The Superb host of this quaint, comfortable, two-story gem was friendly and accessible. We enjoyed our visit to the Raystown Lake region, slept well and visited diverse eateries in the area Cupboards and linen supplies were well-stocked, and the home was as pictured and described.
The A/C felt wonderful during a hot holiday weekend! Groceries will close by - the kitchen well-stocked with things to cook and serve home meals. The decor was charming and the little surprises of hidden 'treats' in drawers and bins was whimsical. We took in Lincoln Caverns & the Raystown Lake beach and also enjoyed hanging out in the Adirondack chairs in the side yard.
This property is immaculate, tidy, full of extra amenities, cozy and comfortable! And they take pets if needed. Loved sipping my morning tea on the front porch! Thank you for making it so easy and comfortable! Coming back!
This is a perfect place for a multigenerational family stay! I booked this for my son’s graduation from Penn State and stayed with my father and 23 year old son. This is a great option when all the hotels in State College are booked up and Penn State is a lovely 45 minute drive away. My father stayed on the first floor next to the bathroom and we were very comfortable in the bedrooms upstairs. The house is very clean and full of charming touches that appealed to everyone. My son gobbled up the snacks, my father appreciated the historical decorations and I loved the cheerful strawberry theme in the kitchen. My father and I had a wonderful experience enjoying our morning coffee on the front porch and talking away about life, prompted by the decorations in the house. It truly was a highlight of a momentous weekend. We didn’t get to stay very long because of all the graduation activities but we would definitely come back again to explore the area and relax!
We felt very blessed to find a home for about the same cost as two rooms at a hotel at short notice as we needed to attend a funeral. The cottage is absolutely lovely, and we felt so welcome. Shelly and her sister have made it so cozy. We had a basket full of goodies, condiments, ice packs, coffee, tea, sugar, available for use. They even provided bags to clean up after the dog. (I have difficulty with my hands, and these bags were so easy to open too.) The kitchen was more fully equipped than any other place we have ever rented through VRBO or otherwise. We loved the tiny details that connected the cottage to their family and the area. Their signage around the cottage was also detailed and welcoming. It was fun to see the guest record too. It reminded me of the one my aunt keeps in her hunting/fishing cabin.Shelly was so accommodating in allowing us extra time for a late checkout. That was one of the deciding factors in our stay. I could not have been more pleased to find such a nice place to stay for our large group and dog at short notice. The shower had a grab bar, and the cottage also has a first floor bedroom. Perfect for our elder member who has some mobility challenges.Thank you so much.

About the host

My sister and I cherish the lovely memories we made visiting our Dad's hometown, Huntingdon, when we were kids. We wanted to create a special place of our own to keep his memory alive and to spend time with the family that still lives there. We truly hope you enjoy this historic town as much as we do! Some of our favorite things to do during our visits include thrifting (my sister is absolutely the thrifting queen!), shopping in nearby Altoona and State College (Go Penn State!), exploring the beautiful countryside (convenient to the Raystown Lake area), and visiting the local breweries, wineries, and distilleries. Enjoy your time here!
Why they chose this property
This cottage won our hearts the moment we stepped inside! Though it isn't the oldest home in town, it beautifully combines vintage charm with a delightful outdoor space, all while being conveniently located near downtown Huntingdon, Raystown Lake, and State College. And if you’re up for a little exercise, you can easily walk to Juniata—just don’t forget about those hills!
What makes this property unique
The cottage is nestled in the Highlands East area of Huntingdon, offering stunning views of the town below. If you get the chance, take a stroll up the hill and enjoy the breathtaking architecture of the homes perched on the ridge. This area is affectionately called the “Land of 1,000 Hills” for a good reason! We also steered clear of anything "generic" when decorating, so we really hope you love the historic touches of this charming cottage as much as we do!
