About this property
Orcas Island, Nami-an #221
*** This home is people friendly, and not pet friendly. No children under the age of 12 years of age are allowed ***
When your tastes run to the contemporary, you’ll find this sophisticated Doe Bay cabin a jewel of design integrity (To learn about the architect's concept, go to www.archdaily/157449 - Nami an is the featured property!) Nami An has a distinctive minimal esthetic with Asian influences. This "cabin" on Doe Bay is a light-filled volume of space, created with the vision that every detail should be precise and harmonious.
The Asian theme begins when you remove your shoes and don slippers (thoughtfully provided) to tread lightly on the bamboo floors. Furnishings are sleek and contemporary; shoji screens take the place of swinging doors. Bathing is a special experience as well - you’ll step up to sink down into a deep Japanese soaking tub. One side of the shower is a glass wall with a view into a small fenced garden. There’s even an outdoor shower in this courtyard where you can feel completely part of the natural atmosphere.
The main level of the home encompasses the bathing room and powder room, a well-equipped kitchen with paperstone counters, the dining area, and a bedroom with a floating queen-size futon bed. Upstairs, there's an open loft with an additional queen futon bed; shoji screens are installed to provide visual privacy for those sleeping on this upper level. But do note that Nami An is intended for two or three adult guests to enjoy. (The sides of the stairway are open and not suitable for small children.)
Nami An has a beautiful waterfront outlook where nature abounds. Complete privacy is provided to the left of the home by a wooded area that attracts deer, eagles, and rabbits. The two neighboring homes to the right may be screened from view with the use of window shades and shoji screens.
Forward of the home, there is a cleared path that leads to a rocky outcrop at the shoreline. When the water recedes in low tide, you can clamber along the waterside and study the wide diversity of sea creatures left behind in the pockets of the rocks.
Nami An has a great location on the sunny southeastern tip of Orcas Island, within a short walk of Doe Bay Resort where there's a convenience store, a wonderful restaurant, and sauna (a day pass can be purchased at the Resort). It's a 15 minute drive to Olga and Moran State Park (super hiking!), about 30 minutes from Eastsound Village where there are lots of shops and dining, and a 45 minute drive from the Orcas Ferry Landing.
PLEASE NOTE that no children under the age of 12 years of age are allowed. Netflix is available through the Blue Ray DVD player. The Blue-Ray DVD player will recognize and play regular DVDs as well as CDs all through the stereo set up. The internet provider is "Doe Bay Internet User's Association" It provides a very quick and dependable connection. Also note there are 2 steps to the entrance of the home.

Thank you for your kind review! We're so glad you enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful views. We hope to host you again for another relaxing stay!
This is my favorite rental on Orcas. Beautifully situated at the end of a road, looks straight out to the water. Incredibly quiet and peaceful. The Japanese bath is lovely and all aspects of the house well thought out. The kitchen has everything you need, the gas grill is fun to cook at because is looks out on the water and trees. Lovely, peaceful stay.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted you enjoyed the peaceful setting and thoughtful touches throughout the home. We truly appreciate your kind words and hope to welcome you back to Orcas again!
This property has beautiful views and a great location. The landscaped parts of the yard are beautiful, and we walked down the little path at the end of the road to nightcaps on the rock each night overlooking the bay. We enjoyed the deer and the bats and the birds and the happy bees in the lavender. The Japanese style soaking tub and shower garden are lovely. The property management was very responsive and helpful. The house needs a bit of a refresh, though: the bamboo floors and counters were water damaged and scuffed (which meant they were hard to clean), the wall paint was marred, the shower door wouldn’t close fully because the wood was swollen from water, some shoji screens were off their tracks, and the kitchen worktop was really stained. The toilet seat was stained and smelly but apparently that will be replaced. We had to rewash dishes before use, but that’s on the previous guests not the owners. The views and exterior and location are high-end, the beds were comfortable, but the interiors just need a bit of love and work. It doesn’t come with slippers (despite listing note), so bring your own!

We fell completely in love with this property the moment we entered. The views are spectacular, especially from the loft bed; I can't think of a better way to wake u pin the morning. We really enjoyed the Japanese soaking tub and the relaxing ritual with it. Beds were very comfortable. Everything about Nami-an was perfect for our relaxing vacation.

Thank you so much for your comments about your stay at this wonderful home we welcome you back any time on the island.
My wife and I spent New Years at the property. The house is a beautiful, modern, Asian-inspired home with an amazing view of the water. A great place go read, write and relax. Looking forward to coming back. Thank you!
The loudness of the heating system is the only drawback to this property.

Really great! Beautiful views - great architecture. Our only criticism would be the impracticability of the bathroom. The master bedroom always had to go downstairs to use it and the shower - although highly aesthetic - really wasn't functional.

Dear Guest, Thank you for visiting the Islands and choosing to stay with us. We also appreciate your feedback here. Nami-An is a beautiful property but one with a certain modern aesthetic as you note. For many that will work great and it is indeed beautiful. For yourselves we understand you might have preferred something else. We sincerely hope you return and if you do, please contact us to help locate a property for you that will serve your needs a little better. Best Regards, General Manager
Pros:
- Beautiful location, end of the road, but still walking distance to Doe Bay Resort/Cafe.
- Great view from deck (but see cons).
- Well stocked kitchen, nice gas grill.
Cons:
- Lot between house and shoreline is owned by someone else, not developed (yet) but lots of no trespassing signs/warnings, so no beach access.
- Several other houses close by, not as private as you might expect.
- House is very small.
- Only one bathroom (downstairs), primary bedroom upstairs.
- No dishwasher. Kind of expect that in this price range.
- Indoor fireplace and outdoor fire pit are useless in the summer due to burn ban.
- Japanese shower is…interesting. Not for shy folks.

David,
Thank you for your positive responses and see my answering the negative items mentioned. Yes there are a number of small vacant and built on lots in this Doe Bay subdivision. Setbacks or not what we might assume. We have been careful to not promise water access for this property across the lot in front. There is a pathway not over that parcel in front, over the area east of the private property. This has not been a real detraction for most visitors we've welcomed over the many years this has been in our program. This home does not have a dishwasher, but again none was promised and this owner prefers it this way. This owner designed and built this home in the Japanese style of architecture and may folks really enjoy it just the way it is. We provide lots of pictures and a 360 degree view of the house. There should be no surprises. We are sorry that your stay did not match up to your expectations.

A stunning home in a quiet location was everything we were looking for in a getaway! There were heavy storms predicted and the management company called us to make sure we were OK with still going. We decided to go and hunker down with books, movies and wine! Sadly, we packed many DVD's and there was only a BluRay player. This was a pretty big set back as we really wanted to take this time to catch up on movies. Don't pack your CD's either. If you DO have BluRay's, then you are set with what seems to be a great audio system. The TV monitor is oddly placed, so you will have to move some furniture around to watch comfortably. Great pot bellied stove, view, soaking tub, beds, linens and so much more.

Dear Guest, Thank you for choosing to stay with us in the Islands; particularly at this beautiful property! We appreciate your feedback and have taken steps to ensure a similar situation will not occur in the future. We hope you will choose to return to the Islands and give us an opportunity to exceed your expectations! Best Regards, General Manager
Overall it was a very good 4 nights. A little mixup with the key code. Very clean. Comfortable bed. Excellent shower. Kitchen worked well, despite a confused microwave. Views though the floor to 2 story windows were terrific. Very light and sunny. We walked the 15 minutes over to Doe Bay Cafe for dinner the first evening. Also convenient for Moran State Park. Well, it's a small island; everything is convenient. 15 minute drive to the Brown Bear Bakery in East Sound. Great stay. Memorable really.
This property was spectacular. The views from the home are breathtaking. They had everything you could need for your stay. All the kitchen utensils and dishes you would need. The shower and soaking tub were always perfect after a long hike. The fire made the atmosphere even more cozy. We even had doe come right in the back yard. I've never been more relaxed on a vacation.
Great views. The furnishings and design lend a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. During most of our stay, we rarely saw any neighbors and had lots of privacy. We loved the deep soaking tub. The view from the house is the best feature.

Water view studio
The ad for this place is misleading. The first picture shows a little beach. The cover of the info book when you arrives shows two comfy chairs perched on the edge overlooking the water. There is no beach access from this property. There are warnings to not go outside the property lines, no trespassing signs for the path to the rocks above the little beach and clear outlines of the property lines that do not include a path to the beach or any beach access.
This place had everything we were hoping for! A beautiful water view just a few steps away, a kitchen with all the equipment you need, and board games to keep us busy. Really beautiful place!
This spot is a true delight. From the porch we spotted seals, baby deer bounced across the lawn, and a neighborhood peacock. The house is beautiful and simple and wish we could have stayed a month.
