About this property
Luxurious Victorian Cottage in Historic Gold Country Town
The Two Room Inn is your own charming Victorian cottage in the heart of Nevada City, a beautiful, historically preserved gold rush era town in the Sierra foothills. Step back in time ....just two and half hours from San Francisco.
This beautiful, unique home was built in 1880 as a miner's cabin. Around the turn of the last century it was converted into a residence. At some time in its history it was a rectory and then late in the 20th century it was renovated yet again, took on its present 'castle' look, and was known as the Teddy Bear Castle due to the owners' large collection of antique teddy bears which were also the basis of the American Victorian Museum at the Miners Foundry in the 1980's. Lovingly restored to its present Victorian splendor and completed updated in 2004, it is now a perfect little Gothic Victorian gem from which to explore all that Nevada City and the environs have to offer. Walk out your front door, through the garden, and out the front gate, and you will find yourself in an amazing Victorian town, with beautiful historic homes, cafes, shops, galleries, wineries, and restaurants to suit every taste, all within a few blocks of your own beautiful cottage. Stroll around town and enjoy the ambiance, the art ( Nevada City has long been a haven for artists), the shops, and the mountain scenery. Stop for a coffee, breakfast or lunch maybe right across the street at the Broad Street Cafe, a snack at one of the yoghurt or ice cream shops, have lunch or dinner in one of the wonderful eateries in town, or come back to your own charming place and cook dinner at home. A short drive will bring you to the wonders of the Sierra foothills and the gold rush era. Beautiful scenery, pristine forests, river crossings with amazing swimming spots, hiking trails, and historic gold mining towns, some still with residents, some with only the local ghosts roaming the streets.
Spring, summer, and fall are gorgeous for outdoor activities. The fall foliage is magnificent, and winter brings its own charms. Nevada City's famous Victorian Christmas celebrated throughout the month of December, draws visitors from all over. And the occasional snowfall blankets the town and countryside in white. Skiing is only an hour or so away, up Interstate 80 towards Truckee. If you want a more temperate climate to stay in and not have to go too far to ski, Nevada City is the perfect spot. If golf is your passion, there are three championship golf courses in Grass Valley and Auburn, just a short drive from the Inn.
Nevada City, and it's close neighbor, Grass Valley, another vibrant historic town, host a wide variety of cultural activities all year long. There are music and art festivals, fairs, the Nevada City Fourth of July Parade, and the famous Nevada City Bike Race held in downtown Nevada City each year on Father's Day. The North Columbia Story Telling Festival, also held every year, has gained wide notoriety and draws folks from all over to hear some of the country's best storytellers. North Columbia, just a short drive from Nevada City, is a former gold rush town, now just a crossroads with the old two room schoolhouse converted to a community center as the venue for the festival. Check the local chamber of commerce web site for the schedules of all the events in the area.
Whether you come for two or three days or a week or more, you will never lack for things to do, and you will always have your beautiful Victorian cottage to come home to. The cottage is fully equipped with all modern amenities, updated and modernized bathrooms and a full modern kitchen, heat and air conditioning, flat screen TV, WiFi, gas grill, washer/dryer, and two off-street parking spaces. But it also has all original stained glass windows imported from England, gorgeous redwood and elm interior, a fireplace built with cobblestones from Old San Francisco, a front deck surrounded by gardens, a private back yard, and a lovely balcony off the bedroom upstairs, with views down Broad Street - the perfect spot from which to watch the 4th of July parade, the Father's Day bike race, or just the comings and goings of Nevada City. The house is situated at the very edge of the commercial district, and so in the quiet part of town, but steps away from anything you might want to do in the village itself.
Come experience the unique charms of this lovely home and its wonderful surroundings.
We also have a special, mid-week (Sunday to Thursday) one night rate for two people, of $300, inclusive of everything. Please contact the owner to book this special rate.
***Please note - Cancellation policy includes a full refund if the house can be rented to another party.

I have owned vacation rental properties in Hanalei and Princeville on the island of Kauai since 2000 (see my VRBO listing 10087 for Maluhia Hanalei)and so have years of experience creating wonderful places for travelers to stay, and providing them with all the amenities and special touches that help to create a memorable vacation.
Why they chose this property
I have always loved visiting Nevada City and spending time both in town and in the beautiful natural surroundings of the Sierra foothills. And for many years I have been aware of this gorgeous little Victorian cottage in the heart of this very special town. When I recently had the opportunity to buy it, I did not hesitate for a moment. I knew that not only would I love being able to stay here myself, but that I could make it available to travelers from all over, and allow others to experience this unique home in this wonderful setting.
