you could possibly need and more! The views are absolutely stunning and so much space! Kayaking, swimming, canoeing, fishing, football, s’mores, mountain pies and plenty of space for the kids to find their own space to retreat to when they wanted a break. They spent a lot of time looking for crawfish and exploring the river bank. We cooked each night under the pavilion, which is an AMAZING space. Our most favorite part was the clear evidence of family memories and fun that have been created here over the years. We will absolutely return and recommend this stay to anyone looking for a charming and rustic stay. (Also, check out the artwork spread around the property…. best artists on the Allegheny!)
Family Fun Amongst the Trees and on the Allegheny River
We come home to Pittsburgh every summer to visit our hometown and big families. To make it more fun this year, we decide to go “up camp!” I loved tent camping and staying in my godparents cabin as a kid and was thrilled to return and show off the fun and beauty of the area to my kids, husband and in laws.
We had a bit of a rough start dealing with a fallen tree blocking the driveway and a downed power line but handled that and got to making fun memories the next day. The property offers many opportunities for fun in and out of the water. The fire pit area offers both covered and uncovered areas to sit, talk and gather around the fire or enjoy a meal on one of the many picnic tables. My BIL was able to bring his camper and that allowed us to spread out and gave us more space. The bunk house was great for all the kiddos and main house bed was good for my husband and I. The only thing that I really missed was having an oven but that’s because I like to do lots of baked goods and casseroles for large groups. To be honest the pictures on the property aren't as nice as the actual place. Hope to return again soon!
Rustic charm fit our family (Grandad with Son, Daughter-in-law, 6 Grandkids and our pack of dogs) very well. Bunkhouse perfect for the Grands. Games and DVDs galore for the one day we got rained out. So many Kayaks and floats we didn't even need to pull out one of the many canoes.Kitchen has everything one would need to feed a horde. Caught in a previous note that it didn't have an oven, so we came prepared with a crockpot for a couple of meals.Although out in the boonies, a number of grocery stores in either direction, including the ubiquitous Dollar Stores, as well as restaurants. Head's up, NOTHING opens before 7AM or stays open much after 8PM including gas stations - WalMart in Titusville being one of the rare exceptions.Host checked in with us several times to ensure all was well and give out a few tips (local spring just a few miles down the road for drinking water). Great vacation spot and accommodations - will definitely repeat.
