About this property
Artist's Modern & Serene Home in Trendy Alberta Arts District
Situated on a bike street two blocks from the famous Alberta Street. This beautiful and spacious indoor/outdoor living space has three skylights with an open floor plan for comfortable and easy living. And the kitchen is designed for the gourmet with a steam oven and a De'Loghni coffee/espresso machine!
In the summer you'll find tomatoes, herbs, blueberries and figs in the garden for your pleasure! Enjoy eating inside or outside under the pavilion or under the fig tree!
THE SPACE The 16 foot door opens for an 8 foot opening directly to the outdoors on the north side of our house. It feels special when you are in the space. This very unique design has the main living space sunken for a real feel of the outdoors. The heated concrete floors automatically come on for comfort on cooler nights. Another favorite is the bathroom which includes a rain/massage shower head and a skylight for natural light. The automatic ventilation system comes on when you are taking a shower and the tile floor is heated. PLUS, the kitchen is fabulous! I love to cook and have all of the best kitchen appliances and tools, including a steam oven, Vitamix, Kitchen-Aid mixer and many more.
The space includes the: - entire private back yard with a fire pit, two large teak chairs with cushions, 2 teak dining chairs with arms and 4 without arms and a teak dining table under the pavilion. - main sunken room with a living space and dining space - comfortable murphy bed behind the large moving walls in the main room with a closet to hang your things - the large kitchen which includes a small open space for storing things or you can use as an office space - the modern tiled bathroom with a walk in shower, toilet and sink - The utility space, which includes a european style washer/dryer. The studios are closed off from the rest of the house and you will enter through the garden.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD Our neighborhood is fantastic with some of Portland's best restaurants, bakeries, boutique shops and festivals. Alberta Street is three blocks away for easy access to everything. To mention a few, Petite Provence to indulge in fresh pastries; Salt and Straw for the most unique ice creams; many boutique shops, foot wear shops, art galleries, and a coffee shop on every corner. On the corner of 30th and Killingsworth is a network of great restaurants! If you are here on the last Thursday of the month in the summer, Alberta street shuts out car traffic and vendors with jewelry, pottery, artworks, food carts, dancers and street musicians fill the street for the festive 'Last Thursday'. Every Sunday from May to November, one block away from our house is a farmers market between 10am to 2pm with music, local foods and seafood. OR, go west to the trendy Williams District which has many more restaurants, boutique shops and bars.
GETTING AROUND If you rented a car, there is plenty of off street parking. If not, you can walk, go by bike or bus.
BIKE-- The house is on a bike street and our city bikes are called "Biketwon". The closest bike station is 2 1/2 blocks away and there are plenty ore across the city.

Lovely home and great location. We stayed for 2.5 weeks due to a home emergency and we appreciated that the host was very accommodating to our changing schedule. Beautiful yard/garden area, and the home was bright and airy.
Very happy with our stay. It is the second time we have stayed at this location. It has a nice garden, kitchen, and artwork. It's in a quiet neighborhood but close to the Sunday farmers market and Alberta Street district, which includes the Last Thursday street fair.
Location was very convenient to all activities we chose in Portland. Neighborhood was very quiet and within walking distance to Farmers Market, local shops and restaurants.
Nice place to stay and a great location to walk to restaurants, coffee shops, etc. Peaceful and private backyard, too! I recommend this home if you're visiting Portland!

Loved the gorgeous garden! The place was in great walkable neighborhood. The place looked like it was out of a magazine. All great! Had a really nice week!
Very private and clean. The beautiful garden is not to be missed, and Karen is a very friendly and responsive host. I've stayed twice in the past year!
We had a very nice stay. The location is excellent. It is in a quiet NE neighborhood, but, within walking distance of restaurants, shopping, and a weekly farmers market. The backyard garden space is a pleasant hang-out spot.
The property is amazing in the effort to exceed your expectations of what a stay away from home should be. The garden is incredible and so peaceful. An exceptional property.

This is a beautiful property in a walkable neighborhood with any kitchen amenity you could possibly want.
Clean, bright and welcoming. Would definitely stay here again.
Exceptional artistic home in beautiful neighborhood featured a unique backyard retreat that made this our best VRBO choice in many years. A cook’s paradise! And the owner,Karen, anticipated the needs of her guests and provided many luxury items such as the fluffy bath towels. She also kept great contact to make our stay a true pleasure.

Thank you Gloria! It was a pleasure having you stay in my home. Please come back the next time you are in Portland.
We loved our stay at this property! Situated in a very nice neighborhood, this beautifully designed home was clean, spacious, and very nicely updated. It had great appliances, furnishings, and decor. The highlight was the wonderful garden, with nice seating, sun and shade, and an amazing array of plants...We could have sat out there all day, enjoying the fragrance, watching the bees hard at work, etc.! On Sunday we enjoyed the farmers' market, just a few blocks away. And the host, Karen, was great! Easy to reach, clear communications, etc. We look forward to a return visit!
This property was even better than we anticipated. As described, the kitchen was well stocked with any cooking or baking equipment that we could possibly need. The unit was spacious, and the backyard was incredible! There was a comfortable space to sit surrounded by roses and the smell of lavender and sage. There was also some very hot weather while we were in Portland with a high temp one day of 100 degrees. The unit cools down so well at night, that we didn't even need the air conditioning! I would definitely stay here again if/when I am back in Portland.

Thank you Rachel! It was great to have you stay in my home! You are welcome back anytime.
The place is beautiful. It is a secluded luxury in the arts district. Karen is very responsive, professional and accommodating while residing faraway. There are no complaints here. The place is as pictured. It was a treat to see her paintings on the walls. Her kitchen is that of a chef with its tools and appliances. I loved her espresso machine and enjoyed a delicious espresso everyday. If you are there at the right time of year you have access to the sweetest and most tasty green figs in abundance (plus tomatoes, rosemary, mint). Staying there does feel a little like a taste of France. ;-)The area is a lively and cultural area with lots to see. Art, groceries, ice cream shop and loads of restaurants are all in walking distance. Irvington Park is in walking distance and offers lots of green space. I’d definitely stay again as well as recommend highly to friends. Thank you Karen.

Thank you Meg! You as well were a great guest in which I loved hosting. Thank you for taking great care of my home as well. À bientôt !
Actually, the photos and description were inexact. I walked up the steps and opened the tall wood gate into my secret garden! I was gap mouthed! Totally secluded with privacy fence. Well, the photos do not do justice. It’s beautiful. I had a bbq in garden with family. Plenty of room and there’s not one Big Green Egg, but two! I used the small one for our six steak salads. Photos do not show windows on W wall, nor the great skylights… even in the beautiful bathroom. I never had a problem with on-street parking nor did any of my guests. The kitchen is way beyond well equipped. Best VRBO kitchen ever. The app were better than my own kitchen. You’ll gasp at the spice drawer. There’s even ziplock bags! The Murphy bed was surprisingly very comfy. The place was very well dressed. I was sad to leave…
We really enjoyed staying here. The private outdoor area was so quiet and peaceful. The house was very nice. The neighborhood was cute with places to eat within walking distance and a short drive to all other areas of the city. Check in was extremely easy. Loved it !
It was a great location and it was beautiful place.
This was a great place and the city of Portland was great. This was are fifth anniversary this year, we had great time in the city and your place. Thanks so much we would remain your to everyone.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Karen is an excellent communicator—was very helpful—especially great for us as we have never been to Portland and can’t wait to return. We loved being able to walk for a meal, to the Farmers Market etc. We will be back.
My husband and I loved our time at this property. The house was very clean, had everything we needed (WiFi, cooking equipment etc.) and the backyard space was absolutely beautiful.
Also, the location can’t be beat - it’s in a great neighborhood, in walking distance of a variety of restaurants, coffee shops and breweries, and is in biking distance of downtown. You won’t run out of things to do!
Karen was so helpful and made our stay exceptional! Would highly recommend this property.

As a writer who comes to Portland to have some alone time regularly, Karen's place has been the most beautiful I have ever stayed in. It was perfect in every sense in terms of amenities but the outdoor space is truly one of the most gorgeous I have seen. WIll be back for sure!

My stay here was exactly what I was looking for: a spacious studio in a beautiful setting. I was working remotely, and the internet access was great for this. There is a beautiful garden which provided a relaxing atmosphere. The location was nicely situated to be able to walk to the farmers market and eateries, grocery store and other venues with ease. And Karen was a wonderful host, accessible and helpful, and respectful of privacy. I couldn’t have asked for more!

About the host
Hosted by Owner/Property Manager
Greetings!
I'm an artist and chef in Portland Oregon and Provence France. While I'm in France, I invite you to stay in my beautiful home three blocks from Alberta Street. Also, every Sunday enjoy the Farmer's Market two blocks from my house!
There are plenty of restaurants, coffee shops and boutique shopping on Alberta Street as well as the new trendy Williams District only 10 blocks from my house. Portland is an amazing place with many top chefs, fantastic wines from the Willamette Valley, breweries and distilleries. Plus you have nature at your doorstep with the Columbia Gorge, Mount Hood, and the Pacific Ocean an hours drive west. I will leave information about where to go and what to do. Plus, you can cook in my fantastic kitchen and enjoy sitting under the fig tree.
Why they chose this property
My property is special because it's a modern clean space in a 1911 craftsman house. Plus, it has a large yard with many flowers, fruits and a vegetable garden.
What makes this property unique
This property is unique because of the oversized glass doors opening into the garden. It is an indoor/outdoor living space. The design of the home is unique with the large wall doors moving in which there is a hidden murphy bed. The space is simple, yet sophisticated.
