About this property

Lakefront Cabin in the High Country. Pet Friendly! Kid Friendly!

This cabin is your "Base Camp" for fun in the High Country....enjoy the scenic Blueridge Parkway, hiking, skiing, canoeing, kayaking, rock sliding and more. Shop and enjoy the dining experiences of nearby Blowing Rock. Catch a football game or a concert in nearby Boone.

About the cabin:
Enjoy your morning coffee on the deck, among the quiet pines, overlooking the lake. The cabin provides private kayaks and a canoe for exploring the serene Trout Lake, as well as fishing equipment (all fishing is catch and release). There is a smart TV, internet and wifi for streaming your favorite college football game. There is a rock climbing wall and arcade games for the kiddos. The kitchen is fully stocked and there is a grill.

About Powder Horn Mountain:
The community offers a lodge with a gym, game room, lakefront pool, playground and paddle boats. On the mountain, there is basketball, pickle pall, disc golf and hundreds of miles of hiking trails that lead to swimming holes. You will also have lots of curious, natural visitors including deer, birds and the occasional bear.

This is a dark sky community, so we ask that you turn off lights that are not being used in the evenings. You will really enjoy the stars.

Directions for Arrival:
Powder Horn Mountain is located in Deep Gap, NC. The approach involves winding mountain roads through some remote areas where cell service is spotty. Please load your GPS with the property address prior to embarking.

Follow your GPS to Elk Creek Rd. If you arrive at the back gate, keep going until you get to the front gate - you will see a gate house. Follow Powder Horn Mountain Rd until you get to a T intersection. Turn right on Hawk Nest and then soon after turn right onto Trout Lake Rd. Drive down and then up the mountain. You will pass Lakeview Rd on the right. The cabin is the second house on the right after Lakeview Rd. If you are not familiar with the area, it's best to arrive during the day.

We are 15 miles outside of Boone and Blowing Rock.

Wonderful Mountain Retreat

Overall, I had a really lovely time. The hosts were great and communicative, the check-in process was simple, and the property was gorgeous. We really enjoyed the access to the small lake behind the property and the access to fishing equipment. The only thing I would say is that you shouldn't trust Google to tell you where the property is, as it's actually a bit further down from where Google says.

Wonderful Autumn Vacation!

What a perfect visit! The only positive thing about leaving is being able to write a review so others can experience it as well. From the beginning, the communication with the host was above and beyond, we had all the information needed and more. The gated community was beautiful and easy to navigate. The house was very clean and had just about everything you can think of. My family and I had a great time fishing and kayaking at the lake, we hiked the nearby trails, and went to Boone for an afternoon stroll. I can’t recommend this place enough!
