Chad and Angela Hixon
About Chad and Angela Hixon
I am the manager/owner of Arlie Dale's Jug Liquors, a boutique wine shop, which is located on the front side of the building from Rocco's by the river vacation rental. Born and raised in the area my family purchased this property and we re-opened the Liquor Store in 2003. The Jug is the oldest liquor store location in Salida,CO. My wife Angela is a Clinical Aesthetician (skin care specialist) and owns and operates her studio in Salida and also Canon City. She is very particular and over-sees all housekeeping and takes a lot of pride in making sure the comforts of Rocco's is your best experience while staying there. We really loved living in the residence with our dogs for nine years before we turned it into a rental. Living there was absolutely amazing and a lot of fun, we are glad to let everyone else enjoy the same experience!
Chad and Angela Hixon purchased this Apartment in 2003
Why Chad and Angela Hixon chose Downtown Salida
We purchased this live/work property because at the time Salida had no liquor stores in the downtown area. This location had historically been a liquor store since prohibition ended except the two years prior to when we purchased it.
What makes this Apartment unique
Being an avid kayaker at the time of the purchase life couldn't have been much sweeter for me. Living in a live/work unit that is a liquor store steps from the Salida Whitewater Park was a dream come true! Working on the space with my family and making it ours has been an experience of a lifetime. We hope you enjoy it!

Great Downtown Nook
This place was wonderful. Communicative hosts, the location cannot be beat and amenities all you need. Wonderful rental that makes you love Salida even more if that is possible.
Great for a quick weekend get away.
Rocco's location in a historic building downtown was prefect for this trip. Everything is in walking distance... morning coffee, trails & restaurants. We injoyed a half day of skiing, some shopping, walking the dogs along the river and dinner all at a relaxed pace.
Overall great property in a perfect location. Clean and pet friendly. One of the few VRBO properties that was actually larger than the online pictures made it look.
Great location, quiet and restful
Roccos is easy walking distance from restaurants, shops, grocery stores, ice cream shop (right around the corner is Chill which is delicious with unique flavors), walking/bike paths.
It is very clean, with well appointed kitchen and comfy furniture. There are two space heaters, plus baseboard heating in the bathroom, so we felt plenty warm, despite frigid, subzero and single digit temperatures. Also loved the cozy blankets and comfortable couch and bed., washer/dryer, great shower, and other amenities. We planned to stay 2 nights, but there was a severe winter storm the day before we were supposed to leave, so luckily we were able to change our flight and stay a 3rd night. I left messages for both Chad and Angela and Angela did respond relatively quickly that we could stay, so that was great. My rating on responsiveness in general was average, since I had one question before I got there that I never got a response to, and one shortly after I checked in, with no response until the next day. My second question was about the wifi password--it was not on the desk, nor in the rental agreement, nor was it posted anywhere obvious, although there were numerous notes posted throughout the place. I eventually did find the wifi password in a notebook on the kitchen table that was jammed with restaurant menus and pages of other information, so it was a bit buried. Not a huge deal, but given the other notes that were posted on nearly every surface, each with a house rule (remove your shoes, dirt not good for the floor; don't let your pet on the bed or we'll fine you; check-out strictly at 11:00 or you'll be charged an extra day; etc), adding a note on the desk with the wifi password would have helped. Reading the various notes and warnings made me wonder if perhaps they had some bad renter experiences so were covering every base. I do understand it's important for renters to know the "house rules", but seeing so many scattered around the place detracted from the otherwise welcoming feel of the place. A win-win might be to post the "rules" on one prominently placed sheet, and leave just the "helpful" notes. For example, I was very grateful for the detailed instructions posted next to the TV (we wanted to watch the super bowl, which started shortly after check-in, so having clearly written instructions allowed me to quickly find the game). All in all, I recommend Roccos and would consider staying there again in the future.
It's wonderful to have a vrbo that allows dogs in such a fun town.
This rental is the closest short term rental to the Arkansas River in the heart of downtown Salida. Steps away from the river, boat ramp and the Salida whitewater park. The best nightlife in Salida is right outside the door. Across the street from Riverside Park and the Steamplant Theater. You can not beat this location! Walk everywhere! Mountain Bike, Moto bike, Raft, Fish, Hike,Kayak, Surf, Shop, Relax.
