About this property

Nature Lover's Dream Home - Lake Views, Docks, Slopes & Trails!

The three spacious, private bedrooms have a queen, a queen, and twin beds and full closet for your luggage. The biggest bedroom also includes a queen sized futon, couch style, suitable for a single person. The large bathroom features a walk-in shower that measures 40x60" for plenty of elbow room. The kitchen shines with stainless appliances and modern comforts. Plus we provide lots of extras to add to the fun of hanging out, such as a coffee pot (we provide the coffee), a waffle maker, a crockpot, and a blender - for berry smoothies or adult beverages. There is grilling available for outdoor meals. We provide either paper plates or classy dishes, depending on how you want to dine for each meal.
A large attached porch is perfect for snowmobilers to unpack their gear and for bicyclers to safely store their bikes. Snowmobile trail #133 runs into our driveway. If 4-wheeling in your thing, there is plenty of room to keep trailers and gear on site. Mount Bohemia is just down the road.
We are situated at the official trail head for the 4 wheel trails and for the snowmobile trails. The grounds at Dockside include fire pits, large and small. Fishing, swimming, and sun-bathing are encouraged.
On the grounds, we have a stage for hosting musical acts. Plus we have a cabana that is wired with a refrigerator and roasting ovens for serving food and drinks to larger groups. Let us know if you plan to have an event of your own while you are with us. Weddings, reunions, and picnics. If you have any questions about what is included please feel free to send an email.

We are the third generation to live and work on the property outside of Gay. Our grandfather began here as a commercial fishing operation. Now it is a recreation area that caters to those who enjoy lakes and nature. On the west side are campsite for up to 7 hook-ups. The east side has the rustic-luxe vacation homes. We have four vacation houses completely renovated.
We have worked, played, swam, and rested on these docks and this land since our earliest memories. The boys in the family went fishing for lake trout and whitefish, on Lake Superior with our Dad. The girls climbed on net reels and picked the berries. Bob, the on-site co- host, lives by the docks at this time and Sherry, the sister who is also a co-host, has a place in Hancock. The Kauppi family has been in the hospitality business for 3 generations as well. They owned and operated the Pilot House Resort, and the Isle Royale Ferry Service and later they built and ran the King Copper Motel, all in Copper Harbor.
The Dockside Resort is on the shores of the Keweenaw Peninsula. Snowmobiling trails and ATV trails run right to our driveway.
Mount Bohemia is just 19 miles away, in Lac La Belle. Our location makes it ideal to create an all season resort for tourists, boaters, campers, skiers and sledders.

Why they chose this property

The uniqueness of Dockside Resort is the location on the shore, and on Keweenaw trail systems. You can see twenty five miles across Lake Superior from our place. The Huron Mountains sir on the other side of the Keweenaw Bay.
We are somewhat protected from the west winds, so it is often extra friendly for boating and water sports. The shoreline is sandstone with sections of clean white sand. Plus toward the town of Gay, there are sections of black sand left over from the former mill and mining activities in the area. On the other hand, when the wind blows in a storm from the east, we can enjoy watching some fabulous waves crashing as the water pounds on the breakwall. Our Facebook page highlights some pictures from those times. Nature creates dramatic photo opps for us in all seasons and in all weather.

What makes this property unique

Our new vacation homes also have a great story. In their former life, they provided housing for the Air Force personnel and their families at an air base near Gratiot Lake. The houses were moved to the site in Gay and some are being renovated with love and care. They are great for groups and families who want to enjoy nature's rugged beauty. Lake Superior is in all her glory.
We offer modern comforts and all the amenities of a well maintained kitchen, for meal prep options. We envision that our houses will be suitable for wedding parties, reunions, hang out vacations, as well as couple's getaways.
Also we folks who moved away and now return to enjoy the Keweenaw and the Copper Country again. Folks come together to revisit their old stomping grounds and family stories.
