About the host
Hosted by Michael Y Adkins
Polly and I first met years ago in North Carolina, but life took us in different directions. It wasn’t until our 60s that we found our way back to each other, rekindling a love that had quietly stood the test of time.
Though we’ve only been married for nearly six years, our story began 45 years ago. Now, with this five-acre property, we’ve built more than just a home—we’ve created a place where we can embrace the years ahead, growing old together in a setting that reflects both our journey and our dreams.
But more than that, we want to share this experience with others. Our charming red-roof cabin in the western North Carolina mountains is a true escape—where the countryside is alive with roaming deer, turkeys, foxes, skunks, and even beavers. It’s a place where nature thrives, where mornings begin with the rustle of leaves and wildlife, and evenings end under a blanket of stars. Whether guests seek solitude, adventure, or simply a break from the everyday, the cabin offers a haven where they can reconnect with nature and slow down to enjoy life’s simple, beautiful moments.

Why they chose this property
We chose five acres of raw land to create something truly special—a place that balances personal dreams with practical opportunity. The French country cottage up the hill is the heart of that dream, a reflection of timeless elegance and peaceful living. But beyond that, we saw the potential to craft an experience for others, which is where the short-term rental cabin comes in.
In today’s fast-paced world, people seek escapes—places where they can step away from the noise and reconnect with nature. The red roof cabin offers just that: a secluded retreat tucked into a landscape untouched by the rush of modern life. Whether it’s couples looking for a romantic getaway, adventurers craving solitude, or families wanting to make memories in the outdoors, the cabin invites them in.
Owning raw land gives us the freedom to shape it exactly as we envisioned—not constrained by prior developments but molded by our own ideas. It’s not just a property; it’s a purposeful investment—a place where dreams take root, where guests can unwind, and where every tree, breeze, and sunrises add to the story.

What makes this property unique
The Red Roof Cabin is more than just a retreat—it’s a sanctuary nestled on five acres of pure tranquility. Sitting down the hill from a French country cottage, it offers a distinct charm of its own: a peaceful escape, woven into the natural landscape.
Built to embrace its surroundings, the cabin feels like an organic extension of the land—where towering trees provide shelter, and the rolling terrain invites quiet exploration. Whether it’s the scent of fresh pine that fills the air or the way sunlight filters through the windows in the morning, every detail enhances the experience of being truly immersed in nature.
Yet, the cabin is not just about seclusion—it’s about connection. Connection to simpler living, to evenings spent embracing the solitude, to unhurried mornings with a cup of coffee on the porch, watching the wildlife stir. The Red roof cabin stands as a counterpoint to the ambience of the cottage, offering a rugged yet refined balance—a place where comfort meets the untamed beauty of the outdoors.
