The place is beautiful and all the small touches make it very special. Checking in and out was easy and the owners very responsive. We enjoyed our time there immensely!
What can I say that hasn't been said...This is the perfect cabin for our family: super clean, stocked with all the needs plus games and toys for the kids, close to town and the mountain for skiing, yet beautifully secluded. Happy to stay here again and again!
Vicki’s and Scott’s place is ideal for a family retreat. The home is situated on a large lot and beautifully nestled in nature. All you see around you are trees, mountains, and, quite often, a family of deer. Inside, everything is of top quality, with cozy heated floors, lovely bathrooms featuring high-end fixtures, a beautiful master bedroom with a well-organized walk-in closet, and a well-equipped kitchen, among other things. The tasteful decorations reflect the spirit of the local culture and the love the owners put into building and organizing this home. It was a great pleasure returning to this place after a full day of skiing.
We absolutely enjoyed our stay at this beautiful property. We loved the location because it was private and quiet, but very close to town and everything Salida has to offer. The owners have thought of every detail to make you feel at home. My favorite is the wrap around porch with the mountain view and deer that frequented the property (so many hummingbirds this time of year too!). It was quiet and absolutely perfect. Owners were kind and communication was quick and easy. We wouldn't hesitate to rent again - highly recommend.
We had such a wonderful stay. The property is well equipped and very clean. I had a series of questions leading up to our stay, and the owners were so quick at responding. We bought our 2.5yo daughter and 11 week old infant and felt very comfortable and safe the whole time, and having the pack n play provided was a nice perk! Absolutely would love to stay here again - especially when the fall colors start changing. The family of deer that live on the property were a ln added bonus too! A mama and two babies visited us every day!
This property is simply beautiful. We were able to catch the beginning of the aspen changing colors but I bet the upcoming weekend will be absolutely stunning. We really enjoyed the hummingbirds and the feeders on the large porch where we spent a majority of our time. There was a small family of deer who wandered close to the house at least once a day which was always a treat.
It is very apparent that the hosts take great care of the house. There was the right amount of communication and the check-in and check-out process was easy and clearly laid out. There were a lot of amenities that we didn't expect but were very much appreciated.
We will definitely be back
Redtail Hideaway is an exquisite retreat from the world. Nestled in a secluded valley it is a private location with ample room for a family to spread out or play together. The covered patio is amazing as are the simple, quality details of the construction and style. The beds are comfortable with clean, cozy linens and soft pillows. A variety of games for indoor and outdoor fun are available for multiple ages and the peace of the natural surroundings offered multiple deer sightings as well as redtail hawks circling and calling. This is a property worth spending time at! You might not even want to venture out on the trails. Just snuggle in and relax!
This place was just perfect for us and it had everything we could possibly need, thank you for letting us use your gorgeous home

We cannot say enough great and positive things about this CUTE cabin! From the minute we laid eyes on it, we were struck by the attention to detail and welcoming feel of this cabin. The cabin was decorated very nicely and offered everything we could possibly need during our stay. Comfortable bedding, hot showers, upscale kitchen appliances, and fabulous wrap around porch with plenty of comfortable seating and hummingbird feeders for our simple entertainment. The location was secluded, yet very convenient to Salida. I wish we could stay a year!
Great stay! Well appointed and fresh. Lots of great hiking trails near buy. Had a local doe visit us each morning. very private. The covered decks and comfy chairs were excellent for enjoying morning coffee and evening wine. We will be back.
Absolutely stunning home that offers quietude and a spectacular mountain view. Clean and comfortable. Well appointed and stocked with all essential supplies. Our only issue was we should have stayed longer! Hoping to return again soon.
The home is gorgeous, modern, very well-provisioned and thought out for visitors, and nice location for both Monarch and town. We loved our stay. Luxurious modern cabin - yes please!
We had an absolutely lovely time on this property! We wish we'd had more time to enjoy all the deck space. We found everything very comfortable and were impressed with the thoughtfulness of design, decoration, and house provisions. The "neighborhood" was so quiet, it was easy to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and stargaze. It was great to have a small trail on property! We'd certainly book again if/when we come back to the area.
I was looking for a comfortable place to spend a few weeks during the summer, a place where I could prepare my own meals I a well stocked kitchen, and be close enough to Salida and Buena Vista to take advantage of all they have to offer. The hosts were welcoming and accessible, and it was a wonderfully relaxing time for me. It was perfect!
Thanks so much- awesome home, great location 10-15 minutes from town and trailheads for hiking at Monarch and Shavano (great view from back porch)
We’d love to return soon!

About the host
Hosted by Vicki M
I am a happily transplanted New Yorker since 2000 and consider CO to be my "true" home. My husband is a native and has spent many years living, working and playing in Chaffee county. He worked ski patrol for Monarch in the 80's and 90's and held many odd jobs including photographer for a rafting company, wildland firefighter and Salida hot springs pool manager. We met each other for the first time while skiing with mutual friends at Monarch. He introduced me to telemarking and backcountry touring. Fittingly, we tied the knot at the top of tumbelina lift a few years later. We both love Colorado and everything it has to offer. We currently reside full-time outside of Colorado Springs with our lovable dog and feisty cat. We spend our free time enjoying the great outdoors.
Why they chose this property
We purchased the property several years back after falling in love with the trees and mountain views. Before building, we enjoyed our property by camping under the stars and riding bikes every weekend. The build took 2 years and was truly a labor of love that allowed us to become good friends with the neighbors who helped us build our dream home getaway. The proximity to all things amazing is why we love this property. We are minutes way from riding epic mountain biking trails (monarch crest, cottonwood to name a few), skiing, backpacking and climbing 14ers.
