About this property
“Escape” to a Waterfront Artist’s Home on Secluded Evergreen Point, Taunton Bay
This cedar and granite retreat sits on a point 25’ from the water and offers tremendous bay views, secluded canoeing/kayaking, and quick access to Acadia or Schoodic. Originally built as an artist’s hideaway on the unique protected waters of Taunton Bay, Escape is a perfect refuge for those looking to enjoy the water, explore the islands and shores, or lounge on the massive deck.
“Escape” is a modern, spacious vacation retreat with 2BR and a large loft, 3Baths and a large wraparound deck that steps down to the granite grottos of Taunton Bay. The downstairs flooring and carpeting have just been redone.
A spacious master suite offers great bay views from every window and a pink granite fireplace. The main kitchen is open and well appointed with stainless appliances and a rough granite half wall separating it from the dining and living rooms. The loft has three beds, great views and a game area for the children. A small second bedroom, with views, is situated on the main level adjacent to a bath/laundry room. Two canoes and a kayak are available for exploring the bay and the mussel bed.
The home provides WiFi, BBQ, washer/dryer and a TV/DVD.
This quiet and secluded location is perfect for relaxing on the deck or the shore and within 30 minutes drive to Acadia or Schoodic Point. Your family will love playing in the calm water on the cove, exploring the bay and the marine life around the mussel beds and, of course, listening to the loons.

About the host
Hosted by Mark McMillen

Mark spent summers as a child in Maine, helping his parents and siblings build the original cabin. During college summers he dug clams and blood worms in the area to pay much of his tuition (those were the days!). He left the east coast after college at MIT and now lives with his wife in Colorado, where the tide has been out for far too long. An avid outdoorsman and naturalist, Mark's world view remains shaped by summers at Escape.
Why they chose this property
Escape has been a formative part of our family for three generations. Parents and three kids spent early summers clearing the land, building the cabin and putting in granite walks to manicuring the blueberry bushes. The parents added on, remodeled and modernized the structure before retiring here for 20+ years. JoAnn McMillen, painted and photographed the coast here for over 40 years, most often using the bay as her subject. The third generation spent quality time in the summer with their grandparents in Maine. Revitalizing the cabin in 2015 and spending time in Maine again has allowed us to continue the tradition.
What makes this property unique
Taunton Bay is unique - period. It's calmer, warmer and more comfortable than the open waters of Frenchman's Bay. Perfect for exploring by canoe and kayak. The south and west facing deck has the perfect balance of sun, shade, breeze and protection to make afternoons incredibly relaxing. The granite grottos are smooth, comfortable and warm the water. The setting on the point allows for sunsets over the water every evening.
The sealife and wildlife in and around the bay is incredible - loons, ducks, eagles, gulls, kingfishers, herons, seals, clams, mussels, oysters, scallops, horseshoe crabs, rock crabs, lobsters, starfish, sea urchins and more are all out there waiting to be discovered.
A shellfish license (available in Ellsworth) permits you to harvest shellfish from the bay for personal consumption subject to appropriate restrictions. The mussel bed (200 yards from the cove by canoe) has mussels, razor clams and even a few oysters.
