About the host
Hosted by CJ Johnson
We’re longtime Arizona residents who love welcoming guests to Tucson. I’m originally from Houston but have lived here for more than 30 years, and my partner and co-host, Trey, grew up in Casa Grande. Tucson and this neighborhood have been home to us for decades, and we genuinely enjoy sharing everything we love about it—from its food and culture to its desert trails and hidden local spots.
We chose this home for its quiet, walkable location and its rare fully detached design with no shared walls. It’s always been a peaceful place to return to after exploring the city, working long shifts, or visiting family. We regularly improve the space and truly enjoy hearing how guests experience it.
Our hosting style is simple: clear communication, thoughtful touches, and the level of privacy you prefer. We’re nearby if needed and completely hands-off if you’d like your stay to be entirely your own.

Why they chose this property
I chose this home years ago because Tucson’s West Side felt like one of the city’s best-kept secrets. Menlo Park has always had a peaceful, welcoming energy, and this particular corner of the neighborhood offered the privacy and comfort I wanted in a long-term home. I lived here for many years before moving in with my partner, and the enclosed patio has continued to be a relaxing sanctuary for both me and our guests.
One reason guests enjoy this home so much is that it was owner-occupied before becoming a dedicated guest property. The kitchen and household items are far more complete than what you’ll typically find in a vacation rental, with real cookware, bakeware, quality knives, utensils, and small appliances that make cooking at home—and longer stays—much more comfortable.
As the Mercado District has grown, more people have discovered what longtime residents already knew: Menlo Park is one of Tucson’s best-located and most charming neighborhoods. It’s rich with historic homes, close to the Santa Cruz River Path and The Loop, and minutes from hiking and outdoor spaces. Tumamoc Hill—one of Tucson’s most iconic climbs—is a short walk away.
I’ve always loved having great local spots nearby, including longtime favorites like Tania’s 33 on Grande. Even with the growth around us, this cluster of townhomes has remained a quiet, comfortable haven. It’s hard to find a neighborhood that offers this combination of convenience, character, and outdoor access.

What makes this property unique
This home is unusually private for a townhome, with a fully detached design and no shared walls—giving guests the quiet and seclusion of a standalone house. The enclosed patio and the secure 2-car garage are completely yours during your stay, creating a private, convenient, and easy arrival experience.
Because the home was owner-occupied before becoming a dedicated guest property, the kitchen is far more complete than a typical rental. Guests appreciate the quality cookware, bakeware, utensils, small appliances, and well-stocked essentials that make longer stays and home-cooked meals much easier. The linens and bedding are also of higher quality, something guests consistently mention in reviews.
The patio is one of the home’s most memorable features—comfortable and relaxing during the day, and pure magic at night. It’s a fully walled outdoor space perfect for morning coffee, reading, or unwinding under the desert sky.
The home’s design includes two private en-suite bathrooms, a rare and highly valued feature for couples, families, friends traveling together, and medical professionals seeking comfort and privacy. Combined with its walkable location in historic Menlo Park, this home offers an experience that’s difficult to find: exceptional privacy, comfort, convenience, and thoughtful details that come from being a well-loved home.
