Very comfortable accommodations on Mt. Desert Isle for our first visit to the area! Was glad to be on the quiet side of the island and had plenty of space to spread out.
What an amazing week we had staying on the “quiet side.” The house was great and much larger than the pictures convey. Close to some amazing restaurants and great hikes. And not far drive from Bar Harbor. This was our first trip to Maine and we would love to return and would definitely stay here again.Elisabeth was in contact throughout the trip and very helpful with any questions we had.
We loved our stay! The house is more spacious than the pictures show. We loved the backyard and all of the birds and deer that came to say hello. It was a quick 30 minute drive to most places in Acadia and just a quick drive to downtown southwest harbor with nice shops and restaurants. Lobster shacks everywhere and scenic views abound. Recommend if you're interested in exploring the park but also would like to be away from the noise of bar harbor.
This house has everything you could ever want or need. I am very particular about houses I rent. This is well equipped, in good shape, in a good location, and is even bigger than the photos. The kitchen was one of the best kitchens I have experience with VRBO. I recommend this house. Large 4 bedroom house on a quiet street. Close to Seawall and Wonderland. Not too far from everywhere else on MDI and away from the crowds.
I rented this house for my family, my brother and our parents to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary! It was perfect for us. Their bedroom was on the first floor so they didn’t have to climb stairs. The house was adorable, neat, clean and we had everything. It’s conveniently located near Acadia, Bar Harbor, Bass Harbor etc. we had a wonderful long weekend getaway with our family and my parents had quality time with us and their grandchildren. We love the area and we are very familiar with it but we usually camp so this was a nice change of pace. I emailed the owner with a concern and we received a prompt reply.
We had a wonderful week with our whole family, traveling from Akron, Dayton and Chicago. It was our first time to Maine. Elisabeth was prompt with any answers to questions prior to our stay. Expectations and conditions of the contract were clear. The home felt even more spacious than the pictures.
The location was ideal!! We hiked multiple trails in Acadia, spent time in Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor for dining and exploring, and walked to the harbor and ocean path from the house.
The kitchen was well stocked for us to prepare meals at the house. We had a campfire, enjoyed lettuce and herbs from the garden, time on the deck and hammock. The only complaint, to no fault of the owner, was the strong season of mosquitoes
that limited our time outdoors.
We would absolutely return!! We strongly recommend this location.
We enjoyed our stay here and all the house had to offer including everything you need for cooking, toys and games for kids, and nice outdoor space. It was very relaxing and the location is great!
Absolutely perfect! The house is bigger than it looks. The location is perfect!!! No hustle and bustle of crowds in Bar Harbor. Yet, we could get to almost every location on the east side of the island (even inside the park) within 30 minutes! The house had everything you could need! It’s the little touches that make it special and they were all here! Thank you for a wonderful vacation!
The house was spacious and comfortable, very homey, with good beds. The kitchen was well stocked with plates and pots and pans, perfect for our family dinners. The yard was great for extra space and access to the herb garden was nice.
Our family of 8 stayed comfortably in this house. The owner had lots of recommendations on nearby places to see, including her own favorites. The house had games for the family and plenty of space, inside and out, so we didn't feel cramped. Will definitely be staying here again when we return to Maine!
This home was perfect for our family! It was immaculate, welll-appointed and had all of the comforts of home. We loved exploring in the parks but enjoyed coming back to the house even more. The kids played games in the yard, made smores, made wonderful memories playing family game night on the three season porch. There were suggestions of their favorite spots for us to easily find, and there is so much to do we would love to return. We enjoyed the wildlife and even friendly neighbors. Elisabeth was incredibly helpful and an amazing host. Thank you for this opportunity, we would love to come back!
This was my first time in Maine and it was a great weekend and experience. Elisabeth was great to deal with. The house was exactly as advertised- great size, clean, great location, etc. I would definitely recommend for anyone looking to stay in Southwest Harbor.
We loved our stay at Meadowside! Elisabeth’s home offered the perfect spot for weary hikers at the end of our day. There are so many cozy and comfortable areas in the house to relax and unwind in. We especially enjoyed sharing the backyard with the deer as they grazed right next to us. Even though it was the end of the season, we were still able to find great restaurants and coffee shops nearby. Lots of wonderful hiking trails and sightseeing just down the road. I highly recommend staying on the quiet side of MDI.
Due to a sudden change of plans we decided last minute to drive to the East Coast. We felt so lucky that the Meadowside property was available. Elisabeth was wonderful to work with and our 25th anniversary trip was certainly one worth remembering. The property was spacious and clean, just as the website described. Maine is a beautiful state and staying in Southport Harbor was well worth it!
We really enjoyed our stay. The house was clean. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking essentials.
The only thing I would say is that we were unfamiliar with the Maine grocery stores charging for bags. After we went to WalMart we discovered lots of cloth bags we could have used. Not a big problem, just something we would have used had we known.
Otherwise, excellent stay!
This was an excellent rental for a week in Acadia. The house was immaculate upon our arrival. It is very spacious and offered plenty of privacy for our group. The location was nice and central to some hikes and restaurants, but the bulk of the action is more towards bar harbor. For those looking for a quiet getaway, like us, this was the perfect rental.
Terrific quiet-side house for our family trip (including grandparents). Spacious living/dining space, lovely yard and fire pit, and an exceptionally well-stocked kitchen all made this an easy, comfortable stay. We definitely recommend!
House was amazing! Had everything you could possibly need. Southwest harbor was a great location to stay. This was our first time to Acadia. We loved having some of the lesser visited parks near us (Wonderland trail, Bass Harbor Head lighthouse). I would anticipate eating dinners at the house... the restaurants in Southwest Harbor were extremely busy and even takeout was over a 2 hour wait. The kitchen was really well stocked and the grocery store was close!
Our family loved our stay at the Meadowside Cottage! The location is an easy 30-40 drive from Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain, Jordan Pond, and all of the other amazingly beautiful sites in the area. The house had everything we needed, and my kids loved using the fire pit to roast marshmallows almost every night! Elisabeth was very friendly and available whenever needed for a quick question or two. Thanks for a great stay!
Its a nice small cottage with everything stocked. The host Elizebeth was prompt when we had hot water issues. The upstairs bathroom was like a oven with no air conditioning when the weather was hot. Overall the stay is good.
Everything about this property is wonderful! A very well-equipped kitchen, very comfy furnishings, a quiet location but still easily accessible to everything, and incredible attention to detail make this home a welcome place to return to after a day exploring the island. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a comfy home away from home.
This property was exactly as advertised and in excellent condition. It was clean, very spacious, and well appointed. We had a wonderful time on the island and would absolutely stay at this property if we returned. We were very happy with our stay. A+

About the host

We live in Colorado but enjoy summers on Mt.Desert Island (MDI) where our sons grew up sailing at the local sailing center. We love MDI for Acadia National Park, its beauty, the ocean, wildlife, and a lifestyle of simple pleasures enjoying nature and relaxation. We enjoy all that summer offers from sailing, cycling, hiking, and just living simply in a wonderful community. It is a haven we love.
Why they chose this property
Mt Desert Island (MDI) is unique among Maine destinations because of Acadia National Park. We love Southwest Harbor for its Maine small town-feel, good restaurants, MDI Community Sailing, and great community. Our home is on the 'quiet side' of MDI, but the cultural attractions of Bar Harbor are only 20 minutes away.
What makes this property unique
Meadowside Cottage offers us simple summer living where we can walk or cycle to the beach, to the Seawall, or to Southwest Harbor. Our home is on one acre with a meadow on one side and a wooded section beyond the grassy backyard. It is convenient to town, but has a rural feel, too. The Islander bus will stop at the house if you wave at the driver and it provides a free ride all over Mt Desert Island including Bar Harbor.
